It seems a great idea to give work over the summer to prepare for 6th form. I'm wishing dd had done an induction as it would have given her a bit of focus. Or at least something to avoid doing. We are only a week in and I can already feel her starting to drift.

marmiteloversunite · 02/07/2016 22:02

My DD came home from induction with an English reading list, a maths book which helps them towards a level and some psychology questions to think about. She was quite pleased to have something to do.

ExitPursuedByABear · 02/07/2016 22:04

I was wondering if i should email college for a reading list.

Care to share?

marmiteloversunite · 03/07/2016 07:10

Othello
A street car named desire
The yellow wallpaper
Frankenstein
A handmaids tale
Christina Rossetti poetry

I think it is up to the school which texts they study, but this is our list.

DS came home from his induction with nothing to do (I frisked his bag looking for my pen). I'm fine with that because it has been a long slog since November. The college is not even the teensiest bit selective and I imagine that will be a lot of changing subjects after the results come out and people fins that they've bombed X or done really well at Y. He doesn't have to choose his subjects until the day that he enrolls and they are flexible for a month or so after that.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 03/07/2016 11:48

Gosh, I won't be expecting DS2 to do any work before September. It really would be very hard to convince him to do anything. Horses for courses, though! Grin Reading never seemed like work to me.

TheDrsDocMartens · 03/07/2016 13:13

Dd1 is doing 3 Alevels. She's an A/A* student. Only doing 4 if it's certain choices, creative writing & further maths I know for sure. Will be doing EPQ though.
She knows the films/books for French & German but that's it for now.

Icouldbeknitting · 03/07/2016 14:07

I have had a half hour looking at A level specifications, as you do on a Sunday afternoon when you're trying to avoid the housework. DS will be doing two reformed A levels and one unreformed and he's asking to start another unreformed one and drop it after AS. The college exam timetable is on line and it has the exam codes on it so I know what exam boards they use.

I can't drag it out any longer - back to the ironing for me.

I am not making my DD study. Grin
She just seems so programmed to be doing something that she enjoys doing it. It is going to be a long summer break so she will have lots of time to relax too.

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/07/2016 07:09

I suggested to dd that she emailed college for a reading list and she took the suggestion well.

She is not a natural reader so I just feel it would be useful to keep things ticking over.

HesMyLobster · 04/07/2016 07:50

It's dd's 6th form induction day today. She's hoping to be given reading lists etc.
By the end of last week she was so bored that she signed up to an online sign language course and completed it in a day!
Free time definitely doesn't suit her.
No idea where she gets it from - I would be happily on my 3rd box set by now . . . Grin

DD is off on the National Citizenship Service trip today. So pleased she signed up to it, she'll have a great time and will keep her busy.

For anyone interested, they were still looking for people to sign up for it as off yesterday (expect drop outs) and they are two more waves (one starting next week I think and then two in Aug) so not too late to consider.

sn0wdr0p4 · 04/07/2016 21:16

It's been a busy few days here. On Thursday morning I went to DD's leavers assembly which was quite emotional. In the evening she had her Prom where she was the proud recipient of the "Away with the fairies" award! The after prom party ,which had been of and on all week, turned into a sleepover for about fifteen of her friends.
On Friday , after having had very little sleep the night before, she went on the Camping and Caravaning Club Youth Rally for the weekend. She arrived home yesterday, had a bath, went straight to bed and slept for twelve hours. Today was her Sixth Form taster day.

littledrummergirl · 04/07/2016 21:52

Ds1 went to his ncs trip today. Am I allowed to admit that I miss him. Sad I know it's a fantastic opportunity and he will have a great time but I can't wait to have my baby home.

Must remember to feed his animals. Grin

FantasyAndHope · 04/07/2016 22:00

It's DDs prom tomorrow she's had her nails done and there amazing

ExitPursuedByABear · 04/07/2016 22:08

Dd had her nails done a week last Saturday for Prom. They are still on. When you want to keep them they break ( memories of naples and New York) and when you don't need them they won't go. She has worked, ridden, cleaned the bath, and the nails are still there. Grin

FantasyAndHope · 04/07/2016 22:19

exit
DDs nails are naturally long so it's a tiny extension but I love them myself

swingofthings · 05/07/2016 17:26

ha ha littledrummergirl, I haven't really noticed that DD has left yet! She's just texted me to say she is having a blast and is even going to send me pictures, that will be a first! Where is your DS?

FantasyAndHope · 06/07/2016 15:33

It was DDs prom yesterday! It was ruined by the girls

ExitPursuedByABear · 06/07/2016 16:32

Oh dear. What happened?

marmiteloversunite · 06/07/2016 16:45

Oh no Fantasy after all of the anticipation. I am really sorry to hear that. Hope your DD is ok.

Icouldbeknitting · 06/07/2016 17:03

I'm sorry Fantasy, it's supposed to end the year on a high point not to be a let down.

FantasyAndHope · 06/07/2016 20:09

Usual bitchy girls being mean dd ignored comments and had fun with her friends

marmiteloversunite · 06/07/2016 20:48

That's so annoying and upsetting for her Fantasy. You'd think they would just all be happy to get to the end of the exams and be having fun with their own friends. Glad your DD had friends around her.
