The thread that got us all through the exams is now full so here's a new one to get us through the nervous wait for results

Well done to all our brave Y11s and wish every last one of them all the best

I'm so sorry to hear that Fantasy. Sad

Swing- he's somewhere in the forest of Dean, what about your Dd?

I haven't heard anything since we dropped him off-no texts, no Facebook, emails etc. He had instruction to take lots of photos but as he had the same for his prom and took about 3 I'm not expecting many! Hmm
I just hope he's having a good time.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/07/2016 22:59

I'm on holiday with my DD in France. Just the two of us. Post GCSE treat. We are having the loveliest time Grin

DS at prom tonight.
Last time I ever have to see his head of year.
Phew.

ShanghaiDiva · 07/07/2016 01:46

BOOP - post GCSE holiday sounds lovely.
Fantasy - glad your daughter just ignored the comments and had fun with her friends.
Going away on Saturday - yay!

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/07/2016 07:03

Dds school have no involvement in prom. At all.

TaIkinPeace · 07/07/2016 09:17

exit
our schools do because the logistics of booking a venue for over 400 people are outside the finances of most parents

the schools also divvy up the venues and dates to reduce clashes - there are only so many venues that can cope.

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/07/2016 11:01

400 people Shock From one school?

EllenJanethickerknickers · 07/07/2016 15:41

All the schools around here organise the Y11 proms. There are 250 in DS2's year group. They tend to use the threat of not being allowed to go to the prom to guarantee behaviour in the last few weeks of school when some students get a bit laissez faire and jaded.

TaIkinPeace · 07/07/2016 16:03

exit
310 kids plus tutors plus teachers - yup,easily 400
and like Ellen Prom tickets are handed out only to those who have paid all their bills, returned all their books and have no disciplinary record to carry forwards.

DD2 6th does not have a prom as there are 2000 per year group there Smile

ExitPursuedByABear · 07/07/2016 16:04

There were only about 75 in DD's year and about 65 went to prom so not too hard to organise. I just find it a bit sad that school essentially did nothing for the end of term. No leavers' assembly, nothing.

I am still waiting for a reply from the bursar to my query about when my last monthly payment will be. Maybe I will just cancel the Direct Debit. Then they will have to get in touch.

swingofthings · 07/07/2016 18:33

Swing- he's somewhere in the forest of Dean, what about your Dd?
I like the 'somewhere' :) DD is somewhere on the Isle of Wight! I got a very brief email an even briefer texts and somehow a couple of pictures, but that's because I gave her a lecture first and she is quite an obedient girl!

Lovely idea BOOP, where are you in France?

DD's prom is tomorrow. She will be coming back from the coach and have about -30mns to get ready to get to the venue on time. Thankfully, her getting ready takes about 5 minutes! I will probably even fight with her to put just a bit of mascara on her eyes. She is looking forward to it, but more the part of being with her all her friends one last time than the dressing up part.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 07/07/2016 21:39

I want to be on holiday in France instead of at work. Sad

TaIkinPeace · 07/07/2016 21:47

we cannot go on holiday till after the end of Term as DH is still working

6.15 alarm for the 6th form taster day tomorrow Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 07/07/2016 22:16

Sorry Ellen. We are home tomorrow if that helps

DS is gaming, gaming and..... gaming. I'm leaving him to it...... for now!

TheDrsDocMartens · 08/07/2016 07:11

We've had leavers assembly this week. Dd1 didn't go to prom. I'm stalking her friends on FB to see the picturesBlush she's had little interest in it though.

Last concert of the year this week too and she's off on band tour next week.

ShanghaiDiva · 08/07/2016 09:56

DS's last day of school today. Mixed emotions as he has been there for 8 years, but looking forward to new school with better sporting facilities.
Going away tomorrow - Vietnam here we come, hopefully getting out of China before typhoon Nepartak hits the mainland.

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/07/2016 10:17

Shanghai hope your DS had a good last day.

DS1 left yesterday for a ten day school trip abroad. When he comes back, he'll be off to Wales for a few days to visit grandparents, then volunteering at a church holiday club, then we're off on our family holiday.

That takes us to the second week of August. I initially thought that results day seemed an age away, but I think the time will pass quite quickly, at least until mid-August.

Icouldbeknitting · 09/07/2016 11:13

TheSecond I've also been surprised at how quickly the weeks are passing. We have one week at home, two weeks away and then it will be August. I had so much planned, the weeks seemed endless but now they are starting to fly past. I had a phone call yesterday from someone who works with a local charity who was hoping for some free teen labour over the summer except that DS is already booked to be helping someone else until August. He plays in a brass band so weekends are always busy, if I could have cloned him I could have had him playing in three places this afternoon.

This is my excuse for not having sorted out the Lego mountain yet. I am rapidly formulating Plan B where I pack it in boxes, stick it in the loft and deal with it when he's left for University.

dowhatnow · 09/07/2016 12:06

I lost the last thread for some reason. Nice to catch up with you all and lovely hearing about all the proms. We've also had the fancy dress leavers morning and DD looked gorgeous in her prom dress. She never wears make up normally and I was amazed how well she did it. A couple of people even asked if she'd had it done professionally.

Will love to join the thread for the next couple of years.

bit Hope you've had a lovely holiday. Hopefully the rest of us still have some to look forward to.

I've only managed to get to episode 9 of OITNB. Shame on me. DD finished it over the first weekend.

littledrummergirl · 09/07/2016 13:55

Hooray ds1 came home yesterday. He has had a fantastic time and can't wait to go away again on Monday. Such a relief.
Dd had her taster day at secondary school yesterday Shock and loved it so we have good feelings here at the moment.

I even did a 5km mud run today in under an hour which was brilliant. My team were amazing and kept me going. Ds1 was photographer for the day and was so tired he slept in the car on the way home!

BitOutOfPractice · 09/07/2016 14:12

We are back after the loveliest time together. Nice to catch up with all your news

Great news drummergirl. DD also had a great time. Unfortunately, the activities involved were very physical and left her with horrible dark, unsightly bruises all other her legs and arms (on very white skin!), not good when you have a sleeveless short dress! She only had 1/2 hour to get ready, so was all a rush and she was exhausted from her week. Thankfully, she isn't self-absorbed about her looks, so didn't care that much. She did have a good time, but was happy to be home by 10:30. I manage to coerce her and take one picture, but I'm not allowed to share!

Well done for your run drummergirl!
