I thought I would start this tradition once again while we all wait? DS only sat Trinity...

Sorry burntoutdad forgot to say we didn't apply for a scholarship of any sort. DS just hasn't specialized too much we considered it for Art/DT and choir but in the end thought he's too much an all-rounder. If he does develop in those areas we'll revisit if he gets into the school.

kimalima · 18/01/2013 16:44

Just back from interview.
DS seems happy enough.
I'm not sure - my time with the interviewer was hard going. I found that person difficult to talk to and not very forthcoming.
Lovely dad of a child at the school really put me at ease in the waiting area.
Definitely think selected interviewer was chosen on DS weakest area - he was given a comprehension to discuss.

Now we just wait.

I rang T as still not heard and DS Scholarship tests due Tuesday if going ahead. T left me a vm whilst at W to say he will be called for interview but no date yet. They have got a little behind due to weather.

Don't give up hope everyone...

burntoutdad · 18/01/2013 17:14

kima - when you say to discuss, was he actually asked to do it in the interview or just to talk around any answers?

kimalima · 18/01/2013 17:18

He had to read some text and then asked about it.

hardboiled · 18/01/2013 17:53

So now the wait till the 15th JohnnyT and Kimalima! Could it be that Johnny was the nice dad that put Kimalima at ease?

Still nothing here Sad. I would hope that if its an outright rejection they will let us know sooner rather than later...

But a big well done to everyone who had interviews today - and yay! kima for T as well! Fingers crossed for the 15th now!

Inneedofwine · 18/01/2013 18:24

Hi all. I've read the Trinity/Whitgift threads with bated breath for the last couple of years Smile. Can't believe I'm finally going through it myself. DS sat Trinity 10+ although it was quite a last minute decision to do it for the 'experience'. We haven't heard anything yet either.

I have heard of one 10+ boy who got an interview at Whitgift (during which he was told he had one of the highest English scores)but who got a rejection letter from T today.

kimalima · 18/01/2013 18:27

The dad was a member of the PTA I think. He was definitely drafted in to help and his son was assisting parents and boys to the correct interview area.

PopcornPizza · 18/01/2013 18:48

DS came out smiling after both T and W interviews, they were friendly and wanted the boys to do their best. A bit of maths and comprehension at T, discussion about what clubs he might want to do at W, a lot of general chitchat at both. Now sitting at home with glass of red Smile Good luck to all still waiting to hear, hope the good news comes soon.

hardboiled · 18/01/2013 18:57

Great popcorn. I was not expecting maths and comprehension at T, DS just had an interview at another school where the exam was much harder and the interview was really just a chat! It's good to know what we might expect next week.

It's also interesting what ineedfowine says, a boy with one of the highest scores in English at one school gets a rejection letter from another, which just goes to show how much the outcome depends on luck, the way they feel that day, etc...

Fatalflower, Kima was told not all the letters are out yet.

Hi everyone, been reading all the posts with a knot in my stomach. My DS sat Whitgift and Trinity 10+. Just had call for interview for next Sat at Trinity. So relieved as our 1st choice. Don't hold out much hope at Whitgift as yr 4 report poor re attitude. Will need significant bursary so long shot all round!

Ladymuck · 18/01/2013 19:48

Good luck to all. Apparently one parent turned up to Whitgift yesterday for interview without their son.... And yes, so much is down to the day. We know of some who got scholarships for 1 and not even an interview for the other.

Inneedofwine · 18/01/2013 20:12

Hi Ladymuck. That's so funny. I can see the attraction of doing the interview in son's place though!

Good luck with the interview/bursury suz742. Did they call you this evening then?? Wonder if they'll be doing calls tomorrow...

stuckinconcrete · 18/01/2013 20:14

We were taken to room 101 (joking) for our interview today at Whitgift by a lovely trumpet playing boy. He made ade us want to come all the more!! Interview was standard stuff - what books do you like, why do you want to come to Whitgift etc. Now we wait again...

suz742 · 18/01/2013 20:23

The Trinity lady said she had taken the work home because of the bad weather and as they are interviewing at weekends I wouldn't be surprised if they are working around the clock to manage it all. She said they would follow up the call with an email. Good luck, anxious times

suz742 · 18/01/2013 20:25

Yes, call at 7pm, caught me off guard!

stresscity · 18/01/2013 21:26

Seeline-sort that four leaf cover out for us all will you, and hurry up about it! Lol thanks somelikeithot, good luck to your ds for W on Tuesday!! Soup and Seeline, are either of you aware of any boys that started year 7 sep last year who are leaving?

Kylep · 19/01/2013 11:47

Phone call from trinity this morning :-)) so for all the mums/dads that haven't heard they are still calling fingers crossed for all

hardboiled · 19/01/2013 12:07

Suz and Kylep, well done to your DS.
They are calling Sat morning! They must be well aware of the anxiety of parents.

Kylep · 19/01/2013 12:15

Thanks hardboiled now just the interview !!! and what to take for trinity

hardboiled · 19/01/2013 12:17

Something that reflects a big passion of his? Something he has done? Something that carries a really good story/anecdote to talk about?

Soup, Seeline, what's your experience re what to take to T?

OP posts:
stresscity · 19/01/2013 12:34

Oh we'll done kylep and suz!! It's a relief isn't it. Not ashamed to say we had a boo! However, we got as far as doing interview last year and didn't make it hence another go this year. We believe his let down was his English hence the interview was very much English orientated and conducted by an English teacher. Very little other chit chat however ds did take in a footie trophies and spent 30 seconds talking about that. Interview over in 15 mins. Hope that helps.

Inneedofwine · 19/01/2013 12:37

Congrats Kylep. We got a letter this morning so I was immediately thinking the worst but it turned out to be an invitation for DS to go for sports scholarship assessment on Tuesday. Still haven't heard whether he actually passed but I suppose he must have?? Confused

Inneedofwine · 19/01/2013 12:43

Do they interview everyone then Stress? I thought that if you had an interview you'd get a place. Obviously not:( Well best of luck this time round.

Kylep · 19/01/2013 14:14

Indeedofwine that's great he defo passed the exam so good luck for Tuesday, only if my ds thinks he's made it but brought him back to reality !!! U still need to do well in interview I think that might let him down :-(((
