Hello all! Lots of good news again today.

Burntoutdad, what a relief it must be for you , well done to your DS. Getashley fab news! and JohnnyT, fingers well crossed for tomorrow & to other DSs for tomorrow.

Great news Zato, keep the PMA going.

Everyone else expecting good news.... Fingers crossed.

I wonder if the sports assessments will have to be indoors with the weather forecast! They must be used to weather like this when they have these assessments.

FatalFlowerGarden · 17/01/2013 18:34

Just got home... still nothing. Feeling more deflated by the day. Guess this year just isn't ds's.

kimalima · 17/01/2013 18:56

Fatalflowergarden... Don't stress (I know how hard it is) but there are lots of us still waiting. Honestly I know a boy last year who didn't hear for two weeks and got offered a great scholarship. Keep smiling Grin

Trashpack · 17/01/2013 18:57

fatalflower you mustn't worry. We haven't heard anything either.
I took the brave step of phoning the admissions dept earlier. I was told that there are still letters going out everyday and interviews being carried out until the 30th.
So hang in there, I know exactly what you're going through.

FatalFlowerGarden · 17/01/2013 19:21

Ahhh, thankyou trashpack and kima - I know, just let my pessimism get the better of me for a moment Grin Thanks for your encouragement, it does help to know there are others out there! V good to hear that letters are still going out... I guess the exam was only a week ago after all!

Poor dp hasn't heard either - the gin is getting opened tonight I can tell you - hopefully by next week it'll be champagne!

burntoutdad · 17/01/2013 21:24

Thank you Somelikeithott big relief. Although now different set of doubts creeping in Hmm. Does the fact that DS has a sports test mean that he has done well enough to be considered for scholarship, or is he border line but they want to see his sporting ability before deciding!!! And there was I thinking the worrying was over.
Fatal - You seem to have a lot going on. I know how it feels waiting after the last few days. Its early days yet hang in there sure you will get some good news soon.
Save the gin for later, you don't want to go to interview smelling of booze Grin

stresscity · 17/01/2013 21:51

HI ALL. I'm back from last year and so lad I've found this thread! Well done for re-starting. Also hello soupy and seeline. Glad your boys are getting on well. Our DS sat 12+ T last week ( yep, 12+, you read correctly) and we got a call that sports scholarships for11+ are on Monday next week with recalls following Monday. We too had thought it was all over until we received a call this afternoon. Don't give up hope. Well done to those who have also had the thumbs up. I feel copious amounts of wine on The asda delivery again this week!! Any other watchers ds sat 12+?

Somelikeithott · 17/01/2013 22:46

Welcome stresscity. I read your posts from last year, a while ago, with admiration. I was hoping you would join us at some point. Welcome back and I wish all our DSs the very best in their interviews and look forward to the good news to follow.

Fatalflower, as PPs have said hang on in there, I am keeping everything crossed for you and others awaiting news on interviews. Easier said..... I know!

burntoutdad · 17/01/2013 23:24

Hi Stresscity 10 + on Monday too.. What do you mean when you say 'recalls'? Are there two rounds of sports test?

burntoutdad · 17/01/2013 23:25

Sorry I didn't read the 'T' meant 10+ at 'W' on Mon

LIZS · 18/01/2013 08:16

At least one of the 11+ music scholar candidates applying for dc's school is also applying to W. He attended an ensemble as a taster only to find the peri who takes it is also on the W assessment panel !

Marni23 · 18/01/2013 08:20

Morning all. Really happy for those of you who have had good news so far and hope today brings the same for those of you who have yet to hear.

Fatal gin you say...might give that a go because the wine doesn't seem to be helping! Hope you get double-good news today.

Seeline · 18/01/2013 09:43

Hi Stress - sorry you're having to go through all this again Sad Fingers crossed for a better outcome this year [still haven't got the 4 leaf clover emoticon requested last year]

Nosey - I don't think turning down a 10+ place would affect your chances at 11+, although obviously there would be no guarantee of an offer second time round. Different set of boys, different exam, possibly different intake provisions, may mean that you wouldn't be successful again. That was the decision we had to weigh up last year.

Burntout - they definitely do recall some boys for second sports assessments. My DS was not involved so I don't know who/why this happens, but be prepared Smile

Ladymuck · 18/01/2013 10:10

LIZS, apparently the potential scholar was good though. Ds seemed to think he was already grade 5 which is impressive for brass at that age. Shame if they lost him to W...

kimalima · 18/01/2013 10:38

W interview today! Even if we have to trek there, we are going!
Still nothing from T... Staying sane and crossing fingers and toes.

FatalFlowerGarden · 18/01/2013 10:48

Best of luck kima - bet it looks v pretty in the snow Grin

kimalima · 18/01/2013 10:54

Thanks fatalflower. I feel very anxious - worse than any job interview I have ever attended.

burntoutdad · 18/01/2013 11:27

Good luck kima and all at interviews - feedback, advice and any tasty snippets of info you could provide on your return would be welcome by all i'm sure!!

I called to ask if Mondays sports assessment would still be on at W and it would appear that due to time constraints, it would take a hurricane/tsunami or similar for them to postpone it. I was told that if its really bad then DS could wear a pair of tracksuit bottoms for outside sports - harsh, but show must go on!

Perhaps they will test on timed snowman building, how far they can throw a snowball and how many snow angels they can make in 2 minutes Smile

Seeline · 18/01/2013 11:33

T have just announced that the school is closing at lunchtime due to the bad weather. You may want to check the position re interviews if you have one Smile
Good luck everyone.

Trashpack · 18/01/2013 11:49

Good luck kimalima! Hope interview goes really well.

Aargh, nothing in the post today...this waiting is horrendous and I'm feeling less positive as the days go on. If my ds hasn't passed the exam, when will W tell me?

I've been reading old threads from other years to see if it mentions how quickly you are informed if ds doesn't pass, but can't seem to find out-does anyone know usual length of time it takes to find out if its bad news? 8 days is torture :-(

therugratref · 18/01/2013 12:19

Good luck Kima, fingers crossed for fatal and those still waiting to hear.

JohnnyT · 18/01/2013 16:01

DS's interview at W today seemed to go fine. The W boys were out in large numbers to put DS at ease. Other than a math question for DS everything was pretty low key. On the down side the interviewer didn't give any indication of how DS did on his exam or chances of getting in. So totally clueless on what will happen on Feb 14th -- I'll be watching for the post!

havinganightmare · 18/01/2013 16:10

My DS just got home and said he met a lovely boy being interviewed today at W from a primary school near Croydon who was with his Mum. He said he hoped he got in because he was "so nice Mum"! So good luck to whoevers DS that was and in fact good luck to everyone! The interviewers def know how to draw info from the boys so please don't stress to much - in our case they got blood from a stone as mine is v shy!! We were late for interview DS hadn't eaten since breakfast (it was 2 o'clock!!) the whole thing was a disaster and we had tears before going in. Got stuck in terrible traffic due to accident so despite some prep and journey planning he couldn't have had a worse start - and he got in! So please don't stress too much about the actual interview!Blush

burntoutdad · 18/01/2013 16:14

JohnnyT - Well its out of your hands now, just have to sit and wait, and wonder, and speculate etc etc. Letters are posted on 14th so wouldn't reach until 15th at best. Good luck!
What did they talk about to you? did they ask why W? Did you apply for a scholarship of any sort?

JohnnyT · 18/01/2013 16:21

Definitely got the why W question. I liked the fact that they didn't quiz my DS on what other schools he was applying to (more about his interests, hobbies, etc.) W is definitely our (and DS's) 1st choice so nothing to hide but I always thought that was inappropriate to ask a 10 yr old. After the why W it was basically a casual chat. I was over-caffeinated so did talk like a complete loon a bit much. All done till the 15th so it's Wine time and time to make a snowman...
