I thought I would start this tradition once again while we all wait? DS only sat Trinity...

So could it be that those being considered for scholarships are invited first for interview?

Definitely not. DS2 was considered for, and offered, an academic scholarship at Whitgift and was invited for interview by letter.

Sorry, meant to add I had friends going for sports ones too who were invited by letter.

I imagine they simply invite a batch by phone to get the interviews started early.

More congratulations in order!! Well done to everyone's DSs so far. Lets keep the PMA going. More good news tomorrow surely.

Do you think they do all the sports scholarship assessments on the same day? Possibly not???? so hopefully, not being informed yet doesn't mean bad news.

Yes, I agree maybe first phone calls were just to get the ball rolling.

Had a call from T. DS has an interview. Yay....

Yay Marni! Well done to your DS. Fingers crossed for interview. Have they just called you?

Thanks somelikeithott. Got the call an hour or so ago but been too busy to post. Best of luck to you and everyone else waiting. (By the way, not an 'A' surname, not a low candidate number, not an early application, not a child-genius!! It must be random)

No call for us as yet. Whitgift 10+

Hi, I'm new to all this too and not used to calling my son a DS, so forgive me if I get something wrong!

My DS did the 11+ at Whitgift last week and we haven't heard anything as yet. A friend of mine who also had a son taking the exam, had a phone call on Saturday morning inviting him for an interview this Thursday.

I spoke to Whitgift admissions a few weeks ago and the lady told me that the boys who would like sports scholarships are tested on either 22nd, 23rd or 24th Jan.

So, I'm trying to stay positive and hope that no news is good news! It's so great reading this thread and knowing that I'm not alone in worrying & waiting.

Good luck to everyone who has interviews pending or is still waiting for news.

not necessarily regen - could still mean interview and offer but just not with scholarship. I could be wrong, someone on another forum said they were called to interview a while after everyone else and still got a scholarship, just don't see it if sports testing is next Monday.

burntoutdad · 15/01/2013 18:51

sorry regen, my post went up out of sync - looks like they have arranged alternative sports testing days. Maybe I misheard w/c 21st.

I've just looked through last years thread and someone I know was invited to interview for T as late as the 21st Jan and was offered a place.

Report
regentonian · 15/01/2013 19:05

The info I got from one of the open days has the dates for sports scholarship as 21st for 10+ and 22nd, 23rd & 24th for 11+. I'm sure it's interviews before any assessments.

Yes, great news Marni! And notadragonofsoup are you a reincarnation of soupdragon (whose description of ds practice writing piece ending in blood bath made me laugh in the middle of my own struggles to get ds writing something appropriate!)?!

Just wanted to say good luck to you all. We did the 10+ last year and remember the stress all too well! We got a letter from W after 2 weeks and my ds went on to receive a s/ship. There doesn't seem to be any method as to how they contact you. DS joined W and loves it! Fingers crossed for you all x

Thanks Greytoosoon that's good to know.

Regent - I think I would have to agree with you. Although maybe in some cases they could do the assessments anyway if a boy has done well and follow with interview?? school calendar shows sports scholarship days being run Mon - Fri next week so still time. Notice Music scholarships on Mon- Tue only so maybe these are also in first batch for interview?

I feel for you all reading this. Did it last year and the angst and stress over interviews, sports scholarship, phone calls, theories etc is hell - hence my mumsnet name! Last year from memory they added an extra couple of sports scholarship days to those listed on the calendar. We only received the letter for the scholarship call back the day before - delayed in the post!! We had a very early interview but read nothing in to that. Still to this day don't know the rhyme or reason but I have met others who had late interviews who still got offers and scholarships, in academic and sports and music. Good luck and try to keep it together - take a leaf outof the DCs book as frankly mine seemed stress free once the exams were over!! Wine and lots of it! Wink

You're right of course Nightmare - a voice of reason. To be honest I wasn't that bad until I started getting involved with this thread. I should have stayed clear of all the gossiping Wink. Now up late working to catch up on all the work I didn't manage to do today due to stressing and speculating about what might be happening. DS has moved on now and doesn't even mention it any more Smile.

PopcornPizza, yes it was my DS2 who was unable to write appropriate stories :)

There is no rhyme or reason to the order you are invited for interview - I have this on good authority.

Another mother who has to plead with Ds not to involve Zombie blood baths or slasher movie script lines in the English composition. At least we are still stressing about one more exam-have not really started to stress over Whitgift call yet.

Report
Somelikeithott · 16/01/2013 08:50

Good morning all. I hear you therugratref, DS's English teacher has told him to try and bring a bit of realism into his compositions. I dread to think what he would've written for w. A question including a nightmare was definitely asking for it.......

There really seems to be no rhyme or reason, all random. So we'll take comfort in that.

Has anyone whose DS going for interview in W been asked to bring something in? And if so what camp are you in? 10 + or 11+?

Morning all... Nothing yesterday when I got home - we shall see if today brings any news. I hate waiting - if we're going to get a 'no' I'd just rather know now!

Well done those who had good news y'day - fingers x'd for your doses at interview!

I sympathise with burntoutdad needing to catch up with work late last night because following this thread is a compulsive distraction here.
Been asked to bring in something to T, but not W. I don't think it matters too much what, just something to start the conversation and put boys at ease. Really hoping that you all get some good news soon!
