Can anyone tell me if there is a 13+ day place intake at Whitgift? I know they take boarders at that age but the website is very unclear about whether this applies to day places as well.

Thanks

Some interesting posts on previous years threads. One boy waited 3 weeks for interview letter, another was invited to sports assessment day prior to being interviewed! Wonder how usual this is?

Report
NotADragonOfSoup · 16/01/2013 15:38

I imagine it is fairly normal. I reckon it is too big an operation to add in any kind of sorting wrt timing of interviews. Basically, the entrance exam tells them which boys are capable of doing well at the school. The interview and/or sports assessment is what tells them which boys they want.

Well done all who have interviews! Hang in there those who haven't heard yet. If you read the thread from last year it can take aaaages, so no news definitely doesn't mean bad news.

hardboiled · 16/01/2013 18:55

Fab somelikeithott! Now you have to bring him back down from the moon so he can actually attend!

Hardboiled, I've sent a space rocket to bring him straight back (lol).

Kylep, welcome to the thread and congratulations to your DS, all the best with the interview & hearing from T. My DS is in the 10+ camp as well. I was going to ask re interview prep as well. It is tricky because we have always taught him to be humble & not cocky, so now having to tell him to sell himself is kind of difficult for him. He keeps asking if that wont be boasting etc.

We don't want to over coach him, because we feel he is better off being himself and using his own words. Also there is the question of which school is his first choice. The truth is, he changes his mind every week. We have decided we will deal with making a decision on where he goes when the time for that comes ( fingers crossed). But clearly, he has to tell each school they are is first choice???? Moral dilemma!!!

So in summary, advice needed, his interviews are on 2 consecutive days, so good in a way.

I did no interview prep with either of my DSs.

DS2 tells me he had to do a short English comprehension in his interview (because that was the weakest by a bloody long way of his papers). Other than that, it was just a chat. He thinks he was asked about what he liked about the school (and I don't think he told W he liked it because it gave him a legitimate reason to hate his brother who is a T. Which is what he told me when expressing a preference).

Remember that they are interviewing children and don't expect adult quality interview technique :) They have also done enough of these that they know how to deal with nervousness and draw your boy out of himself to get to know them in that 15 minutes.
