Oh and concert went well this evening- classical pieces in the first half and rock bands in the second. DS's band managed to put their artistic differences to one side and perform really well (they fall out more than Oasis!). We can tick than off the list now Smile

magentadreamer · 21/06/2012 22:18

Glad the band managed to put aside their artistic differences Webwiz Grin
DD sat her OCR Physics last week or was it the week before( -exams are merging into one here!) her Physics teacher told them their paper was easier then the one the other sets sat in Jan, hopefully your DS has a similar paper tomorrow.

circular · 21/06/2012 22:41

Webwiz - thanks fir clearing that up.
Your two DCs must be doing the 2nd paper - DDs OCR physics was before half term.

So what was WJEC. DD only has Geofgwith them and it's supposed to be the most difficult.

Glad concert went well too.

GnomeDePlume · 22/06/2012 08:32

Can I just say damn, damn, damn

The wretched school has managed to mess things up once more. Not satisfied with letting year 11 students down with poor teachers in maths (went postal, fired), history (was politely asked to leave), german (was reassigned to other duties more befitting her inability to teach german), they have even managed to mess up the end of year 11 assembly. Apparently it clashed with the year 6 transfer day. Now, I might be wrong but dont these two things come round with a certain regularity?

The leavers' assembly has now been put back to some random date two weeks later. This after formal invitations had been issued for the original date.

The thing is that the school has no 6th form of its own so all year 11s leave. This is an important final celebration and farewell for them. Many of the students have booked holidays etc on the basis of original dates. This means that the school has once more managed to turn a celebration into a damp squib.

Sorry, I just needed to rant. As you were!

webwiz · 22/06/2012 09:48

That's very annoying GnomeDePlume and puzzling too as they have both things every single year!

SecretSquirrels · 22/06/2012 10:04

GnomeDePlume what a shame. That last day should leave them with lifelong memories and it won't be the same if half of them miss it.
circular I don't think they did CAs in Eng Lit just two terminal exams.

magentadreamer · 22/06/2012 13:20

My DD has done a CA for English Lit -WJEC board.

Circular - DD sat the first Unit for OCR Physics, I think they have several specs.

Gnome - I'd want to rant as well!

circular · 22/06/2012 13:25

Gnome- That's awful. I suppose they've opted to change the yr11 ratrher than yr6 date as easier to get messages through.

Squirrels - If the Eng Lit is AQA, I think it follows two optonal routes. Both have tw exams and a CA. But it is possible to choose between which of the 2nd exam and CA are poetry or Shakespeare.

GnomeDePlume · 22/06/2012 13:31

I can see why they have changed the year 11s, what I cant see is why they got to that point in the first place. Surely timetabling is bread and butter for a school?

Oh well, as DD said this morning, this is why she is glad to be leaving!

Kez100 · 23/06/2012 05:02

English Lit here - AQA - is 25% CA. I don't know on what. The two exams 35% poetry 40% different cultures and something else (something else for us was short stories but there was a list of books in the choice too)

Gnome - that's awful! Poor children. Ours all leave too and it's a really important day.

guineapiglet · 23/06/2012 12:46

Reading about how schools mess it up on the last day - how about organising a Year 11 end of year leavers party ON THE SAME DAY as half the school had two Physics GCSE papers - one taken with fire bells going off etc. This meant the other half of the school not taking the papers came in in party mood and the whole atmosphere at school according to various Year 11s was one of relaxed chaos.......... add to that the whole year having a police escort off school premises due to arrests being made for drugs. I was utterly furious with the school for even contemplating organising a party on the same day as important exams - what kind of message does that send to the ones who had worked their backsides off?

GnomeDePlume · 23/06/2012 17:06

Oh my word guineapiglet that is dreadful.

BringBack1996 · 23/06/2012 17:16

It's ridiculous just how wrong schools can get things! Such a shame, especially at such an important time.

sue52 · 24/06/2012 21:14

guineapiglet I would want someone's head on a plate for that.

empirestateofmind · 25/06/2012 12:07

guineapiglet what a shame Sad.

knittedslippersx3 · 25/06/2012 12:14

Science this afternoon and then we are done.

Yes, dd survived but even better than that so did I!

Revision was incredibly scarce in our house. I set up a study area, bought every revision guide available, revision timetable - the whole shebang but nothing worked. :( if it all goes pear shaped at least I know I tried. Hopefully she will scrape through to sixth form and get a wake up call.

See you all in August.

BringBack1996 · 25/06/2012 12:49

Geography over with now, so only german and latin until DS has finished. It's bloody impossible to get him to do any revision now as most of his friends have finished his exams :(

BringBack1996 · 25/06/2012 12:49

have finished their* exams

GnomeDePlume · 25/06/2012 13:27

German still for us. DD1 is now on induction for 6th form so revision is now over bar a little bit of last minute reading.

On a positive note the school saw sense and have now rescheduled (again) the leavers assembly to this Thursday. Hopefully this is the third and final date!

BackforGood · 25/06/2012 13:36

ds's prom is on the same day as his last exam. I don't have a problem with that.
Surely that's down to behaviour expectations at the school - having some respect for people who are still taking exams ? A lot have already finished anyway, so won't even be in. Do you mean the pupils were setting fire alarms off ??
The arrests for drugs is a whole different story though, surely.

MaureenMLove · 25/06/2012 16:23

FINALLY! It's over! Timetables, revision plans, school uniform and text books are being evicted! Grin

Until Thursday, when she has her induction day at 6th form and a list of required reading and summer tasks come home!

Onwards and upwards.

Congratulations everyone for making it through. The A2's and AS's finished today and the last of the GCSE's will b done by this time on Wednesday!

Have a wondrful, happy and relaxed summer everyone and I'll see you on 23rd! Smile

BringBack1996 · 25/06/2012 16:31

I'm a bit worried that DS doesn't seem to have a sixth form induction. Will email the school in case I've just misplaced an important letter about it!

MaureenMLove · 25/06/2012 16:59

You might wanna check that he didn't get a letter sent directly to him first, via school! DD got her place and induction information sent addressed to her.

BringBack1996 · 25/06/2012 17:12

Good point, however he's normally quite good at relaying information. The term calendar doesn't seem to have anything either, so I think it'll be worth a quick check with school!

Kez100 · 25/06/2012 17:33

Congratulations to those who have finished today. It's a good feeling, isn't it?

My daughter visited her new college end of year exhibition this weekend - she is so excited - she just wants to start. She has ideas for her final major project already! LOL!

Yes, see you all on the 23rd. Gulp!
