All over here too - last exam (geog) was this am.

Free now till September. Has to go in an regisiter for 6th form at beginning of Sept and starts back on the 10th.

Prom next week - all kitted out and looking forward to it.

Just the results day to cause a few jitters - hoping its all worked out and he gets what he needs to return to 6th form.

webwiz · 25/06/2012 21:55

Well done to all those who have finished - still at the coalface here in year 10, DS is quite stressed about tomorrows History CA which is under high control in the school hall instead of a year 10 history exam. He has nothing to worry about as far as I can see from his essay plan but he wants to do well.

He had a two hour school play rehearsal this evening and his hay fever is causing problems so he's feeling worn out even though its only monday. As soon as the history is over with he'll be preparing for next weeks french CA. At least the play is Romeo and Juliet and they are studying it for English Lit next year Smile

empirestateofmind · 26/06/2012 11:02

All over here too, thank goodness. What a marathon it was.

See you all in August!

BringBack1996 · 26/06/2012 16:38

Last exam for DS tomorrow! After a month and a half it's nearly over :)

GnomeDePlume · 27/06/2012 08:35

DD has last one this morning - German reading. Today is the last day of school uniform for her. Leavers' assembly tomorrow morning, prom next Friday then it's over.

However, I have just realised that this isnt the end:

2013 - DD1 AS levels
2014 - DD1 A levels
2015 - DS GCSEs
2016 - DS AS levels & DD2 GCSEs
2017 - DS A levels & DD2 AS levels
2018 - DD2 Alevels

Gove permitting of course!

bruffin · 27/06/2012 10:48

DS said german reading was easy this morning Gnome
He still has some ict and electronics to finish off, but he is off to a 6th form induction for today and tomorrow and prom on Monday.

BringBack1996 · 27/06/2012 10:51

It's all over! Sadly not a good report of the german reading here, but DS is very relieved to be finished.

maddiemostmerry · 27/06/2012 11:22

Also back form German, easier than expected is the feedback from ds.

We are also finished. Well done to everyone's children and hope they all get what they hope for on the 23rd.

guineapiglet · 27/06/2012 11:40

German reading finally over and done with ' not too bad' was the common agreement of the year 11s I collected from late breakfast at McDonald's ( their choice not mine!!). I cannot believe HOW LONG the last two months have gone on, seems like forever since they started at the beginning of May - well done to everyone on surviving and keeping calm and carrying on ( mostly). These GCSES have been a real testament to stamina and determination, despite what the delightful Mr Gove has to say. Time to pack up all the old school uniform and pass on to others - what a rite of passage.

GnomeDePlume · 27/06/2012 13:06

Yes, DD also reported German as easy (however she is a fluent Dutch speaker so hits this with just a bit of an advantage!).

DD also returned to final day of 6th form induction. Leaver's assembly tomorrow (in mufti) then freedom!

Agreed, well done everybody!

IdontknowwhyIcare · 28/06/2012 05:51

Just popping in to see if everyone has finished now. Hopefully so, I'm aghast at schools which are doing CA at the moment. Our school completed them all before Easter so the students could focus on revision.

Have a good summer and see you back on 23 August. I shall be alone ds and dh agreed whilst I was at work yesterday that ds could go away with friends to holland on , yep 23 August. However we have no plan B so I suppose it doesn't matter anyway. Sigh.....

BackforGood · 28/06/2012 14:02

Yes, ds finished yesterday.
I can relax a bit now or move my nagging to some other area of his life.

bruffin · 12/07/2012 19:36

Ist results in
Ds got his Arkwright scholarshipGrin
This means he will get £600 while he is in 6th form to study maths and physics. School gets £400 and Ds will have a sponsor/mentor who will hopefully give him work experience.

Great news! Congrats to master Bruffin!

bruffin · 12/07/2012 21:51

Thanks Fluffy

Kez100 · 12/07/2012 21:55

Fantastic!

Can't help but think an Arkwright scholarship is working in a shop with a dodgy till though!

OP posts:
bruffin · 12/07/2012 22:00

Lol,
I think I should buy him a flat cap and overalls.

gettingalifenow · 13/07/2012 07:11

Way to go, Bruffin! Let's hope all the summer news is that good

magentadreamer · 14/07/2012 10:33

Well done Master Bruffin. I must admit I have visions of him in overalls and a flat cap too!

andisa · 14/07/2012 12:01

bruffin - soEnvy. Did not know about Arkwright and wonder is it way too late to apply. Do they not consider Yr 12 applications?

Congrats to your DS.

My DS has just been on a Smallpiece trust course and gained a great deal. Just finished Yr 11.

Any tips about preparing for Engineering would be gratefully received.

bruffin · 14/07/2012 12:34

To apply for arkwright you
Have to be in year 11 studying Dt or engineering and considering a career in engineering.

School has to be affiliated to the trust

Have to take maths and physics for A level

There is set procedure for applying

Application is done in February
2hour test done 2or 3 weeks later. All the applicants have to do the test at the same time at their own school.

Those who are successful from the test attend an interview day at a university such as Cambridge, Imperial, Southhampto

bruffin · 14/07/2012 12:46

Oops phone went silly
Think also Includes Edinburgh and Loghborough

They had to present a project to the panel and talk about their future plans

We then have had to wait until this week for the result.
There are about a 1000 applications and they give out about 300 scholarships
Ds only found out about it the week before when he went to talk to his teacher about a career in acoustics. They then asked him if he wanted to apply.Another boy also applied but didn't get past the test.

It doesn't seem to be open to year 12 but I think there does seem to be engineering scholarship in yr 12 13 if.you search on Google.
Engineers are still sort after in this country. Dh just got made redundant and didn't really have a problem finding another job.

andisa · 14/07/2012 13:03

Thank you Bruffin. Will do some more research and let you know.

cardibach · 06/08/2012 22:05

Hello all! Just wondering how the holidays are going - are you and your DCs coping with the wait for results?
Mine has been to South Africa with school for 2 weeks, so that took her mind off it. She's getting a bit twitchy now, though.
I keep trying to count up the ones I think ahe has 'in the bag' at a high grade. Pointless.

Kez100 · 06/08/2012 22:50

My daughters won her first photo competition (a local National Trust one) and is very happy as that is what she is going on to study full time. She is, currently, emgrossed in the Olympics and knows one competitor so - on those days - is completely immoveable! We are going on holiday canoeing on results week but not so far away as we can't get back for an hour to collect them, but I may not be around immediately.
