Fluffy, DS seems to have lost all motivation too. I think they must just be so tired though, it seems a bit unfair to have such tough exams at the end when they're getting to fed up with the whole thing!

bruffin · 19/06/2012 19:40

DS has physics tomorrow and last German next wednesday so I will be there with you Bringback1996
DS been getting blisters on his thumb from writing, i looked and he holds his pen really oddly. A bit Hmm that its taken me all this time to noticeShock

GnomeDePlume · 19/06/2012 20:18

Sympathies to your DS bruffin. DD has had to wear a wrist brace for some of the longer written exams. It seems that she writes far more than I ever did in an exam!

Metabilis3 · 20/06/2012 07:35

DD1 has physics today. She's in Y9 - this is her first proper GCSE written exam. I'm not even in the UK right now (I'm in Luxembourg. I don't recommend it). :( she seemed fine when I texted her just now. But still. It's swivel I'm more nervous than her I suppose.

bruffin · 20/06/2012 08:46

Well bad start to the dayHmm

DS got up with bad hayfever.

I haven't bought him a train ticket this week because he is only going in twice. He got to the station and the machine tried to charge him £12 instead of £6 then he had to swap machines and ended up missing the train!

Thankfully DH is on late shift and had to rush out with no breakfast to take him by car. Hopefully he made it in time!

bruffin · 20/06/2012 08:46

that should have been a Sad not a Hmm

gettingalifenow · 20/06/2012 08:57

Your poor DS, bluffing. Hay fever here too, in a big day. And last week there was the only day of the whole exam season when I couldn't drive DD in and she caught the first two trains but the final connection didn't come! And all the girls had to run up the hill - not a good start to the exam....

bruffin · 20/06/2012 09:35

He made it in time and DH has gone to Costa for a breakfast:)
I have been dreading that there would be problems with the trains Gettingalifenow, he has been going a train early just in case but this morning he risked it! One train is bad enough, 3 trains must be a nightmare. Dh only started his new job last week and was on 7-3 last week but this week it was 10-6 so he was there to rescue him. Only one exam left and a bit of course work to finish, then can relax a bit.

gettingalifenow · 20/06/2012 10:49

I'm so looking forward to 3 pm this afternoon when it's all over for this year! Mind you DS gets his degree results at 4pm so its just a brief respite from the stress!

Kez100 · 20/06/2012 11:03

Scary times Bruff. Pleased timings worked out in the end.

Text to say the additional science paper was fine and she was pleased with the way it went. All over now....yippeeeee!

Now she has her Prom on the 29th (shoes and bag to buy still!) and visits to the end of year and end of course exhibitions for the course she is joining next year. I think one college might do a taster day as well, but it's her second choice college and going there depends on results. We let them know that, so I don't know if she will get invited to the taster day.

I am hoping in July she will go up to stay with my parents for a few days as we are all working, her brother is at school, and she is close to them.

Hi all. Last exam was this morning - AQA Physics unit 1 (new spec). Just had a text from DD 'Easier than chemistry & biology!'. But she did think they were hard ;)

knittedslippersx3 · 20/06/2012 11:56

Dd had science this morning. One more to go on Monday and then we are done! Study leave and half term did us no good re revision, dd would have been better off if they were made to stay at school. Ah well, too late now what will be will be. :)

GnomeDePlume · 20/06/2012 12:28

'what will be will be', I echo that sentiment knitted. I said to DD the other day that whatever the results we know that she worked hard and has done her best.

glaurung · 20/06/2012 14:03

What a relief it's over GrinGrinGrin.

Dd is looking more relaxed than I've seen for a while and preparing piles of notes for burning!

Kez100 · 20/06/2012 14:48

My daughter has just taken hers into her brother's bedroom, dumped them on his bed with a note "With Love"

Cheeky mare.

Stark reminder though. I will be back here again in 23 months!

Stark reminder though. I will be back here again in 23 months!
Me too Kez, with Alevels at the same time as gcses!

SecretSquirrels · 20/06/2012 15:39

Another one with a Year 9 as well.
So in 2014 it will be GCSEs and A levels.

Whatever the results well done to everyone's DCs they have all worked so hard.

Catch up with everyone in August for results.

BeingFluffy · 20/06/2012 17:35

Phew finally finished, last exam today (Latin) which went well said DD. She was in tears last night fearing that she might have got a B in English and not being allowed to do A' level!. Just the stress of the the last few weeks and the attitude of some of her peers who think anything less than an A* is a fail is getting to her (the teachers are far more relaxed). I bought her a bunch of flowers and a card to say well done and we are proud of her for her hard work. Just upgraded to Sky HD so she can have it all to herself for a few weeks!

MaureenMLove · 20/06/2012 17:47

DD still has one more to go! It's getting really boring now. She's got the last unit of her Science on Monday then she really can begin her summer.

The last of the national exams is on Wednesday, so I might actually be able to relax at work then too! Although the yr9's start the same day on their first English module! And so the process starts again!

I'm so happy that I've only got one child. Once it's done it's done and I never have to revist GCSE's again! Grin

gettingalifenow · 20/06/2012 17:59

All done here too! dD currently relaxing with the Pringles....

BringBack1996 · 20/06/2012 19:00

Well done to everyone's DC for reaching the end! DS has got over the worst of it now (3 exams today!) but still has three to go next week. Even so he can definitely relax now, the worst is over :)

Yellowtip · 20/06/2012 21:19

One tomorrow and one next Wednesday then Thursday off plus the Prom then back to school on Friday for a week of Sixth Form induction. This year's GCSE's seem to have gone on for far longer than in previous years - not sure if they have, but they do seem very drawn out.

DS3 has been very steady. Neither of us are expecting miracles, but I'll be very cross on his behalf if steady hard graft isn't rewarded. I feel very protective of this particular DS - Lioness rather than Tiger.

circular · 21/06/2012 07:14

First post to the thread as DD1 in yr 10. She only had English Lang and first papers for Chem, Phys, Bio before half term. Then First Geog after half term.

But just when she thought it was all over and she was looking forward to a couple of weeks gentle introduction to the new units and starting
Eng Lit course, the controlled assessments have been sprung on them.
So in the space of three weeks, CAs in 3 sciences, French and Geog. Extras for Eng Lang as an insurance policy for those on cusp of two grades to avoid resits. Maths mock - 2 papers. And first music composition due in.
She's feeling really stressed now, as apart from chemistry, all the papers went worse than expected. And all of this will affect her predicted grades for 6th firm applications next term.

Any other yr 10s just been landed with similar?

webwiz · 21/06/2012 08:42

DS is in the middle of a year 10 nightmare as well circular he has two concerts, school play rehearsals and work experience thrown into the mix as well Hmm

I'm just trying to keep him on an even keel and the thing that comes next in the front of his mind. Physics GCSE tomorrow so he'll have to read through his notes before tonights concert and then he'll be preparing for the french CA in gaps in the play rehearsal on saturday. History CA is sometime in the next week as well as year 10 exams. I'm completely stressed out about it all never mind him!

circular · 21/06/2012 09:12

webwiz - Oh yes work experience starting w/c 2/7 too. DD has 2 x 1 week placements., and still has to fit in a pre-interview for one of them.
Also have school concert next week which will mean being pulled out of at least a day's worth of lessons for rehearsals. And music school performances Saturday and Sunday. And D of E practice expedtiion the following weekend....

That's late for physics - your poor DS still having papers in the midst of all the CA's etc. DD said the other triple science set did thier CA's during the main GCSE fortnight.

Like you, I'm getting stressed just keeping track of it all,.
As well as trying to diarise sixth form open days/evenings for next term.

Poor DD was still working on her French preparation after i went to bed last night.
