OP posts:
cardibach · 12/06/2012 19:49

Hope that goes weel, Kez. Yes, it will be lovely to finish. We are going to have Chinese to celebrate - fancy! Mid week take away! SHe's doing a Paper 2 now and seems relatively happy.

BringBack1996 · 12/06/2012 20:38

It's been all excitement this week for us. DS2 arrived on Saturday so revision was on hold somewhat at the weekend! Both DS2 and I are home now so DS1's decided that he's going to stay at my DM's until friday so he can fully concentrate on exams. I've just got off the phone with him though and he was happy with history, his favourite topic came up which is good. Biology not so good but AQA seem to ask some bizarre questions! It will be lovely when he finishes, still 12 to go though.

BeingFluffy · 12/06/2012 20:44

Oh wow congratulations Bringback1996! You will be reminiscing about the old fashioned exams hand written on paper in 16 years time...

GnomeDePlume · 12/06/2012 21:18

History for DD1 today then again on Friday. Reported that the paper seemed okay, only one out-of-left-field question apparently.

Statistics is the thing DD isnt looking forward to. They have only done a short course and while DD is very strong in maths she is finding the lack of context in stats disheartening. Having had a look at the paper I can see what she means. It does seem a bit open and vague and not helped by only having had lessons since around Christmas.

guineapiglet · 13/06/2012 09:15

Just seen all the Year 11s standing outside school eagerly anticpating Maths Paper 2 today!!!!! My daughter has that today, Geog tomorrow, and then a horrible day on Monday with back to back exams of Geog, German and then the dreaded Statistics...... I am already having sleepless nights praying that she will make it through until then, it has been quite a struggle over the last two years with health concerns...the remaining German 45 minute reading exam is then a whole week later, why do they do this?? I feel as if I am doing them all with her, even now am clock watching! SO looking forward to THE END! I love the idea of a special breakfast and will hopefully be organising one for us all on the results day...

BeingFluffy · 13/06/2012 09:31

Whew, so glad DD is not doing statistics! Her maths teacher advised against it as it had proved to be "a GCSE too far" for some. Her school (a superselective) are dropping it altogether next year because it the coursework is so time consuming and eats into revision time for other subjects. DD is hoping for a good Edexcel paper 2. She desperately wants an A* but maths is her weakest subject.

mummytime · 13/06/2012 09:46

DS gone in to Maths 3 today, he hasn't revised enough so I just have to hope now. Then he just has Geography and a physics resit. Physics should be easy now, may need to nag about the Geography.
And my little one is at school camp this week.

hellsbells99 · 13/06/2012 11:01

DD has maths today, chemistry on Friday and then Physics next week. Did anyones DC take the AQA core science A Unit 1a paper yesterday? My friends DC said it was very hard - anyone have any feedback on this one? Thanks :)

hellsbells99 · 13/06/2012 11:10

Just had a text from DD after maths exam saying 'Went well!' - fingers crossed then! Hopefully that will make up for some of the mistakes she made in the 1st paper including misreading the first question!

BringBack1996 · 13/06/2012 11:59

Maths also went well here, although this was a pretty stress free exam for DS as he did well in the other two modules. The end is getting closer!

BeingFluffy · 13/06/2012 12:16

Edexcel Calc a lot easier than non-calc, DD reports, friends thought the same.

sue52 · 13/06/2012 12:22

DD is checking The Student Room to see if the maths marks scheme has been posted yet. She thought it an easy paper too.

hellsbells99 · 13/06/2012 12:33

Student Room is not allowed to post marks until tomorrow I think, due to time differences in other countries sitting the same paper. Let me know if you spot it though as DD will want it! ;)

knittedslippersx3 · 13/06/2012 14:23

BeingFluffy - same opinion here about maths from dd and friends.
History re-sit on Friday, then 2 science exams left and we are all done!

gettingalifenow · 13/06/2012 14:29

Note tho that the student room marks schemes are unofficial anyway - compiled by teachers etc not the examiners... But I guess it's a good guide...

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/06/2012 14:43

DD said maths 2 was easy- it is one of her better subjects and DH has a degree in maths so we have a tutor on tap! It was a retake as she to

ok it last year and got 2 marks off an A so she's hoping to get the A this year.
History on Friday and Maths 3 on Tuesday and then she's FINISHED!!!!

IdontknowwhyIcare · 13/06/2012 14:44

Finished! Oh I am so happy ;-) ds taxied home from school, unloaded the dswasher, got himself a snack nd as been playing COD ever since. Lol.
His opinion on the maths was that it was alright and def not easier than the other one.

We are off out to dinner tonight, ds has been told his dad is sorting dinner (he is he made the restaurant booking). It's a treat for all his hard work.
Good luck everyone, see you back in august for results day.

empirestateofmind · 13/06/2012 14:58

DD also said the maths paper today was fine. She has one exam next week then the last on the 26th.

That is a nice idea to go out to dinner after the last one- I will see if DD wants to do that. I like the champagne breakfast idea for results day too.

empirestateofmind · 13/06/2012 15:00

Well done Idontknowwhy, enjoy the break and see you back in August!

SecretSquirrels · 13/06/2012 15:26

BringBack1996 Congratulations and some virtual Thanks. Off topic but how is it going? Is the baby stuff all coming back to you after 16 years?

A day off here. Chemistry on Friday the just 2 more next week.DS did his Maths in Year 10 and has Statistics instead this year which he describes as boring but easy.
We have promised a meal out to celebrate.

BringBack1996 · 13/06/2012 15:30

It's all going well, thanks! At the moment it's very much a learning curve as it was with DS, however definitely less controlling stressed as I was at this point with DS1!

Ormiriathomimus · 13/06/2012 16:47

Well maths was.........OK.... Hmm I have accepted by now that is all I am going to get told about any exams.

cardibach · 13/06/2012 17:06

WE'VE FIIIIIIINNNNNIIIIIIISHED! Yay!
Currently drinking Bellini in celebration prior to getting a take away. Final Maths paper was OK, apparently, despite her being unwell this morning. She had a sore throat yesterday, and got a bit of a headache before bed. This morning she looked awful, bad head, bad throat and really sick. She kept heaving at breakfast time. I told the exam secretary at school and told her to tell the invigilator just in case, but it went off a bit before the start and she seems fine now. It could have just been last minute nerves, but it had me going for a while! I suggested she play it to her advantage and throw up just before the really hard A* questions she can't do - perhaps the Board would have processed special consideration! Grin.
Relieved she got through it, though, and enjoying sitting with her without the necessity for a nag!

GnomeDePlume · 13/06/2012 17:11

Well done to those finished!

We are hunkered down for the duration. Quite soon we will have to break out into cheering songs to keep all our spirits up!

AmazingDisgrace · 13/06/2012 17:19

Maths paper 3 was also reported as fine here too but with a 7 mark question - is that the first 7 marker? Ive only seen 5 or 6 mark ones on past papers. Chemistry on Friday then that's it...until Year 11
