sqa exams 2023

So only about 2 months til the final exams so starting a thread to discuss revision, exams etc.

Have any schools released details of easter revision classes yet? I've heard nothing from our school and don't know if they are doing any. If they aren't, I might look at what else is on offer over easter.

DD is awaiting her N5 results tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me about Scottish CLEARING please?
Ds has his HNC results. He can apply in the morning when clearing opens.
He's interested in 2 Universities. He has been told by both to apply direct
(he's had no UCAS involvement so far, so not on their list, no number etc)
Just told to 'call the Uni in the morning & see if course available'.
Can he call / hold 2 places, at least for one day, or is that not allowed?

Anyone else awake 🙏

Igneococcus · 08/08/2023 06:05

I'm here, waiting for ds' Nat5 results.

Anyone else awake 🙏

Me!

Good luck everyone! 🍀🍀🍀

Waiting for advanced higher results here for my DS with an unconditional uni offer (luckily) in place. I still find today a bit nerve wracking though.

It's my sixth and last results day so it feels like an end of an era.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 08/08/2023 06:32

Slept ok but needed the loo so expect I am awake for the day now

good luck all

8misskitty8 · 08/08/2023 06:36

im awake too, keeping everything crossed for DD.
Don’t like the appeal system this year. What’s the point of prelims and exam condition assessments throughout the year if they can’t be used ?

inverness123 · 08/08/2023 06:58

DD is awake already - too much stress! I’m trying to get on with some work but I don’t think I’ll get much done!

Bluepeach · 08/08/2023 07:00

For those whose child is about to go to university and thought forums like this would now be over, I found this group on Facebook for parents of University age children (adults??) 😀There is some great chat on there:

Just came looking for a thread on this. Ds is getting his higher results this morning and is very laid back about the whole thing.
I'm nervous he's worked so hard and this means so much to him.

Don't think he's even awake yet. I've just sent him a text asking if he's going to read the text then tell us or read it with us.

Good luck to everyone waiting this morning.

sassanach · 08/08/2023 07:19

@54isanopendoor I'm a careers adviser, yes Clearing is different and you can contact the uni direct

CavalierApproach · 08/08/2023 07:19

Morning all ☕️

NicolaSturGONE · 08/08/2023 07:21

DH and I are awake. We've blown up some balloons because we're proud of DD regardless. She's still in bed, so will probably come dow when she gets the text. If she doesn't, I'm going up there! Even the GPs are nervous, my DM has texted me twice already asking if she has her results yet. I said its 8am but my DM seemingly doesn't know what 8am means bless her, she was the same when it was my exam results, very nervous for me, I think I've inherited that!

Longest morning ever!

weebarra · 08/08/2023 07:43

Careers adviser here with DS1 waiting for his Nat 5 results. Weird being on this side for the first time, but I've got another two DCs to go.
Poor lad has a hospital appointment today as well.
Remember the results helpline if needed, I was at the launch yesterday, my colleagues are waiting for the calls Grin

user143777534 · 08/08/2023 07:50

What is the results helpline? What’s it for?

user143777534 · 08/08/2023 07:51

And good luck everyone!!!!

NicolaSturGONE · 08/08/2023 07:51

Just joked to DH "what if she's forgotten to charge her phone?"
Then panicked, what if she really HAS forgotten to charge her phone?
Shouted up to DD "charge your phone"
"duh mum, I'm trying to sleep, p*ss off"
Charming 😂

Survey99 · 08/08/2023 07:52

Good luck everyone. Hope your dc get the results they expect/deserve.

GottoHandit · 08/08/2023 07:55

Soooo tired had about 1 hrs sleep since I woke up at 2.30am. Didn’t intend to be this invested in the Nat 5s - thought I was chill but evidently not! Can barely keep my eyes open now. Balloons Nicola ? That’s impressive! I think I might be in danger of being too low key here - got some chocolate pastries in for breakfast - that’s as far as I’ve gone to ‘celebrating’ anything. They’re getting eaten regardless of passes/fails, disappointment/triumphs 😂

sassanach · 08/08/2023 07:55

The results helpline is to speak to a careers adviser about your / your child's results. So if you aren't happy and want to appeal, they can explain the appeal changes to those who might not know. If you want advise on clearing, like the poster above, the exam helpline can help. If you want to know what you can do with your results - subject changes, courses etc - they can help. If you don't understand your grades, again they can help.
So basically anything. They are careers advisers with SDS so they don't work with the SQA so dont abuse them if you aren't happy with the new appeals rules.

Bluepeach · 08/08/2023 07:55

Is anyone abroad right now? We are and my son seems to think he can get his results on the SQA website but it says it is closed until 9am . . . as does the UCAS hub . . .

sassanach · 08/08/2023 07:56

And like @weebarra I'm also on the 'other side' for the first time this year with DC1 awaiting results but I like to keep my usernames separate on this thread!
