So only about 2 months til the final exams so starting a thread to discuss revision, exams etc.

Have any schools released details of easter revision classes yet? I've heard nothing from our school and don't know if they are doing any. If they aren't, I might look at what else is on offer over easter.

After the utter stress of waiting for Higher results last year, we are in the "accepted an unconditional and not that bothered" camp this year which is lovely. DD is on holiday with her friends in Greece and isn't sure whether she even signed up for text results!

RollOnJune23 · 07/08/2023 11:25

Has just occurred to me I'll have to wait till he gets up - usually around midday - to know the results! I imagine if he gets a positive text message he might forward it before going back to sleep...

waitingfortuesday · 07/08/2023 11:37

Waiting on a conditional offer here. Wonder if the results will be much lower this year like the IB results and lower A level result predictions.
My teen did so well last year but now needs 2 advanced highers - hoping the reduced grade boundaries last year didn't lure then into a false sense of security!
I'm reading up on clearing today as plan B.
Teenager oblivious and suppose that's the best way to be.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 07/08/2023 12:14

My DC has started to feel anxious/not sleeping as tomorrow gets closer. Also not keen to go out anywhere for change of scenery which I think is making things worse and time dragging by…. Worked so hard for Highers and got selection of As and Bs in prelim but convinced messed up a few papers etc…. Im not sure what to think and just wishing today away!

HGC2 · 07/08/2023 13:45

Do you all plan to wait for the DC's to come to you with results or hover over them? I've got 2 getting results in the morning and anticipate a mixed bag so not sure how best to play it

Rae36 · 07/08/2023 13:51

I opened mine upstairs in my bedroom. My mum was hovering outside the closed door. I hated that.

Last year ds1 got the text results at 8am when he was still in bed and he came out to tell us. I think that was quite good because he could have taken as long as he needed to process it all for himself. If he hadn't appeared till 9am he could still have been asleep for all I knew. I wasn't hanging around.

This year I've got 2 getting results and they're away overnight tonight. So one will get text results at 8am, he might phone me, might not. The other will have an envelope waiting for him when he gets home.

Sturmundcalm · 07/08/2023 14:30

I checked with DS after reading some of the messages on here earlier and he says he will tell us as soon as he has seen them but will process them first... So I'm another who's not going to be hanging around waiting in case he sleeps in or doesn't want to talk straight away.

for him to come to me but I expect he will do so quite quickly

NicolaSturGONE · 07/08/2023 14:51

If DD doesn't come downstairs by 8.05am I'll probably bang on her door....

dd plns to wake up whenever and check her phone. i have takentht eday off to see what it entails and will be up from all hours as usual. will have to resist temptation to make lots of noise and accidentlally wake her! ;-)

NicolaSturGONE · 07/08/2023 16:59

DD is asking what reward she will get for passing, so she seems confident! and it HAS to be a cash reward....wee chancer.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 07/08/2023 18:36

Ha! My ex and his folks do financial rewards for results.. I give them something nice or cash when exam period is over to reward effort ( they all work very hard, but due to varying neurodiversity do not always all achieve at a level that reflects that).

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 07/08/2023 21:39

I’m scared 😩

inverness123 · 07/08/2023 22:05

DD’s got her Nat5s tomorrow. I know next year will be much worse, but still feeling pretty anxious about it! I’m going to try not to pester her in the morning, but I’m not sure how long I can hold off …

MathsNervous · 07/08/2023 22:11

If DS has passes the 7 NAT5s then he is going abroad for a city break with DH. I asked him how he was feeling about waiting on the results, he seemed non plussed and just gets on with his day. I am not sure if he will let us know once he receives the text message, will wait as patiently as I can in the morning 😬

Good luck to all the young people awaiting results 🤞🤞🤞

NicolaSturGONE · 07/08/2023 22:11

I hope everyone and their kids manage to sleep tonight. I'll probably be on here early-ish tomorrow watching the clock!

If he hasn't passed he doesn't get to go?

user143777534 · 07/08/2023 22:23

I told DS yesterday about the change in appeals.

He was very stressed initially about History Higher. He lives for history, but (along with most kids it seems) misinterpreted one of the questions in the exam, so he had been reassuring himself that he could rely on prelim.

He really panicked when I told him, and convinced himself it meant he would get at best a C when he needs an A. I had to remind him that his history teacher already told him he’d only loose 2-3 marks for it.

Worryingly, he then discussed it with his friends who were also all under the impression they could fall back on prelim. School has been making a big deal all year about gathering evidence. I even went back to their reports and it explains the importance of prelim results for appeals. I guess it just meant for “exceptional circumstances” but it wasn’t very clear if that was the case.

Anyway, hopefully it won’t make any difference if they all get good grades!

Yes, that's about the size of it.

Argh. DD didn’t sign up for texts in time so we’ll be waiting for the post. Worried it will be delayed and not turn up for days. We’ve had a lot of problems with the post for months.

We had the same problem last year but our postie was lovely and prioritised delivery of the results envelopes 💖 We had then by about 8, when our normal post would have been 11.

MathsNervous · 07/08/2023 22:30

Our normal post arrives between 1 and 2pm so we are relieved that ds signed up for text service.

Ds did that last year and then was on his own when they arrived because I had to take Dd to hospital! He better have signed up properly now!!

That’s good to hear. Fingers crossed it will be here tomorrow. Bless her, she’s so worried.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 07/08/2023 22:54

Our post is rubbish but the certificate arrived by lunchtime last year.
