So only about 2 months til the final exams so starting a thread to discuss revision, exams etc.

Have any schools released details of easter revision classes yet? I've heard nothing from our school and don't know if they are doing any. If they aren't, I might look at what else is on offer over easter.

My DS has physics on Wednesday then a week until computing. Then he's done. Cannot wait. Been quite stressful!

That's same as my DS. DH and I wishing it was all over, tbh. This has been very stressful. Can't wait until Thursday next week when it's all over.

DS completely lost interest in computing science so getting him to do past papers has been a headache. He can't stand the subject. It's not what he thought it was going to be when he first picked it.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 16/05/2023 09:14

Mine loves computing science thankfully so not anticipating any issues with him getting his head down. He wants to do it at Uni now. Tbh he’s had an amazing and inspiring teacher throughout which I think has really helped.

NicolaSturGONE · 16/05/2023 12:35

DD found business management okay and thinks she's done well enough to get a B so I'm pleased with that as she failed the prelim. I just want a pass for her, especially as she's not taking it to Higher so the grade doesn't really matter.

DD also thought Bus Man paper was ok... it's one of her favourite subjects but a lot of that is down to the teacher, who's unfortunately leaving in the summer to her dismay as she's picked it for higher...other DD Is S3 and also taking Bus Man and is gutted said teacher is leaving.

We’ve still got Mods on Thursday, and then Computing next Thursday. DS is utterly exhausted and can’t wait for it all to be over.

He feels cross with himself for being so tired. I keep explaining to him that such intense periods of mental activity are tiring. Not sure he believes me.

Same here, higher mods and CS. Roll on next Thursday

theferry · 16/05/2023 19:53

DD thought business was OK. She’s not taking it next year so is happy to have it finished. Accountancy next Wednesday and Drama on the 29th. Can’t wait for it to be done. It’s been exhausting for all of us.

Rainbowshit · 17/05/2023 21:11

@MathsNervous how did your DS get on today? My DS said it was "good" but that's his standard answer which could mean anything from dire to amazing. 😂😂

One more to go and it'll be over thank God! Until next year...

He said "alright" when I asked earlier. Not as bad as he thought. Getting him to do past papers for computing science is going to be hard work from tomorrow though 😫

Glad your DS got on fine. They must be all shattered by now. It's a lot of studying for them.

Wishing your DS luck for next Thursday🤞

thaegumathteth · 17/05/2023 22:57

Modern studies is last exam for ds tomorrow. He's tried so hard I'm amazed tbh. He's off then until June 8th

NicolaSturGONE · 18/05/2023 08:06

ha ha, my DD says 'fine' or 'okay' which could also mean anything from 'shit' to 'amazing'. Us parents are stressed enough without trying to interpret their meaning! DD has over a week til Art then D&M. Her BF had Physics yesterday which was 'awful' so at least he was a bit more specific than DD usually is!

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 18/05/2023 08:13

Mods today for DD, then she also has over a week to wait for Art, but she's thankfully not too stressed over that one...then we're done... dreading next year when DS will have first year Uni exams, DD1 Highers and DD2 Nat 5s 🙀

DD2 is struggling massively with anxiety, she has dyslexia... and she is probably autistic too but is too crippled by social anxiety to seek a diagnosis right now...she had a meltdown in school yesterday when she heard she'd failed one of her S3 exams. She aced the rest of them but always focuses on the negative... it's not a subject she wants to carry on with and I'm now debating asking if she can drop it to reduce the pressure next year... poor wee scone

itsalwayscycling · 18/05/2023 08:40

Mine seemed reasonably happy with physics- certainly much better than maths- and that’s him done! Celebratory chippy and beer at the beach with his mates last night but most of them still have computing and/or design to go.

Aurea · 18/05/2023 10:07

My DS did the AH physics yesterday which he found fair. There were 20 marks (out of 155) which he wasn't sure about.

Anyone else do the AH? I'm not sure what qualification level people are talking about.......

Anyway, that's him done at school now. 🎉. Off to Edinburgh Uni next year to study computer science.

Do you mean he doesn't need to go back in to school? My son (S6) has three more weeks of 'study leave', even though he has finished his exams, but they then go back in for two weeks to activities etc. . . . is that not typical?

Aurea · 18/05/2023 12:30

He's just got a prize giving ceremony to attend which is optional on the second last day of term. Otherwise he's free as a bird until September (barring earning money). 😊

My son is s5 but our s6s left before study leave in April and only come in for exams. This seems much more common than s6s going back after exams from friends as well. All the other year groups move up so my son will be s6.

thaegumathteth · 18/05/2023 13:39

@Bluepeach they don't go back here. When they go on study leave that's them done after exams. All the other years move up a year in June anyways.

thaegumathteth · 18/05/2023 13:41

Ds says MS was ok- one of questions was same as last year apparently and second paper was better than first. That's him off for nearly 3 weeks now!

He's updating his CV now for part time jobs!

theferry · 18/05/2023 15:28

DD has to go back to start Highers from 26 April, which is before her last exam on the 29th. I think it’s ridiculous. They won’t even know if they’ve got the grades needed to do Highers!

Chompiemompie · 18/05/2023 16:40

@theferry - agree. dd is starting her highers before her nat 5s finish.
its so different from when i finished - last exam and then 2 weeks of drinking and partying before summer jobs started!!!

user143777534 · 18/05/2023 20:00

Mods Higher apparently “paper 1 was quite good, paper 2 was really good”. Thank god!

Only Comp to go next week now.

Threeboysadogandacat · 18/05/2023 22:59

Ds3 sat Higher Physics yesterday. He knows he made a mistake which will affect several questions but generally felt it went “ok”.

@Aurea ds has been planning to apply to do computer science at Abertay since he was in S2 but this week, decided he would like to go to Edinburgh. He has two cousins there so it would be handy but stiff entry requirements!

Just computer science next week and he’s finished. Our 6th years have already left and Ds will be 6th year when he goes back.

Aurea · 19/05/2023 07:22

@Threeboysadogandacat

Good luck to your son! Yes, the entrance requirements for Edinburgh are very high and I don't think they are lowered unless you are contextual.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 19/05/2023 08:07

Mine said mods higher was good.

just computing next week

so far he feels the only one which hasn’t gone well was English due to the Liz Lochhead poem
