😆😆

Just looked on Twitter. Ross Greer saying city poorer without Mhairi. Random person responds that the city is poorer with you Ross. Spot on!

Blimeyherewegoagain · 06/05/2022 21:38

Well the people get what the people vote for. 🤷‍♀️

Dinoteeth · 07/05/2022 08:16

Can I moan that people don't really understand the voting system?

It seems weird that people are being elected on 6th choice votes over other people's 1st choice.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/05/2022 08:34

Well it's more basic than that isn't it, looks like people believe the tories are a party of govt here based on the results! Glad to see good news for Scottish Labour though.

WouldBeGood · 07/05/2022 08:59

I agree @Dinoteeth Doesn't seem
right.

I think that a lot of people think they have to rank ALL the candidates in order of preference. Whereas in fact it's perfectly acceptable just to vote for 1 or 2.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 07/05/2022 10:28

When I was in the polling staff were explaining it all to an older man who was saying ‘and I rank them all..’ so there is definitely an element of this.

I’m not looking forward to the SNP’s inevitable gloating over the result but I actually do see some positives. Looking at first preference votes if you combine the nationalist vote it’s around 10 points lower than the unionist vote so no overwhelming support for Indyref or independence. (Obviously people vote on all kinds of issues, but the SNP have a habit of taking their electoral success as a ‘clear mandate’ for Indyref so it’s useful if the numbers aren’t in their favour.) I’m also really heartened to see Labour and the Lib Dems coming back, not just in Scotland but all over the UK and hope they can get some momentum up. The biggest selling point the SNP has, in the absence of a track record of competence, is that they’re not Toaries, as you saw with the ‘send Boris a message’ campaign this time (even though Boris has fuck all to do with running any services in Scotland). Not being Labour/Lib Dems doesn’t have the same gut appeal.

boobashka · 07/05/2022 10:43

Good analysis @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us.

WouldBeGood · 07/05/2022 12:26

i agree too @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

i think there might be hope…

OP posts:
9765abc · 07/05/2022 19:18

There is definitely hope. Most of the councils are still No Overall Control which I hadn't realised was the case from last time when the Conservatives were the 2nd biggest party behind the SNP. Turnout was low too. Happily 3 out of my 4 preferences elected a councillor. I only ranked Conservative/LibDem and Labour.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/05/2022 19:35

Definitely hope - my first choice Lib Dem who is amazing elected at stage 1, then the Tory (who is also decent as a local councillor) and the SNP elected at stage 7!! So really, it's all closely fought.

mapleleavesreturn · 07/05/2022 19:42

Some of the edinburgh wards went from electing someone stage 1, to stage 11 or stage 13 before someone else is elected.

Scottishskifun · 09/05/2022 15:00

Huge rail against SNP MSP saying abortion vigils weren't intimidating and that abortion "is seldom essential or vital"........ wtaf!

It's never a man's place to comment on what a woman decides is best for her body let alone a member of scottish parliament! Absolutely bloody disgraceful!

titsintiers · 09/05/2022 17:47

Surely the fingertip feminist will condemn this horseshit

mapleleavesreturn · 09/05/2022 19:02

And she did - it's a shame her policies aren't as on message as her rhetoric!

WouldBeGood · 09/05/2022 22:35

I’m railing about herself flying to the US to talk about climate change….

I seriously hope taxpayers are not paying for any of her trips abroad.
Here's some hope from Scotland In Union on her demanding another neverendum:
'This is despite the fact that last week’s results returned more pro-UK councillors (583 Labour/Conservatives/Liberal Democrats) than those who support breaking up the UK (488 SNP/Green).

WouldBeGood · 10/05/2022 08:00

Oh, I think we will be, judging by this, although it appears also to be a trip to support the “building of a successful country.” 🙄

I think I read that there's a bill going through the UK parliament that will prevent the Scottish Government from wasting tax payers money on things that are beyond their competence, as I presume all these international jaunts are. No doubt there'll be some gnashing of teeth over it, but personally I'd much rather they concentrated on their actual jobs and our money was spent on making life daily better. Perhaps they could address the crumbling NHS instead of building an international profile on the off chance we ever become independent.

KnitPurlKnitPurl · 10/05/2022 12:00

Still here in the corner quietly whinging about covid. Visited a local council building today to consult some records for a piece of work i'm doing for a client. Appointments have to be made in advance. Sanitise your hands. Then wash your hands as they don't want the sanitiser on the old paper. 🙄Then sit, socially distanced from the one other person in the room, by a large window which is open to let a force 8 gale rattle through it, all the time wearing your mask - which isn't optional BTW, you "must" wear it unless exempt. One way arrows marked on floor.

These public sector people/bodies are NEVER going to accept that Covid is here to stay.

WouldBeGood · 10/05/2022 12:39

Oh, @KnitPurlKnitPurl that’s so depressing! Wr worth a rail

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us I do hope so.. it’s not right for money to be wasted on this pointless self promotion when things are so bad here. And no one in the big wide world gives a fuck what Ms Sturgeon thinks or does
