No day stats yet but they sneaked this in ...

From 27 December, groups of up to three households can meet but must keep at least one metre distance.

This applies to indoor and outdoor public settings, such as bars, restaurants, theatres, music venues, cinemas and gyms.

How’s that going to work if you meet friends for dinner..??

mibbelucieachwell · 27/12/2021 15:34

I think each group must keep a one metre distance from each other group? @WouldBeGood

WouldBeGood · 27/12/2021 15:52

So, if I met two friends we’d need to sit one metre apart from each other? 🤣

mapleleavesreturn · 27/12/2021 15:55

There's got to be some comedy in these ever changing ridiculous guidance rules hasn't there? Let me know if anyone's seen any good skits on it. Maybe it's too soon.

Scottishskifun · 27/12/2021 16:33

Yeah that's going to work......

Did see the high numbers reported on BBC and NS declaring she was right.....but given tests were taking days to come back I do wonder how many of them were a result of the labs being busy one friend was 4 days! It would be the same total number over the week but less daily figures!

Must say on another English visit there is caution but it feels less gloom and doom!

mibbelucieachwell · 27/12/2021 16:36

No. Each table must be a metre apart I think.

No need to bring your megaphone. But don't give NS any ideas.

So sorry for everyone with disrupted plans.

ecceromani · 27/12/2021 17:04

Well if the predictions were right we should see a big increase in hospital numbers now. It's over 10 days since case numbers rose substantially so that should now be translating into hospital cases

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 27/12/2021 17:14

I saw some commentary on Twitter earlier indicating that the hospital data isn’t looking bad, which is consistent with England not introducing any new rules before the new year. The provisional case numbers for England and Scotland are interesting too. Scotland’s are up substantially (although still not as high as I expected tbh, and may be partly delayed data coming through) while England’s are stable or dropping slightly (usual caveats about holiday data, but regardless doesn’t seem to be shooting way higher than last week). This might be consistent with England, or certainly London, peaking/plateauing at the end of last week as some suggested they were. I think it will be interesting to see what happens to Scotland over the next week, but I suspect England and Scotland will follow similar trajectories independent of any additional rules, sorry ‘protections’ up here.

Scottishskifun · 27/12/2021 17:17

I can't see businesses fully enforcing it nor council departments as long as tables in general are separate!
I think the legislation behind forcing businesses to do so is ropey at best! No doubt the busibodies will be out in force reporting places though!

I can't get my head around the fact that 1 in 10 people in London had covid last week ( ONS).
ecceromani · 27/12/2021 17:33

I am going out to a restaurant in a group of 4 friends on 30th.
If asked we will say we are 3 households. They will probably know we aren't but if we say we are that will tick the box.
We will all do LFTs before we go.
I'm not going to crowded places but I'm certainly not going back to not seeing friends and family again.
Definitely not, we're all triple jaggedAngry

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 27/12/2021 17:49

I know @StarryEyeSurprise, it seems mad! I think it speaks to exactly how mild this is at this point that so many people can be infected and yet hospitalizations are remaining stable. Bodes well for the rest of the country if this holds true.

Link to some numbers from last few days.

runningpink · 27/12/2021 17:59

Oh and can I rail at how shockingly bad the tv has been over Christmas!

Scottishskifun · 27/12/2021 18:25

London does also have one of the lowest vaccination rates in the UK though so wouldn't get a booster.

London have faired well in delta wave due to previous immunity from infection but that protection is much lower for omicron going by the data coming out.

Haudyourwheesht · 27/12/2021 19:47

@runningpink

I know. It's almost becoming a parody of itself. Soaps, GBBO, Strictly, Mrs Brown and Morecambe and Friggin Wise! Could not be worse if they tried.

It's always the same. I'm impressed you expected anything better!!
rookiemere · 27/12/2021 21:07

@runningpink shouldn't your tv complaints be in the railing thread Wink.

In NS' defence (which is a pretty unusual position for me), I think she did say that the numbers would have been much higher had people not kept to the restrictions.
Scottishskifun · 28/12/2021 10:13

@haudyourwheesht it was the proclamation that the tidal wave was here (despite still not translating to hospital figures) and its because everyone is doing as their told which got my goat! The biggest impact of this current wave is the sodding isolation rules for Scotland.

Did see a interesting statement on BBC page this morning....

Prof Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, told BBC Breakfast that in time people with Covid should be allowed to "go about their normal lives" as they would with a common cold.
"If the self-isolation rules are what's making the pain associated with Covid, then we need to do that perhaps sooner rather than later," he said.

What are the chances of NS adopting that though.........

mibbelucieachwell · 28/12/2021 10:29

Quite!

In the US asymptomatic positive cases will be allowed to go out and about after 5 days.

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2021 10:57

That’s strange isn’t it, as the US has been pretty bonkers. But it’s really good they’re actually responding to common sense, science, and presumably the need to keep society running
