Still good news on Omicron. Very much milder and pushing Delta out as the main strain. New figures out are saying that now only 29% of those with covid in hospital are being treated for covid and not something else.

ecceromani · 28/12/2021 16:22

Oh wow that's quite a statistic @ElephantOfRisk Where did you see that?
It's usually been about 75% in hospital for covid treatment and they other 25% in for something else

ElephantOfRisk · 28/12/2021 16:43

Yes i thought it was about 70 before. It was a Dr in a clip DH sent me that was quoting recently released figures from UK HSA based on the 8000 patients in hospital.

ecceromani · 28/12/2021 18:11

They've just said on 6 o clock news that most hospital admissions are with covid rather than because of covid.
And the main issue with nhs is the number of staff having to isolate

WouldBeGood · 28/12/2021 18:35

Fuckin hell @ElephantOfRisk, so we’re all locked up for that 🙄

dancemom · 29/12/2021 14:48

• 15,849 new cases of COVID-19 reported*
• 63,238 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results*
â—¦ 28.9% of these were positive
• 3 new reported death(s) of people who have tested positive
• 36 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 679 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed COVID-19
• 4,380,108 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination, 4,009,886 have received their second dose, and 2,901,719 have received a third dose or booster.
*There continues to be large volumes of tests being processed by labs; this and the festive period have impacted turnaround times for results. The figures being reported today will include a backlog from before Christmas. We are starting to see improvements in turnaround times, and continue to monitor the situation.

Thank you @dancemom . I heard the number of cases during the FM's briefing but didn't read the PHS numbers today. I'm encouraged to see from your post that this apparently huge jump includes a backlog from previous days.

[[https://t.co/4GmCpmMpmT Interesting interview with Humza on the Nine last night]] and in this clip he's asked about incidental hospital admissions. Apparently around 50% of COVID patients in London are incidentals, obviously a huge proportion and he's asked whether the same sorts of proportions are present in Scotland. He essentially evades the question and waffles about wanting PHS to publish the data first. However, since even as recently as this week NS has been perfectly happy to share provisional figures, I'm fairly confident that if the answer supported their narrative we'd be hearing all about it. I can't decide whether this is a deliberate ploy to deceive (because if we are in the same situation as London and hospitals aren't overstetched by COVID it indicates that they've overreacted), or whether he just doesn't know the figures which he also has form for (remember the whole 'children are being hospitalised because of COVID' controversy).

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 11:37

I think all of that @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us. I watched that clip this morning.

The figures in general (not just London) were apparently only 29% of people in hospital with covid were being treated because they had covid.

ecceromani · 30/12/2021 11:42

I don't have a problem with them publishing the number of hospital beds taken up by people with covid as this has direct impact on the functioning of the nhs eg. a cardiac ward with 5 covid positive patients and 15 negative, can you use the same staff???

But Govs are intentionally misleading the people with their presentation of the stats to further their agenda of spreading fear and panic as a method of control.
They want us to believe that X number of people in the country are so ill with covid that they had to go to hospital.

It's interesting that the press are finally holding them to account on this, and I wonder whether it's because press are now keen for data to prove omicron is less serious?
It was even a main feature on 6
o clock news this week that most hospital admissions in England were with Covid rather than because of covid

dancemom · 30/12/2021 15:00

• 16,857 new cases of COVID-19 reported*

Hospital numbers up 270 on a week ago (but how many are incidental positive tests rather than admitted because of covid)
Interestingly ICU numbers lower than a week agoHmm

ElephantOfRisk · 30/12/2021 18:55

We'd expect the number of people in hospital for any reason to be higher in winter, covid is endemic in the community hence more people in hospital will be there with a postive covid test regardless of why they are in.

rookiemere · 30/12/2021 22:38

@ecceromani I may be clutching at straws here, but I understand that omicron has much shorter hospital stays and much more treatable than the other strains. I hope this holds true .

dancemom · 31/12/2021 14:01

• 11,962 new cases of COVID-19 reported*

Numbers are all over the place. I would say that half the folk I know have Covid right now.

neveradullmoment99 · 31/12/2021 14:39

@titsintiers

Half will also not be wanting to jeopardise their New Year by testing so I think they will be largely inacurate.
Haudyourwheesht · 31/12/2021 15:10

I know more people with covid now than at any other time during the past two years. I suspect I may get it this time.

mibbelucieachwell · 31/12/2021 16:11

Me three Grin

Sometime in the next 6 weeks would be optimal before my boosted immunity starts to decline.

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 31/12/2021 16:36

Me four. No idea how we've managed to dodge it thus far, and as my work has just chosen to not engage with the work from home thing again...well, it can't be long. The first day the kids come home from school they'll surely be walking vectors.

Scottishskifun · 31/12/2021 17:57

😂 show offs! Just kidding!
Hope you all continue to avoid it from friends who have come down with omicron though I think I would have preferred that to alpha purely based on it doesn't seem to effect the lungs as badly!

I'm sure we will likely get it again via DS if like last time he won't even show symptoms!

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 31/12/2021 18:17

its a miracle no one on my side of the family has gotten it, nor me, DH or DD. DD has been going to school, DH is a key worker and DF refuses to let NS take away his freedom and has been going everywhere he likes.

BIL and his kids have it though so unless we keep away from them, we might get it via them.

dancemom · 01/01/2022 20:20
