On empathy:

James Melville on Twitter:
"The forest was shrinking because the trees were being cut by the axe. But the trees kept voting for the axe because its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them".

Ruth getting torn into her about the vaccines again and pulling her up on her "hissy fit" comment.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 20/01/2021 12:39

Is that something like 25k vaccines delivered yesterday? It's definitely improving.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 20/01/2021 12:39

Oh cross-posted with NS, she just said it...

Invisimamma · 20/01/2021 12:45

@rookiemere it's not just homeschooling and working that is impossible, it's the working a childcare combination.

I have considered getting signed off but that would just dump my workload on my lovely line manager who also has 2 aged primary dc and I don't think that's fair to do. We're a small workplace and there is nobody else to cover my job. I can't get furlough because the post is publicly funded.

Peppafrig · 20/01/2021 12:47

Numbers back up to 1600 and 92 dead

Rae36 · 20/01/2021 12:49

Who's wrong about vaccine delivery-Nicolas or Ruth? Either there's a massive stockpile not making it to gp surgeries or not.

NearWildHeaven · 20/01/2021 12:50

@StatisticallyChallenged

Well indeed, a deep breath before bellowing is beneficial
Just catching up. Is it wrong that this made me burst out laughing?! Thank you. Needed that

Again open honest conversation, if you knew it was long term 2/3 months companies could look at getting in temp staff to help cover furlough take the pressure off.
Instead people are managing on 'I'll cope for a week', 'it's only another 2 weeks'.

People can run full pelt for a short sprint, you need a different strategy for a marathon.

Waverless · 20/01/2021 13:13

I know people who used AL to cover the 3 in service days at the start of term, who are currently WFH. That wasn't fair to let them think that was a good use of precious AL when potentially months of homeschooling lie ahead.

How on earth people are managing when they can't WFH is utterly beyond me!

Deep breaths

Compared to a senior politician who still goes out to work every day, still meets and talks to different people, has staff to fix their dodgy Internet, has access to a printer and someone to buy and replace the ink when it runs out.
And gets paid their salary regardless
Most of them haven't had a proper job never mind ran a business,so they don't fully appreciate what they are doing when they are destroying businesses throughout the country

And destroying children's education

I’m using A/L to try and juggle days with my husband to look after our toddler.

It’s utterly soul destroying. I now have 8 days left😔

WouldBeGood · 20/01/2021 13:43

I really don’t know how people are supposed to manage.

I’m lucky as I work very part time from home and my boy is older, but I wouldn’t be able, because of the nature of my work, to do it with children around.

Invisimamma · 20/01/2021 13:48

Exactly lockdownbear! Treat is like the grown ups we are and let us makes plans and decisions for our families, rather than this 2 weeks at a time nonsense.

Bytheloch · 20/01/2021 14:04

@Dinnafashyersel yes, saw that as I follow JM. Spot on.

Bytheloch · 20/01/2021 14:11

In lighter news, the local bakery has had to start serving at the door only so they could sell hot pies, sausage rolls etc. Not allowed to sell anything hot to customers walking into the shop (I.e. a bakery) as that counted as takeaway🧐
So the Council has now redefined them as takeaway premises, as opposed to a shop selling essential goods. I thought this was a community myth until I just saw the queue of people outside at lunchtime.
Who says anyone is making this stuff up as they go along...?🤪

Dinnafashyersel · 20/01/2021 14:17

I had never even thought about that BytheLoch. Surely that means the supermarket chains all need a kiosk window outside for their readymade sandwich aisle and rotisserie chicken? Grin

No idea why I'm laughing cos it's really not funny. Suffice to say it is deemed safe to walk in masked single file to the butcher or the paper shop but not the chip shop in between.

Bytheloch · 20/01/2021 14:34

It’s most bizarre, especially since there’s a deli opposite them which sells bread and sandwiches etc. You can still go inside and buy bread there and other things you can ‘takeaway’ then presumably eat in the street/back in your car.🧐

So at least that will ‘telt’ the folk who want some warm lunch on a winter day or some essential bread, you can all stand outside in the cold and mix with others in a queue, for your sinsHmm

I think it's because you might get accidentally happy eating hot food that you've not had to cook and we all know that covid spreads more when people are happy.

I think the only solution is to go down the route of those free school lunch parcels. We all get air dropped by Amazon drone, a parcel of food for the week that fits with scot.govs ideal diet. We pay extra in taxes to cover it and we get Nicola doing a daily recipe broadcast to tell us what to do with what we've had delivered. Everyone the same, everyone equal, (no alcohol or cigarettes) does away with all shops and all need for interaction. Clothes will be delivered quarterly depending on the season. Gifts are banned so is Halloween, Easter, Eid, Diwali and Christmas and birthdays.

Having tasty hot soup as you walk in the pishing rain, not having a conversation with another human, can indeed bring on happiness, which as we know- from our year’s worth of learning- spreads Covid.

Dinnafashyersel · 20/01/2021 14:49

On a more positive note NRS total reported deaths for week ending 17 Jan of 1,534 is in line with the 5 year average of 1,560. They are also down from last week (1,704), which looks to be a distortion due to Bank holidays.

(You wouldn't know this from the BBC who stuck with the more scary 92 Covid deaths in a day backed up by 368 in the week per NRS).

On a more depressing note the BBC also didn't comment on the return to the underlying trend of hospital deaths 62 below (-8%) and care home deaths 65 (-18%) below but home deaths 101 above (+25%). That looks more like a health service underperforming than one under strain.

Dinnafashyersel · 20/01/2021 14:58

Wax don't give her ideas. Shock

I do wonder if being a politician makes you miserable. I wouldn't swap with NS. I am roughly the same age with the same degree from the same background. I wouldn't swap.

DD3 is busy designing jigsaws for me to complete. The sealife took me half an hour and now I have a flower shop. So much better for my MH than justifying my deaths and "dozing" stats daily.

For anyone struggling with a full house like us recommend at least trying to regiment some group tea breaks etc rather than everyone being in an isolated guddle all the time. DH just arrived for his shot at the jigsaw and a biscuit.

And @WaxOnFeckOff please ask MN to delete your post lest it be used as a blueprint for future SG plans 😂
