Really hope to hear some news on nurseries tomorrow 😕

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/01/2021 16:17

They are on the BBC every fecking day, preaching at us. In which world does that translate to being "left out"?

Because they'd view that as Scotgov being on telly and not the SNP...Obviously playing games since I think the other parties were complaining to someone official about the daily PPB.

Home schooling getting a bit wearing here too. DS given up on the prescribed work (Scots poetry and Burns night - again) and has gone to read Harry Potter instead. Can't say I blame him ...

Family who live in England and are eligible for the vaccine have now had 1st dose - MiL in her 80s had hers yesterday at local community hospital, cousin mid 20s had hers at work (NHS) before Xmas and auntie last week (also NHS). From talking with friends their 80+ family have already had vaccine too.

I'd live too as well but I think we can dream on.
NotAnActualSheep · 18/01/2021 16:26

That's crazy! So the FM no longer speaks for the SNP so they have to have another slot to give the SNPs view of what the FM has said?!

I thought the BBC had (quite rightly) changed their approach to give other parties some chance to comment on the FM announcements, and point out where there are problems, how it could/ should have been handled differently. The FM gets her own chance, surely, and she has always said the buck stops with her/ judge on her performance etc! If the briefings were done by an independent person, or just by the civil servants, they would have a point (or even if the SG was a coalition), but seems they are wanting to both have and eat their cake.

Lockdownbear · 18/01/2021 16:26

Makingitup that has too be good news. Surely to god SG can learn something from England.

"However I think she has got everyone switched off from her preaching. Because she gets on the daily soap box nobody listens, most people have switched off to her.
When Boris says he's doing one everyone knows he has something important to say, so actually tune in to listen."

I was thinking exactly this the other day @Lockdownbear. I've completely zoned out from the daily briefing as there is never anything new said and I get the numbers from elsewhere, but when they say Boris is doing one I tune in because they only do that when there's something to say. So these days I hear more about the UK response than the Scottish one, which probably wasn't the intention.

LockdownSucksBalls · 18/01/2021 16:34

I think we all know she is going to extend lockdown tomorrow. If I think about schools I just want to cry. Doing our best to be positive at home but DD just knows she wants to be in school.

I feel at this point we have a vaccine I don't want to hear about "tighter restrictions" or supply issues I was a clear plan with parameters that are achievable. The scope is there to tighten if cases rise again but it should now be a message of dig deep here is how we get out if we all do this.

MissEliza · 18/01/2021 16:48

@Lockdownbear that's exactly right. People assume there's something significant to hear when BJ is coming on TV. I also respect the fact that he doesn't drone on but hands the platform over to the experts. I don't know what she finds to talk about every day. I remember when swine flu first arrived in the U.K. (people weee panicking if you recall) she was constantly popping up on TV, being the health minister at the time. Now in the time of another health crisis but she's no longer the health minister, she's still hogging the limelight. I don't know how she fools so many people.

RaspberryCoulis · 18/01/2021 16:51

I think we all know she is going to extend lockdown tomorrow

Regrettably, very sorry, very tough decisions, unprecedented... yadda yadda yadda.

Things are getting better but not quick enough that they'll relax the restructions they've only just put in.

The charity shop I volunteer in closed in March when the shelves were full of Easter eggs and Mothers Day gifts. Opened again last week in July.

Closed again for three weeks end of November to the middle of December.

Couple of weeks trading until we closed again on Christmas Eve, still with the shelves filled of unsold decorations, cards and gifts which we usually shift half price in January.

We've had so little trading last year, coupled with the silly rules about having to make an appointment to drop stuff off, and quarantining donations for 72 hours, we're really struggling.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 18/01/2021 16:54

It will be very disproportionate if we are locked down further. And it does seem crazy to say schools will be shut until Easter when numbers are coming down, they are pretty much pre-Christmas levels now. I would hope there would be an indication of some kind of a plan for early years and primary but I’m not going to hold my breath! It does seem like the world’s gone mad. At least there’s some sanity on here Grin

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 16:55

I’m just going to skip everything I was going to take to charity shops as my house is too full of clutter. I can’t wait any longer.

Waverless · 18/01/2021 17:11

Another dreading tomorrow's announcement and the BS that will surround it.

I know it's mean but I can't stand the way she says sagrifizis (sacrifices). What bloody sagrifizis is she making?

Perihelion · 18/01/2021 17:11

Numbers are pretty much pre Christmas level, but that's because of lockdown. Open up again too soon, before vaccinations have been done and taken effect and we could have huge growth rate in 3 weeks.
I don't see high schools going back full time, before Easter. Possibly primary in March.

Lockdownbear · 18/01/2021 17:12

I don't remember her on TV at the time. However i do remember having it and every paper being full of stories of young people dying from it or being seriously ill will it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2021 17:14

I could be wrong re schools. Just feel very pessimistic about it as it seems far harder to get things open than to keep them open. Last time childcare was mid July, I think the 14th. The 7 day rate at the start of July was 1.2

Lockdownbear · 18/01/2021 17:22

I'm thinking Easter or maybe mid March if we are very lucky for schools too. Its going to come down to the vaccine roll out and the impact of it.

Cismyfatarse · 18/01/2021 17:23

What were the numbers today being vaccinated?

ladylunchalot · 18/01/2021 17:24

I think the daily briefing would be much better if she had the general public asking the questions and not journo's all the time. Would probably be chaos, but still, much more entertaining.

WouldBeGood · 18/01/2021 17:27

Yes to that @ladylunchalot!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 18/01/2021 17:29

@Cismyfatarse (your username made me smile) Travelling Tabby has it at 265k with just over 40k in the last few days.

I know we're all here worrying about the pace, but a few weeks ago we were nowhere near 40k in a week so there is progress. We just need more!

Lockdownbear · 18/01/2021 17:31

Did they not do 5000 NHS staff on Saturday at the SEC?

runningpink · 18/01/2021 17:35

@groovie how is Mr Groovie today?

ssd · 18/01/2021 17:36

Are we behind on the vaccinations programme? It feels like England is miles ahead?

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2021 17:48

In the time we've done 40k, England has done 750k...
