No real explanation in Devi's article on what happened in the second half of the term except the new variant, amidst the trumpeting about the great situation in the summer.

Should remember that NS allowed October breaks, that's what bothers me about the whole border control re-seeding argument we've heard much about the last couple of months.

Coquohvan · 12/01/2021 19:23

(The First Minister also said that one million people will be vaccinated by the end of January.)

Well I do hope she keeps to her promise of 1m done by month end though today’s totals aren’t heading that way! 178K total 12.5K done yesterday, roughly looking at 43K per day now.

Outsidemum1 · 12/01/2021 19:26

@Rae36

I don't care if it is early days, I just care that someone is giving us a teeny tiny bit of good news.
I saw this yesterday. Cases do seem to be stabilising here.

I hope the schools re opening (for some) doesn't affect the downward trajectory.

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2021 19:39

It won’t matter if they get the vulnerable vaccinated. Then everyone else can just get it

FloraFocus · 12/01/2021 19:45

I'm going to park myself here if you don't mind folks. (Decided to stay local for the foreseeable!)
I'm done catching updates via TV / radio.

titsbumfannythelot · 12/01/2021 19:47

It also really bloody annoys me that having a negative Covid test upon entering the country is a new thing. I mean come on to fuck, that is basic stuff.

WouldBeGood · 12/01/2021 19:48

Hi @FloraFocus 😊

FloraFocus · 12/01/2021 19:49

Thank you. My name change is crap but if I think of a better one I'll tell you!

I'm out of creative thought.

FloraFocus · 12/01/2021 19:50

My kid is taking NAT 5s this year and I thought I'd better focus on what the hell is/ might be happening!

Lockdownbear · 12/01/2021 20:04

1m vaccinated by end of Feb, I'll believe it when I see it.
I saw two pie charts at one point with both England and Scotland they looked about even on the how far through they are but England just seems much more organised. Hubs identified, smaller vaccination centres. Maybe Scotland just isn't getting the info out but at same time she has her soapbox time.

Coquohvan · 12/01/2021 20:20

@Lockdownbear it was her intention to do 1m by end of January.
Like you I have my doubts. Hope to be wrong and she gets her act together. The vaccine numbers are to be included in her daily PPB.

Coquohvan · 12/01/2021 20:24

Vaccines so far per Country.

Thanks for that, interesting to see NI going from bottom to top. Wonder what's going wrong in Wales, they seem to be lagging behind.

I know there's an argument that it's more difficult to do rural areas but really at this stage, ban on, get the big cities and towns done. We know the virus spreads quickly in densely populated deprived areas.
Glasgow has been under restrictions for so long the other areas can wait a wee bit longer if they need to.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 12/01/2021 20:37

FFS just spent 2 hours with DH trying to get MS teams working again. He has declared that the public sector are fuckwits for using such a shitty inaccessible service instead of Google Meets or Zoom.

He's not wrong. MS Teams is utter shit compared to alternatives. Trying to set up a meeting is really complicated but joining one seems easy enough.

Re: home schooling. DD is peed off cause apparently they all need to do online PE. Desk Yoga apparently. I told her to do it with her camera off Wink

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 12/01/2021 20:41

Desk yoga strikes again 😂

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 12/01/2021 20:52

FFS I know, it was bad enough when I had to do it for work, which I gladly got an exit package for. Fuck that. Hope new employer, whoever it is, doesn't bother with such shite.

MissEliza · 12/01/2021 20:52

@Iwillneverbesatisfied our LEA in England chose MS teams as it believed it to be the most secure. I don't know about the alternatives but I'm struggling to get to grips with it in our primary school. Dd has used it in her secondary since June and is very comfy with it. Maybe it takes time to get used to it.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 12/01/2021 21:02

On vaccination, the target of 1M by end of January has already been abandoned and replaced by 560k in the same time frame. Looking at the figures so far I'm not even holding my breath on that one. With 19 days left until the deadline, they need to do an average of 20.2k a day (including weekends) to meet it, and only managed 12.5k today. We already have that amount of vaccine (and expect to have 1M doses by end of the month I think), but we don't appear to have the infrastructure to distribute it ready yet. Hope they get their act together soon.

Cismyfatarse · 12/01/2021 21:07

There seems to be a bit of a PR blitz in Fife with Facebook giving me links to newspapers with lists of vaccine centres. But they are not mass vaccination hubs, just doctors' surgeries on the whole.

Not sure about Dundee, apart from Ninewells but, even there, I think they are mostly doing NHS staff and not the public.

However MiL is getting her jab at the GP tomorrow and so there are a few being done - just not very many. And she is 86 so I think should have been done in December or earlier in January.

Ds P2 teachers are brilliant and doing their absolute best but they don't know how to work Teams properly. 2 classes of 6 year olds who don't mute themselves (and their parents in the background) has been absolute carnage. I'm sure they'll get to grips with it soon. Would it be out of place to send an email letting them know how to use some of the functions like 'mute all' and 'raise hand' or would that be unbelievably cheeky?

I much prefer zoom but I know school has to work with what they've got.

Perihelion · 12/01/2021 21:16

A problem with the big flu vaccination hubs they had in Edinburgh, was that compared to the local GPs, it was harder to access for older people.

MissEliza · 12/01/2021 21:19

@Invisimamma don't the teachers know how to mute the children?! I'm rubbish at tech and I figured that out pretty sharpish!

Outsidemum1 · 12/01/2021 21:32

Yes in Scotland it's a slightly different approach- thousands of vaccination centres instead of less, bigger ones that people need to travel to.
