The bottom line is we rely on road freight, every single truck has the ability to cart covid with it.

If you shut the border, what are you doing with imports and exports?

We aren't NZ, who have limited people arriving by the hour.

ssd · 04/01/2021 22:48
@ssd genuine question, what makes you support this 10 months on when there has been no strategy put in place. In regards to the border, well just close it? I appreciate it may not be that simple but she has stood against Boris in every way.

I honestly don't mean to be nasty I want to see the other side, I see my business done, my degree almost in the toilet and my child missing school with minimal financial support
I dont think its possible to put a strategy in place, the virus is too unpredictable. No one foresaw this south African strain.

I dont know the answer, but I'd rather have NS in charge than Johnson. Or anyone else in Scotland.

Outsidemum1 · 04/01/2021 22:50

She can't close the border as we're not an independent country. At the start of the pandemic , the SG wrote to the UK Gov several times stating the urgent need to restrict travel into the UK. The UK Gov replied each time saying they wouldn't and restrictions weren't put in place until around four to six months in.

The UK Gov have been beyond poor in their handling of the pandemic. Even today- the PM was doing a photoshoot at lunch to tell parents to send their children to school and 8 hours later he's telling us schools are closed ( after forcing them to open for one day post the Christmas break). It's beyond my understanding how a government can be so disorganised.
What's your degree in? And your business- is it too new to receive support? Sorry you're going through hardship.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 22:50

@ssd she’s done pretty much the same as BJ though

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 22:50

Don’t get the NS worship

Coquohvan · 04/01/2021 22:54

@StatisticallyChallenged
Thank you, I guess we will know more as vaccine numbers are listed as we go. 👍

Outsidemum1 · 04/01/2021 23:01

She hasn't done the same as the PM though, has she? He did worse than nothing whilst cases were growing astronomically in the SE.

WouldBeGood · 04/01/2021 23:09

There’s no reasoning 🤷🏻‍♀️ Scotland good, England bad, the usual

Outsidemum1 · 04/01/2021 23:11

Huh? You said the FM has 'done the same as the PM'. He is not 'England'.

Arkadia · 04/01/2021 23:14

Hadn't a thread been started with for the beatification of NS along with the SG singing her praises?

Arkadia · 04/01/2021 23:17

@Outsidemum1

Same here. The stats South of the Border are worse than America I believe so no one should be looking to there as an example of what should be done ( as s*it as it is).
While when the stats were way worse in Scotland everybody was going like "meh..." Maybe we should talk about Wales... Dear me...

"Oh, if only we could have closed our borders for year or so like NZ..."

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 04/01/2021 23:19

Can we have one thread unconditionally loving NS and one unconditionally hating her and keep one fairly neutral commenting only on her decisions?

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 23:22

The amount of positive tests is meaningless now. They are not cases.

@WouldBeGood - here is Ivor's latest update in case you haven't seen it.

Dollybagwash · 04/01/2021 23:28

My degree is in tech my business in dance so two totally opposite ends of the scale. I don't want to debate who done what first it's been done but Why are western countries even using lockdowns? We have tech, we have infrastructure and we have modern ways of life. The "short March lockdown" yes. Now we should be top of the scale in terms of test and protect.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 23:32

Ivor Cummins 🙄🤣

Outsidemum1 · 04/01/2021 23:33

Talk about Wales then? but the PM of Wales isn't the PM of the UK. The fact is we have two governments in charge in the UK and the PM is the leader of our other government. Yes, health is devolved but for example , the UK Gov are in charge of procuring the vaccines I believe.

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 23:35

@Outsidemum1 that's what I've been wondering. Do we have the ability to order our own vaccines? I would have thought so as health devolved but your post is the second I've read to suggest not.

I think it was a - Let's do a UK wide approach and have the UK Gov order the vaccines for the four nations and each would get based on population size. It worries me as they diverted ppe meant for Scotland but I remain hopeful! Time will tell...

Tomorrowisanewday · 04/01/2021 23:39

The procurement was questioned today, Ms Sturgeon said it was a four nation exercise, which makes sense

kurtrussellsbeard · 04/01/2021 23:40

@Outsidemum1 yes I remember that actually. Does make sense. I think it will be allocated fairly.

Outsidemum1 · 04/01/2021 23:42

Yeah I'm sure it will be allocated fairly.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 05/01/2021 00:03

Cunts = people who don't despise the SNP with every fibre of their being and may disagree with Wax's viewpoint.

This isn't billed as a thread for hating the SNP - but that's what much of it actually is. Maybe change the title of the next thread in case any of us cunts sneak in by accident thinking it's actually a discussion about coronavirus restrictions.

Bytheloch · 05/01/2021 00:05

Sigh.
