What are you all doing with your New Year's Day?

We'll go for a walk round mugdock country park and have steak pie later. 4yo ds informs me that he'd also like to play with play doh at some point.

blowinahoolie · 01/01/2021 07:24

Since I can't stay awake to the bells each year, wanted to come on and wish everyone a happy new year for 2021. Let's hope it's better for all of us❤️

blowinahoolie · 01/01/2021 07:28

Not sure what we are doing later, but I do know we will be having steak pie. I fancy a walk but DH not feeling great today so doubtful he will want to head out.

We were absolute rebels yesterday, crossed county lines to pick out our puppy from the breeder. All socially distanced, outdoors, playing with puppies in the snow. DC all had a ball. New puppy coming to us next week 🎉 will bring us some joy for 2021. Can't wait to get stuck in!

WouldBeGood · 01/01/2021 07:54

Ooh, happy new puppy, @blowinahoolie!

Not much doing here today. DCs still at their dad’s so I’m continuing my campaign to catch up on sleep. Will need to get my arse in gear next week! Fat as a pig and lockdown lethargy has set in again.

anon444877 · 01/01/2021 08:37

Happy new year! @blowinahoolie a puppy, that IS a great way to boost new year!

That's it, I'm doing dry January for at least a week now. Thank goodness 2020 is over at last!

Coquohvan · 01/01/2021 08:55

Wishing you all a very Happy & Healthy 2021 🎉
Very quiet in our village when out for our last dog walk last night, first in decades just me and DH at the bells very strange.
Going out for a walk when our steak pie filling is cooked, lovely and frosty out so thermals it’ll be.
Will do a door stop drop off for our children & grandchildren’s nerday gifts, a tradition in our family going back many generations.

blowinahoolie · 01/01/2021 08:56

Thanks WouldBeGood and anon444877 Same here, I have eaten way too much food. Feel it on the waistband 😬 but next week will be too busy toileting a puppy, won't be time to eat rubbish any more. Trying to see the positives 🙌 will have to get all DC to eat whatever is left treat wise. Nursery aged DC keeps asking when he can go to nursery😬

WouldBeGood enjoy the rest when you can get it!

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 01/01/2021 08:56

What's the meaning behind first footing anyway? Is it some kind of good luck thingie? And if I don't bring a bottle o' wine, am I doomed to internal damnation?

anon444877 · 01/01/2021 09:06

@blowinahoolie puppies are excellent for your health, you are certainly going to see the pounds drop off as their general exuberance wears you out and makes you fitter. We're hoping to get on the list for a puppy about summer time.

Just coming up for a year since we lost our lovely old dog and I'm limbering up for the puppy challenge. If you haven't seen the series puppy love it was brilliant, I wish they'd made more.

Happy new puppy, I am hoping that we can get one too this year.

@Iwillneverbesatisfied. We explained to our french neighbours the meaning off Hogmanay was translated to mean
Haudmeup. :-)

Groovee · 01/01/2021 10:47

@Coquohvan 😂😂 oh that's tickled me

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2021 11:12

Happy steak pie day everyone, lots of lovely plans and tales of new puppies when checking in today. Smile

I have no plans, stayed up til near 5 thus morning "debating" the state of the world with my boys. DH went to bed just after the bells so was up being noisy before 9. I sense a nap coming on later which I think will be the extent of my activity today.

Aurea · 01/01/2021 11:19

Pic of puppy, pretty please. 🥰

Our dogs give so much joy to our lives ATM (and always).

Dinnafashyersel · 01/01/2021 12:01

Happy New Year all!

Impressed with the puppy commitment. I am friends with all the neighbours' 4 legged pals. Most of the reward with hardly any of the work - not sure it is a fair trade as I am the one with the children to keep them all entertained.

Broken out the 1,000 piece family jigsaw.

Off to factcheck the translation of Hogmanay which I haven't heard before.

shouldistop · 01/01/2021 12:15

Nice to read everyone's plans or not plans.

We had a 2 hour walk, the weather is beautiful. Just finished a fry up for lunch about to make myself a huge mug of tea while my newborn is sleeping and 4yo entertained by Thomas the tank engine.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/01/2021 12:31

Going to need puppy photos! My cats hace definitely helped us stay sane.

We're playing the fun game today of trying to guess what keyworker school/care the council are going to offer, and therefore what we can or should do. It's like trying to count sand Confused

runningpink · 01/01/2021 12:51

The bloody fireworks were going off like crazy around here.
Early evening and then seemed to go on forever at midnight so needless to say I’m shattered!
I have done my NYD run though so will probably be sat in front of tv rest of the day!
Enjoy your steak pies everyone. Wishing I was organised and had got one as well now!

fluffyugg · 01/01/2021 13:20

@blowinahoolie a new puppy is such an exciting way to start the year...what breed is it?

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2021 13:43

Off to factcheck the translation of Hogmanay which I haven't heard before.

I was watching the drone show that they've done and Hogmanay was translated as Homme et ne. Man is Born.

anon444877 · 01/01/2021 13:58

I saw that too wax and then read the newsround which doesn't mention that so clearly it has a somewhat disputed origin!

Bikingbear · 01/01/2021 14:18

Happy New Year.
Yes to puppy picture.

I've a friend whose provided many hours of entertainment this year via FB with her new Puppy!

Never heard of a meaning behind Hogmanay, but I have heard it called Auld years nig't, makes me wonder if Hogmanay could come from Gaelic and been bashed about a bit.
