About to embark on my 2m cracker... Wish me luck 🤞

anon444877 · 24/12/2020 15:59

Good luck!! we've been dancing festively and had a total fail on a gingerbread recipe this afternoon.

I'm just trying to decide if 5.25 is too early to put the children to bed. Managed to ignore today's briefing so hopefully that will set the pattern for the rest of the holidays.

Arkadia · 24/12/2020 18:11

Just been to the supermarket for the customary yellow sticker bonanza and saw the 6 pm bell ringing. What in earth is that about?

This is a bit like asking if it's too early to have a drink. Never too early but there may be some consequences Wink

Too early for bed unless you want woken up at 4 am.

Mind you I understand some kids do wake up that early, TF not mine.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 24/12/2020 18:32

We go the other way with bedtimes - I figure they won’t sleep anyway so they go to bed a bit late Xmas Grin (but they also have stockings downstairs & we all go together so they don’t get up at the crack of dawn anyway)

I saw some graffiti today that made me think of you lot “Sturgeon Granny Killer” - not exactly a subtle message Xmas Grin

anon444877 · 24/12/2020 19:06

If they're going to be up at 4 regardless, might as well send them to bed ASAP!

My youngest is so excited, I hope she drops off.

For balance, my SIL and my sister have regaled me this year with what a great job they think NS is doing - not comments welcomely received by me!

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/12/2020 19:10

depending on the age of the DC a little alcohol can help...

When mine were little, wake up was usually about 8am. Now it's about 1pm. We had one year when they were about 10ish when it was half 5 and that was after sending them back twice. Also coincided with the year that we'd had to stay up until 2am wrapping eughhh, never again.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 24/12/2020 19:20

That's them away now, so I made it an extra two hours. The wine helped. And we rang a bell. I was never a clapper, but nursery gave us bells so what the hell.

The big one did say, ominously, as I left the room 'I won't come down to see Santa'. Confused

Apparently this was some shit thought up that people would stand on their doorstep and ring bells so that the kiddies would know Santa was on his way Grin
Arkadia · 24/12/2020 20:54

@RaraRachael, yes, so it seems (I googled it). There was this cluster of bells just outside my Morrisons which took me by surprise. After that I just saw the occasional bell.

WouldBeGood · 24/12/2020 21:12

We did the bells and it was lovely

Perihelion · 24/12/2020 21:24

Gibbons that's a brilliant idea doing the stocking before bed...could have saved myself years of exhausted Christmases.
Although for DD, until teenage hood, 6am was a lie inHmm.

Bikingbear · 24/12/2020 21:24

2x 2m crackers made, one is about 20cm too short whoops Elf made a mistake.

Just need to wait until tomorrow to see how well they crackGrin

runningpink · 24/12/2020 21:39

Didn't notice any bells here. Forgot about it.
Have a great Christmas everyone!

Oh no I’m sorry I worded it poorly - they would never sleep after opening stockings! I just meant that stockings are downstairs & we all go down together to open them in the morning. (The most important bears have their own wee stockings too Xmas Hmm)

Show us Biking!!

I can’t believe how relaxed I feel - I have done less food prep than normal, kids are still awake, nothing is wrapped yet & I am still in the middle of sewing one gift but it’s just us tomorrow so no one will judge me Xmas Grin

polarisation · 24/12/2020 23:09

BBC has caught up on the tartan onesies... bbc.in/38n7sOY

polarisation · 25/12/2020 00:28

Sliding to the finish line at 12.20am... I realised I had nothing to put inside it so I put in the regular crackers I'd already bought 😂 it's... rustic, but almost exactly 2m long. Pass the Wine

Brilliant polar!

I’m about to head to bed Xmas GrinBrew
Have a lovely Christmas Day everyone

Groovee · 25/12/2020 07:38

Dh isn't well. I'm scared he's really poorly with a gall bladder issue or indigestion and he's kept me up all night. Have taken dd to work as she got a job in a care home and they've asked her to go on the bank. So she's working today.

I'm going back to bed before I get my mum over. Local restaurant delivered Christmas dinner yesterday so have that to organise later.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

WouldBeGood · 25/12/2020 07:46

Oh, no @Groovee.

What’s happening with your DH? Hope he’s ok
