Hospitality restrictions extended today and a 5 tier system?

Why not just have the same as England? Why is she insisting on harsher lockdowns then blaming Westminster for no funding.

Edinburgh and Glasgow will be like ghost towns soon. I’m sure more than 50% of bars and restaurants won’t re-open.

Are you all following the restrictions ( question for the central belters) ?

Whatever.

No foot stomping here. Just a rapidly-growing dissatisfaction with how this is being handled and less of a willingness to comply with their arbitrary, sweeping restrictions.

thaegumathteth · 21/10/2020 18:42

I've no seen any evidence at all over the past 2 months that show schools as the issue. However there's also a lag in infection so any slow down of infection caused by schools being on holiday wouldn't be showing yet.

grumplass · 21/10/2020 18:47

@RaspberryCoulis
Yes numbers were low over the summer
They stayed low longer in Scotland than in England because we stayed in lockdown for longer
That meant we could open schools
As everyone was screaming to get them open and outraged by blended learning
Then we had eat out to help out and students going back to uni

We always knew it was going back up in the autumn but no one wanted to listen

So here we are just like everyone else in Europe.
NS is doing what she can.
Be glad you don't live in NI or Eire what would you make of that.

SBTLove · 21/10/2020 18:55

That old argument of whatever 🤣🤣
Poor raspberry; working from home, having her holidays, how put upon are you.😭
My DP is self employed and has lost £10,000s, thankfully has secured a job now, never once have we whined about any of the restrictions, needs must.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 19:06

You actually have no idea of anyone's personal circumstances though, do you @SBTLove? No idea.

And i don't feel inclined to explain mine to some random nicola-worshipper on an anonymous forum.

grumplass · 21/10/2020 19:12

@SBTLove hasn't said anything you haven't told her @RaspberryCoulis

Nicola Sturgeon threads surely bring out all the unionist trolls
"They don't like it up em"and

grumplass · 21/10/2020 19:13

"They don't like it up em" springs to mind ( posted too soon )

RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 19:15

It's the "how put upon are you" - she literally has no idea.

Also I wasn't aware that not professing your undenying devotion to the Great Leader rendered you a "troll".

Nice.

Is Wales purposefully doing the opposite of England?

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 19:24

What the beef with "pavement cafes"?

Let's see evidence of transmission. All the reports I have seen have said (besides people hugging and dancing together) indoor/ in vehicle transmission drives this pandemic.

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 19:25

What's not what.

PaddyF0dder · 21/10/2020 19:33

Sectarianism is a hell of a drug.

MadameBlobby · 21/10/2020 19:35

I thought she was doing a good job at the start but she’s just power crazed now. Shutting down people’s works with no evidence that this is driving the spread whilst ignoring the elephant in the room of schools and universities. For some reason people must love it though as she’ll probably win a landslide next year.

Scotslassie1 · 21/10/2020 19:36
  1. We are more in line with the majority- NI, Wales, Ireland.
  2. The UK had 3rd? 4th? highest excess deaths from covid in the first wave. Let's not repeat that.
  3. I'm in Central belt. Work in area with v high prevalence of covid. None in my town for a few weeks at least ( since I started checking).
  4. I've not had anyone round since before March, not been to any restaurants or pubs
  5. The people on here who are saying it's terrible re hospitality staying shut were, I'm sure, stating 'Glasgow should be shut down. . Queues of people at pubs etc etc a few weeks ago.
  6. Both myself and hubs are key workers so we can't stay at home..we've been lucky not to have been ill , the thought terrifies me as I have three young children who are exhausting at the best of times!
  7. I know the Tory tactic is to go on about the 'defisive SNP' but I'm SO glad we have a FM who shows compassion and understanding and works her backside off for Scotland.
RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 19:39

I DO have a "beef" with the restrictions! They are based on poor science, and poor reasoning. We are being sent conflicting messages and being asked to comply without them actually telling is what we're trying to achieve. Is it save the NHS? or is it get zero cases? Or is it get it to some undefined number? Who knows.

Shut down hospitality because Covid is being spread at houseparties. Shut down the NHS and then wonder why nobody's referring themselves for cancer treatment. Tell people that they can't visit their parents, but it's fine to meet friends. Have your pre-booked holiday, but don't travel if it's not "essential". The entire thing is contradictory and a complete mess from start to finish.

I have SO many issues with the handling of this that it's impossible to know where to start. But if all you want to take from it is my intense dislike for Sturgeon, crack on.

Scotslassie1 · 21/10/2020 19:39

BilboBercow I tlknow its hard for you to understand but Wales ( and Ni, Ireland and Scotland for that matter) make decisions which benefit the people they've been elected to serve. I noticed the Tory press said the FM had 'small man syndrome. Hmm

MadameBlobby · 21/10/2020 19:40

@Meepmeeep

I just don’t understand why she immediately shut down Aberdeen earlier in the year for a very, very small number of cases compared to the numbers currently being seen in Glasgow. Yet she took weeks to order tighter restrictions there.
It’s obvious why. Glasgow is SNP. Aberdeen isn’t.

I honestly thought she was doing a good job in the summer. But it’s now clear that keeping the restrictions in place longer than England have done no good at all.

MadameBlobby · 21/10/2020 19:41

And yes I am still complying with restrictions. Many of them I guess we have no choice in. I’m basically a rule follower tho

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 19:43

A previous post was blaming the rising cars on people mixing in their homes and having the brass neck to sit out at pavement cafes.

I just thought it a bit of a stretch to assess these at the same level of risk. Very odd.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 19:43

Well quite, @MadameBlobby. I wear a face covering not because I think there's a real risk of catching anything in Tesco or passing non-existent covid to anyone else, but because I don't want a fine.

grumplass · 21/10/2020 19:44

I have started a new thread here

Please add your support for an independent Scotland www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet/4057172-please-add-your-support-for-an-independent-scotland

I fully expect it to get taken down but would be good if people who could comment in support would do so.

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 19:44

Rising cars =rising cases.

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 19:47

I'm following the rules too.
Doesn't mean we can't maintain critical faculties..

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 19:48

I do think there was a hesitation on shutting down Glasgow compared with Aberdeen for example.
