Hospitality restrictions extended today and a 5 tier system?

Why not just have the same as England? Why is she insisting on harsher lockdowns then blaming Westminster for no funding.

Edinburgh and Glasgow will be like ghost towns soon. I’m sure more than 50% of bars and restaurants won’t re-open.

Are you all following the restrictions ( question for the central belters) ?

Yip. 23 foreign fishermen tested positive. They've not entered the country, must stay at a port and quarantine.

2 cases in the community. 2. No lockdown.

grumplass · 21/10/2020 20:56

@Svelteinmydreams ok... I can't have a thread asking about independence without people piling on but it's perfectly fine for @Malachite234 to be upset when nationalists disagree with her thread criticising NS.

Californiabakes · 21/10/2020 20:56

I’m in the central belt and following all the rules.

MissEliza · 21/10/2020 20:58

So basically @Scotslassie1 the only way to keep COVID out of NZ is complete quarantine, effectively isolating the country from the rest of the world. It's not sustainable in the long run.

tigger1001 · 21/10/2020 20:59

@RaspberryCoulis

With regard to closing schools it’s naive to say that teenagers can fend for themselves and that view underestimates how important secondary school is to children's futures. Yes, they can be left to their own devices but nothing replaces the school experience

And I completely agree with this. I have a S1, S4 and S6. My S6 had his Highers cancelled and went through the summer shitshow of the results fiasco. He's now trying to apply to Uni. My S4 has had their Nat 5's cancelled. The "blended learning" we were offered was non-existent, no work was marked, no feedback, obviously no practical.

Yes they can "fend for themselves" in terms of not needing adult supervision, but for subjects like Advanced Higher Chemistry, Biology they need to be in school with facilities and people who know the subject matter! And that's before you recognise that not every child has their own smartphone or laptop, or even a table/desk to work at.

We've had a couple of Covid cases in S5/6. Children told to isolate, which they do. No drama. No "massive risk" or "huge spread". And the two cases who have had Covid probably brought it in from elsewhere given that it is just a couple of cases rather than who friendship groups.

I agree with this!

It's easy to say teenagers can fend for themselves (and most can from a being home on their own point of view) but educationally? No, they need teachers teaching them face to face. Most of my teenagers subjects have a degree of practical work - not sure how that can be done at home. The online situation in lockdown was a joke and little work was given - 2 to 3 hours in total per week doesn't replace 6 hours in school per day.

And agree not all families have good enough it access to be able to work at home.

Svelteinmydreams · 21/10/2020 21:02

Ok @grumplass, I clearly read @Malachite234’s comment differently. I read it that she was encouraging debate. I did not mean to imply that my views were the same,, nor that I agreed with any one-sided thread, but that I welcome debate, your second thread to which you link, does not accept any form of discussion.
I apologise if that’s not been clear, but that really is what I am saying.

For the record , as I already said, I think Ms Sturgeon is a poor team player, and I think Mr Johnson is a shit leader.

grumplass · 21/10/2020 21:10

@Svelteinmydreams Malachite clearly says she wants to talk about how she disagrees with NS and wants to talk about it with others but is asking why nationalists are angry with this????

It's just the attitude of entitlement I can't stand, the attitude that how dare Nicola show any kind of leadership, own the situation or express herself. She's not a team player or trying to get one over on Boris

Listen to the misogyny to start with before you even start to look at the issue of self determination for our country.

SBTLove · 21/10/2020 21:54

@Svelteinmydreams
Are you struggling with reading comprehension?
The linked thread was purely to count numbers not a discussion thread, it’s really quite clear you know. Your opinion wasn’t requested.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 22:13

Pointless count though. What exactly are you trying to count? How many people who may or may live in Scotland and who happen to be on a website in a Wednesday night post that they agree with you, irrespective of what they truly think?

Utterly pointless. As pointless as stating an "I think Mrs Hinckley should get a dame hood only post if you agree with me" thread.

grumplass · 21/10/2020 22:19

Not true @RaspberryCoulis this isn't AIBU and there doesn't always need to be a debate.There are many threads on mumsnet which are entirely created for one interest. Why don't you go over to the "any witches here " threads 🧙‍♀️ and argue with them about their views?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 21/10/2020 22:25

I stopped thinking NS has a brain when everyone went to Italy half term in February. I was literally shaking my head in despair knowing there was no way back from the cases that would be brought in. But what do I know - I’m no epidemiologist not scientist. I’m too stupid to know better. I wept when untested cases entered our local care homes - we had one where 1/3rd residents died. The galling lack of common sense is what gets me.

So when students returned to halls and cases spiked - I’m like “no fucking shit, Sherlock” - my children could have predicted that. And they wag fingers at us for breaking
rules when it is clear where cases are coming from.

I accept there are technical issues with testing or track and trace. I can see that it’s harder to implement.

It’s just I feel the government is moronically stupid. But i have felt that for years. Scotland is fucked educationally - and I squarely blame the SNP for that. Full of soundbites but not clever people

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 23:04

Why casual staff were still allowed in care homes stumped me. I'd noticed Denmark had stopped the practice of having staff moving around early on. But family who work in the sector confirmed temp staff here were still moving from one setting to another.

SBTLove · 21/10/2020 23:14

The care homes that are mainly privately owned and owners were shopping staff in, failing to provide ppe but again everything is NS fault 🙄

OrangeLeavesYellowLeaves · 21/10/2020 23:22

I think in general NS is doing a fair job.
Just musing in response to CalledyoulastnightfromGlasgow's post as to things that seem to go against all sense early on.

Glad you're on watch for any dissent though! Well done. X

Pubs and restaurants are privately owned but it hasn't stopped her telling them what they can and cannot do.

As explained numerous times for the stupid of understanding, the other thread was to gauge numbers not a discussion but some ppl can’t help being shit stirrers can they?[/quote]
Why so rude?

laramacleopardprint · 22/10/2020 01:53

It's the 'support' that pisses me off. A huge amount of restaurants and bars will not reopen. Husbands business is supplier to hospitality. They're being offered grant for £1000, aye, that'll go far! A grand won't pay 2 employees wage for 2 weeks never mind the other 12. Now extended restrictions for another week and £2,155...not forced to close so not eligible for furlough either. But I can go to work in school with 33 other households in 1 tiny room or down the gym and sweat my bollocks off over all the equipment, nae bother. Total shite.

Fantail · 22/10/2020 05:20

@Scotslassie1

2 cases in the community. 2. No lockdown.

They are actually Russian and Ukrainian fishers who’ve come in from Russia to crew deep sea fishing trawlers. They were tested before flying out (and apparently had been self isolating before flying in). They are in our managed isolation facilities.

The three community cases we currently have are through a ship electrical engineer contracting it at the border. He’s passed it on to two co-workers. This is our testing and track and trace systems working well (so far).

The only way we could completely keep it out is to close the borders to all arrivals and that’s never been the intention.

Scotslassie1 · 22/10/2020 06:38

Yes Fantail, we don't have those type of facilities here though ( happy to be corrected if wrong). For months we weren't able to do any sort of checks on people coming into Scotland . It's a different kettle of fish- 2/4 cases versus the high numbers we have in Scotland ( and the UK). We really need the England Gov on board as otherwise whatever we do is essentially p*ssing in the wind.

MissEliza · 22/10/2020 07:14

We really need the England gov on board. First of all, it's the U.K. government. Secondly, it's the Scottish government who needs to 'get on board'. NS, from day one, has played a divisive game. She briefs first, announces first and looks for political and divisive points. I saw a headline the other day that there may be a travel ban to England. From where I'm sitting that's infuriating and hilarious.
The cases numbers where my df lives are sky high compared to where I live in England and have been for quite a while, despite them being similar demographically. She's really not doing a good job but I guess the sheep who support her won't let facts get in the way.

MissEliza · 22/10/2020 07:16

Her track record is appalling. So is BJ's but I don't know anyone in my (staunch Tory) area who thinks he does because we're capable of objective thought.

@MissEliza

Exactly. She's just better at spin and deflection. Diverting attention from the fact they discharged loads of people from hospital back into care homes, and covered up what went on at the Nike conference.

The "seal the borders" people haven't a clue. It's like "We'll build a wall, a tremendous, terrific wall, and England will pay for it". Hmm

MissEliza · 22/10/2020 08:19

Your comment about building a wall is funny but the closing the border threats do cause people like me stress. My df is on his own up there and knowing he's part of our support bubble and can visit us makes me a bit less worried but this recent threat is making me stress about Christmas. I don't believe it's about Coronavirus- they're just using it as a chance to be anti English.
