Given a choice between wearing face masks all day and WFH / blended learning, I'd prefer the latter.

Arkadia · 30/10/2020 15:39

@throwingawaymyshot, but that is a false argument. It is most certainly not an "either-or" kind of situation - unless someone wishes to portray it like that (but that doesn't make it any more accurate).

Dinnafashyersel · 30/10/2020 15:56

I think the "blended learning" ship sailed long ago. That was on the premise that class sizes could be halved. Now people have thought through the staffing implications of providing simultaneous in person and on-line classes and the half week attendance additional social interactions.

It will either be continue with everyone in school or go back to fully on-line. Would actually make quite a lot of sense for more senior years to go fully on-line as they are the best equipped for independent learning at home and also the most at risk from disruption due to continued periods of self-isolation. Better than the pretending wearing a face mask from 9-3 will be tolerable or will make any difference anyway.

MadameBlobby · 30/10/2020 15:58

@throwingawaymyshot

kind of wish I hadn't left the UFT group cause I'm wondering what their reaction to this is!
Hahahaha I reckon I can guess!!

Interesting graph from SAGE.

October Becomes November Lockdown
Bikingbear · 30/10/2020 16:33

Lassie that graph is crazy, the NI circuit breaker worked but the Welsh one didn't. Scotland futtering around hasn't done anything either.

The Police are concerned that closing hospitality is in effect encouraging more house parties. Which makes it much harder to control the whole thing.

Bikingbear · 30/10/2020 16:35

Did NI close the schools?

Lidlfix · 30/10/2020 16:40

One of My lovely Higher class today when another of them read about the breaking news during research "I'll wear a kilt over a hazmat suit and banana wellies if I can get to sit my Highers" . They were completely indifferent.

Scotslassie1 · 30/10/2020 16:46

Love that Lidl. Grin

Scotslassie1 · 30/10/2020 16:50

The graph shows the restrictions are working as we're platauing. Made me feel better about them.

Bikingbear · 30/10/2020 17:24

That's true. We need it to do more than plateau we need it to come down.

The whole thing is completely depressing. I'm trying to look forward to Christmas and it would be good to know what will be allowed. Once Christmas is past we can look forward to spring and better weather.

MadameBlobby · 30/10/2020 17:35

And in other news, bears shit in the woods.

Surely this can’t have been any sort of surprise? Did NS think that when she shut pubs people were just going to sit indoors with their family drinking tea and playing ludo? She is deluded.

NotAnActualSheep · 30/10/2020 18:20

That's an interesting graph scotslassie and reassuring I agree. Looks like even England is starting to lower its rate too, though slower than Scotland (though that's not surprising as their restrictions are less stringent). I'm confused though as it doesn't seem to match the data on the Scottish Government site (or the UK gov site) which slows a recent slowing of the rate of increase but not to that extent (in Scotland and England... And a recent downturn in NI but again to a lesser extent) . Difficult to tell as the gov. UK site is awful to operate on my tablet so I can't zoom in over the same timescale as the "indie sage" one! (whoever they are... that's not the actual Sage group I don't think).

I know indie-sage have plotted it as per 100000 rather than actual numbers, but that shouldn't affect the shape of the graph. I'm wondering if they've done some extrapolation with the more recent data, which doesn't actually reflect "today's" numbers, but also includes more results from earlier days iyswim. It could well be right, but its interesting how the two graphs can "spin" ostensibly the same data.

Arkadia · 30/10/2020 19:23

@Bikingbear, give NI a week or two, and they will be were they started, just like everyone else.

Scotslassie1 · 30/10/2020 20:18

NI closed their schools for a week longer than their hols. They'll open on Monday.

Maybe we should have done the same here but our numbers are nowhere near theres and we're levelling off so seems we're not doing too badly.
I haven't seen the other graph. Indie sage - sounds like a weird band from the 70s!

Yes. Tell Scottish people they can’t see their families or drink... 😂
littlbrowndog · 30/10/2020 20:36

Yeah sit inside silently staring at the walls. No singing or dancing 💃😂

WouldBeGood · 30/10/2020 21:06

Yes @littlbrowndog it’s not happening, is it? 😂

frasersmummy · 30/10/2020 22:26

I missed the briefing today and someone on facebook has just said JS announced national 5 assessments taking place Nov Dec Jan..

I cant find anything re this .. is this bs made up by someone on facebook - surely not ?? Shock Grin

Lidlfix · 30/10/2020 22:33

Left at school at 4.00 and hadn't heard that. Internal evidence gathering we are still waiting to hear about and TES has been good at getting info out after close of play on a Friday.?

WouldBeGood · 30/10/2020 22:37

It seems full lockdown coming again so no doubt they’ll allow be scrapped.

WouldBeGood · 30/10/2020 22:38

Leak saying English lockdown coming. There’s no way NS will let the go past her

Ecosse · 30/10/2020 22:45

It will definitely be interesting to see what NS does. Her authoritarian instincts will want to impose a lockdown.

But there is also huge political opportunity for her if England locks down and Scotland manages to stay open (as a result of her wonderful leadership of course).

WouldBeGood · 30/10/2020 22:57

I suspect this is why she “spared” Lanarkshire

ssd · 30/10/2020 23:53

There's no way the whole of the UK except us can lockdown and we don't. We need to keep people safe.
