Ecosse scientists have realised via test and protect that transmission is happening in restaurants and bars. The FM has closed them to stop this ( and lost votes from those in the hospitality trade). This also ensures, or helps to ensure that schools can stay open. Comprende?

WouldBeGood · 21/10/2020 21:30

I don’t think there is actually evidence of spread in bars and restaurants.

This should be right link for the local cases.

The local test centres set up in the villages lidl, where all villagers were invited to have a test regardless of whether they had symptoms, identified a few asymptomatic people but otherwise concluded that the level of infection was consistent with the level in the forth valley.

waitforitwaitforit · 21/10/2020 21:40

There is evidence that some of the people who tested positive had been in hospitality settings.

However, as I am spending my days in a classroom with loads of other people and no real protection, there's no way I'm avoiding hospitality when I'm off, so I wonder if others feel the same. Hence maybe others are doing the same?

Ehm... no, @Scotslassie1. She said time and time again that transmission is within the home and not in restaurant and bars (OK, there will be some). She insisted that we couldn't close pubs (in Glasgow) because that is not where transmission was taking place, etc. I remember seeing a pie hart recently where it showed this too (don't have a link, but I am sure a Google search can help). Said that, I am sure that coffee shops will now be vilified next because I have seen with my own eye places that are usually empty doing a roaring trade.

As an aside, it makes me laugh that in Wales they have closed places of worship too. If going to church over there is anything like what it is like here, it speaks volumes about the lack of meaning of these measures. Here entering a church is like entering a clean room in a ebola infested war zone (surrounded by zombies).

I see the SNP society for misinformation and general snark has arrived... Hmm

Lidlfix · 21/10/2020 21:53

Your more into data than me Wax and I know you know your way about the site - where does it say that? There were days when Fallin was up in the 20s . I thought that seemed high in terms of the population? But I am no number cruncher .

rookiemere · 21/10/2020 21:56

We've driven past cafes that I have never seen so busy before. I suppose it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good.
DH and I have been taking bets on what tier Edinburgh will be in. Infection rate is slowing, but I doubt that will come into the equation.

Meanwhile a positive case from DS year group reported. Because of half term and delay and getting tested and results, close contacts only have to isolate until Friday. Thankfully DS has not been identified.

WouldBeGood · 21/10/2020 21:59

I think there were stats that showed a percentage of people had been in hospitality venues, but no stats that they’d caught it there.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/10/2020 22:00

Hi lidl, it wasn't on that, I saw it on fb, hopefully this link works

Does anyone know what the strategy is?

RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 22:14

You are assuming there IS a strategy.

WouldBeGood · 21/10/2020 22:19

I’m trying to be open minded and listen if anyone has a view? I’m doubting it but also doubt myself

Lidlfix · 21/10/2020 22:24

Thanks for the link I hadn't seen that. 🙏🏻 I have found myself defending Fallin and Cowie so it's good to read that.

Not sure I agree with what the Health Board says (even with my statistical dunce cap firmly in place) that 25 in a population of 2852 when Hillpark (still in red and in the same day) was 5 in a larger population is not higher per head of population.

Though I suppose that's what happens with inviting everyone symptom and asymptotic takes place. The resulting isolation, whilst it will have been rough for those concerned, has clearly impacted as it's now down at 9 (still red) .

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/10/2020 22:28

I think it's all about the averages lidl. Between 50 and 90% of the positive tests are not correct or don't mean that the person is capable of transmitting any infection anyway.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/10/2020 22:37

That's my imain issue with it. My area has between 1 and 4 they won't be more specific so as not to identify individuals. 1 case would turn the area blue on the map. 4 turns it red. 40 is still red. 400 would be red too.

But worst case scenario, 4. In a suburban family area with loads of families and kids mixing at school all day. Maximum of 4.

RaraRachael · 22/10/2020 10:41

My area has 15 cases per 100 000 so I hope we'll be in the lowest of her tiers. At the moment it's ridiculous that we can't even have a drink with a meal for a special upcoming birthday in the restaurant, yet 20 yards away people can have one "outside" sitting in a gazebo type things with sides

This is seriously giving me the rage.

Babdoc · 22/10/2020 10:55

A lot of Sturgeon’s response to the pandemic has nothing to do with controlling the virus. It’s all about showboating and being seen to be doing something (anything) especially if it’s different to England.
The truth is that you can’t effectively eliminate an airborne virus, despite her foolish claim to be attempting that in the summer.
The best you can hope for is to reduce the number of cases per week and drag out the pandemic for months longer than it would normally take, in order to keep demand for hospital beds manageable.
But if you want to do that successfully, you close the major sources of infection - which are schools and universities (38% of all infections) , not restaurants (6%).
It is heartbreaking for restaurant owners who have laboriously noted every customer’s contact details and installed expensive distancing measures, who have seen not a single customer flagged up positive, but still been forced to close, losing their livelihood and making staff redundant.

readsalotgirl63 · 22/10/2020 11:13

Sorry - just catching up but for clarification local authority staff could not be furloughed. The scheme was not available to public sector employees.
Regarding maintenance during lockdown - all our regular maintenance - fire alarm testing, regular cleaning, legionella checks - all stopped completely and had to be resumed before opening to staff or public. Cleaning was a challenge because the cleaners had been redeployed to do more cleaning in schools and weren't available

Arkadia · 22/10/2020 11:30

@readsalotgirl63, that is interesting. Thanks.

Still, in Falkirk at least, personnel working in swimming pools, libraries, etc. are employed by Falkirk Community Trust, so I wonder what rules apply.
Re: maintenance of buildings, if that is what happened it shows why the public sector is unfit to run things.

Ecosse · 22/10/2020 11:56

Looks like that is Christmas cancelled according to Leitch. Will be interesting to see what compliance is like for that...

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/10/2020 12:04

Comment on the story on FB said basically fuck off and wondered where they were getting all the extra police from on Christmas day to enforce it. I want my traditional Christmas day walk to the pub for a drink before dinner.

RaraRachael · 22/10/2020 13:06

JL gives me the rage as much as NS. His voice just grates and I associste it with bad news.
Seriously how are they going to enforce a "virtual Christmas ".

anon444877 · 22/10/2020 13:14

Joining new thread - hoping for good news for Lothian for the 5 tier strategy...I am glad I'm not a retailer trying to flog Halloween candy and costumes. On the other hand the Christmas gin may sell well!

Glad to see new support announced today from the uk govt.
