I suspect this will be the second of many

I'd have thought that the % positive cases is more useful as an indicator of the way an individual area is going. I'd expect it to vary between areas depending on testing approach, care settings etc but if it started increasing in that area it would suggest a possible issue

anon444877 · 29/10/2020 14:55

is the forecast not anyway broken down by area?

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 15:23

It's all broken down by area - what I meant is that the % isn't necessarily a good measure to compare between areas/countries as it will vary a lot depending on testing strategy.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 15:24

Thanks, @anon444877!

I’m very relieved. Though do appreciate others being pissed off

Arkadia · 29/10/2020 15:46

Do, what is the meaning if the tiered system again? How come that Falkirk is together with Lanark, Dundee and Glasgow? Not to mention the Borders.
So everything is the same as before, isn't it?

anon444877 · 29/10/2020 15:47

no quite @StatisticallyChallenged - all a bit emperor's new clothes today for Edinburgh!

Arkadia · 29/10/2020 15:52

Oops, sorry... Borders is 2, not 3.
I am already confused...

IwishIwasyoda · 29/10/2020 15:54

Ah OK see what you mean @StatisticallyChallenged but there are a lot of issues with the indicator IMO

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 16:00

There's a lot of issues with all of the indicators!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 16:36

You might enjoy this @StatisticallyChallenged

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 17:02

According to believable rumour, FV hospital services are required for Lanarkshire so hence we get level 3 in FV.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 17:04

If I were in charge of Scotland i would:

Let hospitality and shops open with SD. No stupid alcohol rules.Let venues and football grounds open too with SD in place. And gyms and sports.

I would say to people, look there’s something good for you to do. Go out and have fun but do not have loads of people over as that’s how the virus spreads. I’m treating you like grown ups. Please don’t fuck it up.

Chickenandrice · 29/10/2020 17:07

Wouldbegood there is a lot of sense in that. Closing everything down has the risk of driving all social interactions “underground” which may actually drive the infection rate to become worse. The problem is that you just can’t trust the public to follow that rule.

Lidlfix · 29/10/2020 17:14

Wax there are some specialities that Forth Valley and Lanarkshire share. This is nothing new DD1 was admitted to Monklands a few years ago.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 17:18

@Chickenandrice I think you’d get more trust if you looked after people with good track and trace, shorter self isolation, proper funding for that; plus letting some sort of normality go on.

There are certain parts of society that will never cooperate, but I feel now that most people have no interest in following the rules and are just pissed off. I’ve been surprised this week by who’s saying they’re just doing what they want!

BlueThursday · 29/10/2020 17:27

I think the goodwill has almost run out for many

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 17:35

The goodwill has run out, but so do have the reserves - both financial and emotional. People are running on empty

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 17:41

so too have the reserves, even.

BlueThursday · 29/10/2020 18:15

Oh completely.

Say you were someone who doesn’t get sick pay. The. For the 3rd time in 6 months you’re being told to isolate I can totally get why someone would take their chances

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 18:19

Yup. You are asking people to trade the very small possibility of serious harm to someone they possibly don't even know - i.e. the chance of them actually having covid, and then passing it on to someone, who then dies from it - against the certainty of their family being hungry/not able to pay rent etc because they can't work.

Altruism only goes so far

throwingawaymyshot · 29/10/2020 18:20

DF will still be going from a tier 3 to a tier 2 for his daily pint (or 20).

Sigh.

littlbrowndog · 29/10/2020 18:36

Done with it. Seems there no end to it

Reserves and will done

littlbrowndog · 29/10/2020 18:39

It’s fine when you are sitting on a good wage.

I know so many people who can’t get jobs as the bars cafe restaurants are dropping staff.

Gawd. Depressing

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 18:39

@Lidlfix

Very true. DH goes between loads of hospitals including Monklands, Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as care homes, hospices etc.

Funnily enough they are no busier than usual.

Has anyone ever made a freedom of information request? I'm going to look into it and see if I can get some information on hospital admission levels for this and previous years.

I'm fed up with just moaning (and I'm sure you guys are fed up my moaning too!) and not actually doing anything so I'm going to make a point of doing something every day to question or request info or something.

This is from a few weeks ago but I hadn't seen it:
