@littlbrowndog

It’s fine when you are sitting on a good wage.

I know so many people who can’t get jobs as the bars cafe restaurants are dropping staff.

Gawd. Depressing

Plus self employed people (no ssp), those who only get ssp, those not eligible, folk on zero hours/insecure. And of course if you're needing to stay at home because your kid has to isolate then you're not actually sick/isolating yourself so no sick pay

Is it really any wonder that people will not isolate?

anon444877 · 29/10/2020 19:01

Absolutely - not everyone has understanding employers and job security. 14 days is a big ask of firms.

I saw that summary from the bbc, fascinating.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/10/2020 19:03

Sigh. I'm in East Dunbartonshire, which isn't very big, plus we live near a 'border'.

Daily walk takes us into another council area. We'll be unable to cross the river 5 minutes from home (like a witch).

Weekly shop takes us into another council area. Sure, there are supermarkets in ED, but I like the one I go to.

Just had my car in for some follow up work - garage is in another council area.

DH just had some work done on his car. Main dealer is in another council area, as is the (cheaper) independent garage he took it to.

DH is catching up on house jobs and is a regular at B&Q, Screwfix, Toolstation. Closest ones are all in another council area.

I know none of these are life-or-death situations, but I preferred it when we could travel up to 5 miles from home.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 19:18

I think almost all of those would comply with the various criteria for leaving the area

from memory:
essential shopping - given that home maintenance places were allowed to open as essential I'd say the stuff they sell counts as essential.
physical exercise
education
medical
caring responsibilities

Car maintenance isn't explicitly listed but I'd say it's broadly essential shopping too - you're probably buying both goods and services.

waitforitwaitforit · 29/10/2020 19:20

I fully intend to continue to walk the ten minutes across the border to the park. It's not the only park we go to but it's the one where we've the least chance of encountering drunk neds on a Saturday afternoon. Much more of the banning alcohol, mind you, and I may be tempted to join them

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/10/2020 19:26

Hope so, @StatisticallyChallenged. It all depends on interpretation.

@waitforitwaitforit - glad I'm not the only one.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 19:27

If I want to go to a DIY shop or similar I have to go over the "border" too - there's lots of little shops in our town and a small tesco but that's it. Heck, most of our take out dinner options are technically in Edinburgh!

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 19:29

I’m leaving my area on Saturday to go to stay in a nice English pub with nice food and indoor drinking.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 19:31

Sounds lovely. remember and wash your hands :o

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 19:37

I shall! It’s my last hurrah, it seems given the climate

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 19:38

I might swing into booths on my way home...

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 19:43

Oh I feel all stressed in case you think it's crap... :o

sweetkitty · 29/10/2020 20:04

So so glad we didn’t go into Tier 4 today (Lanarkshire), the don’t travel out with LA area has been a joke firing October holidays people were all over FB with their holiday and days out pics (some booked after the restrictions), every weekend there’s another spate of “climbed a Munroe” photos (hopefully the weather will put a end to that though).

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 20:08

Yeah we in Stirlingshire loved getting a row from the police and in the local press for bad parking at tourist spots over the September weekend when we didn't even have a September weekend...

That said, the countryside is for everyone and it's a great activity in current times as it's easy to distance but if people could only think of different places to go or change their plans when there isn't somewhere to park.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 20:42

I loathe the countryside

@WaxOnFeckOff remember I’m excited by Waitrose. Pressure off!

BlueThursday · 29/10/2020 20:42

Just a thought. My MOT is booked in N Lanarkshire next week so I’m going to be a total rebel

So, would other people not go “out of region?”

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 29/10/2020 20:54

The guidance is not to go out of your council area. The 5 miles limit wasn't great for rural areas, this rule might be better, at least for some people.

We're limiting our outings anyway, we (happily!) avoid crowds, busy cafes and garden centres. But I suspect we're not typical, otherwise the virus wouldn't be spreading at all so fast.

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 20:58

There’s no evidence that the virus spreads in those areas. It seems to be homes and care homes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/10/2020 20:58

This was the wording re travel - not sure if it's been updated yet (level 3 area needs swapped with local authority)

No non-essential travel into or out of the level 3 area
Exemptions for essential travel for work, education, shopping health
etc; outdoor exercise; weddings and funerals; shared parenting,
and transit through restricted areas

WouldBeGood · 29/10/2020 20:59

I’d like to know if it’s law or guidance. I’ll check if a statutory instrument comes out.

Not in force til next week anyway

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/10/2020 21:05

She said it wasn't law. I might be wrong but I think they can't legally restrict individual person movements but no doubt they could summon up a covid clause. Also said they are relying on us doing the right thing as police can't track every journey.

I have to take my car to the dealership on the cusp of the neighbouring LA next week. Both tier 3, same HB
Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 29/10/2020 21:21

So are kids sports classes “educational”? At long last kids’ gymnastics & climbing are supposed to be restarting but both are out of our LA....

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 29/10/2020 21:23

FWIW would be from 3 to a 3 (& all have better figures than Dundee Hmm)
