CV in Scotland

(This probably will get moved to the CV topic but thought I'd start one in Scotsnet anyway).

Does anyone have info as to where the Scottish cases are and whether these are 'community gained' or direct exposure from a Cat 1/2 place.

Any thoughts on the impact for our youngsters due to sit SQA exams next month?

My DS is in his highers year. 2 emails from school last week suggesting self isolation for kids returning from Italian holidays in half term but quiet since then.

I suspect they plan to keep the schools open until the Easter break - just 2 more weeks - and take it from there. My oldest is in her final year and Uni and I work in one - it is very much keep calm and carry on at the moment.

I suspect the schools will close eventually, or maybe not re-open after Easter, but I hope that the exams will take place on the agreed dates even if other children are not going into school. I think the huge disruption of postponing/cancelling exams will not be worth any marginal benefit.

Every council is different, Easter hols where I am starts second week of April so we have another 3 weeks to go.

I watched a bit of question time last night and thought the public health expert was very good; by shutting schools to the vast majority this would allow everyone to be exposed to the virus in a controlled way not overloading and repeatedly attacking suppressed immune systems.

The Scottish government website is

www.gov.scot/coronavirus-covid-19/

It's updated at 2pm each day.

SamSeabornforPresident · 13/03/2020 09:45

I agree that this should stay in Scotnet. The situation here is different in many ways and it's so frustrating when other posters bound in with suspicious comments like 'exams now...?' Or 'I think you'll find that the school holidays aren't till the end of July. Clearly that makes you a troll..' Grin

WeAllHaveWings · 13/03/2020 12:20

ah well, don't need to convince ds not to attend the Killie game tomorrow anymore.

Minesabecks · 13/03/2020 13:27

Mine are still planning to go Hmm

JKScot4 · 13/03/2020 13:28

All Scottish football cancelled as of today.
Wonder if they’ll be refunding my Scotland tickets??

dementedpixie · 13/03/2020 13:29

Has it not been postponed?

JKScot4 · 13/03/2020 13:29

They can’t afford to play behind closed doors, season is postponed.

Minesabecks · 13/03/2020 13:30

Ah thanks I hadn't realised

Minesabecks · 13/03/2020 13:30

What I'd heard was that tomorrow was to be the last, must have updated since then.
He will not be pleased

Sunbeam18 · 13/03/2020 14:30

Is the government website not being updated at 2pm each day anymore?

dementedpixie · 13/03/2020 14:54

85 cases now

JKScot4 · 13/03/2020 15:13

Our local council has just emailed out saying that all school trips outside the UK or residential inside the UK, parents' evenings, school events, shows, parent assemblies cancelled until the end of the Easter holidays. (20th April).

Makes sense. Not sure whether DD's duke of edinburgh expedition will count as a school trip, probably will.

JKScot4 · 13/03/2020 16:20

UWS closing, Standard life and Lloyd’s closing offices and Ineos sending non essential staff home to revert to one week on/off and vulnerable with health issues home until further notice.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/03/2020 16:50

Aegon and RBS/Netwest also taking action - mostly implementing home working where possible. I'm just wondering if the digital networks are going to be able to cope with so many people working from home at the same time.

LizzieMacQueen · 13/03/2020 16:57

Lothian area, elderly with underlying health isssues 😕

dementedpixie · 13/03/2020 17:01

The above link says 1 has sadly died

LizzieMacQueen · 13/03/2020 17:03

Underlying health issues. As have all the deceased. Wonder when that will start to change?

I think rather than panic closing schools we need to close hospitals, care homes to visitors and non essential staff to safeguard the vulnerable.

dementedpixie · 13/03/2020 17:39

Our local hospital is now limiting visiting hours to 2 hours per day. A lot of care homes are asking visitors to stay away
