CV in Scotland

LizzieMacQueen · 05/03/2020 09:20

(This probably will get moved to the CV topic but thought I'd start one in Scotsnet anyway).

Does anyone have info as to where the Scottish cases are and whether these are 'community gained' or direct exposure from a Cat 1/2 place.

Any thoughts on the impact for our youngsters due to sit SQA exams next month?

My DS is in his highers year. 2 emails from school last week suggesting self isolation for kids returning from Italian holidays in half term but quiet since then.

Exactly- Once!

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 20/03/2020 18:38

@WeAllHaveWings you’ve put me right in the mood for a tattie scone now! I could quite happily live off them if there was nothing else available.

Are pubs etc still allowed to offer the takeaway food services a lot of them had started up?

prettybird · 20/03/2020 18:49

We've offered to help our neighbours with their 2 kids (although the older one is in S5 so capable of looking after himself) - but as they are both GPs, they come into the protected category.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 20/03/2020 18:59

Watching Nicola compared to Boris is just night and day isn’t it? Even if you don’t agree with her politically I don’t think anyone can deny she’s extremely articulate and a great speaker.

GlassOfProsecco · 20/03/2020 18:59

Finally got the council/school email in about childcare for key workers.

On one hand, as an NHS worker, I know I need to go in.

But I'm not sure how happy I am with them going to a germ-filled confined space with lots of other kids.

It's actually making me quite sad. I'm not an SNP or Nicola fan (understatement of the year!), but we've had a glimpse of how well she could possibly have done if she'd not been mentored by Salmond and had actually put her energy and intelligence into running the country. She might be in a politically better position too, imho.

Not wanting to get into politics particularly though.

I am worried about the provision hubs. I am secondary English very experienced. I have 4 DDs and numerous nephews, nieces or children whose parents are close friends that my relationship with is aunt like . But I am by and large useless with unfamiliar younger children. I could and should be deployed but my LA wants me to do shifts in an 0-14 environment.

The numbers signing up for the provision is significant. My DH is actually more important than me right now should I risk him and his value to be the most useless child care professional NOT teacher ?Confused

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/03/2020 20:09

My take on it Lidl is that it will be more like the Out of School care provision that my DSs attended during school holidays with a bit of learning for any older children chucked in for a couple of hours during the day. So I guess they will have nursery staff, play staff as well as education staff.

I could be completely off track with that though.

Lidlfix · 20/03/2020 20:17

Colleague , same specialism as me was assigned early years and shifts.

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/03/2020 20:19

That seems bizarre. Maybe rekindle your crayoning and cutting out skills over the weekend?

Lidlfix · 20/03/2020 20:30

We played Grand Hotel. I was Sophie the (25 year old) bar manager and didn't start till 12.00 . The chamber maids and breakfast team had completed their responsibilities before I could be called upon. This might be a true story from a very cold rainy Easter Holidays Wink.

I want to do my bit but not be a hindrance or feel out my depth , at work, if nowhere else in the world I get to be the expert.

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/03/2020 20:39

I am sure you will be absolutely fine, you might enjoy it (or maybe send one of your DDs in your place? Grin )

I am currently only an expert in managing expectations given the shopping list I have just been given from DH. Freedom tomorrow!

Any suggestions for which Supermarket in Stirling is likely to have the basics and stuff to buy? Not panic buy i should add, just need some normal shopping.

Lidlfix · 20/03/2020 20:47

When we did the CV drop last night (no bites yet sadly) Alloa Morrison's and Aldii , we are Stirling ourselves, were looking the best. But that was 2100 on Thursday. Alloa seems to have a greater range and larger stores supermarket wise than Stirling .

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/03/2020 20:51

Hmm might have to venture over there at some point then but will try Sainsburys first. Lots of offers now of NHS slots but despite DH being NHS, they are no use to us as he can't leave the house for another week.

StoorieHoose · 21/03/2020 17:50

Tesco last night was bare in Stirling. Hope you managed to get some shopping Wax

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/03/2020 18:44

Thanks @StoorieHoose I went to Sainsburys at the crack of dawn and got a reasonable shop to be fair. No panic buying and not necessarily what I was looking for or normally buy, but definitely enough to feed us. Some weird things such as there being no dried pasta (I wasn't buying any and haven't bought any since this began as I generally have a few packs anyway) but there was fresh pasta, ditto fresh pasta sauce. There was plenty fruit and veg and I bought a chicken. I guess i'm lucky in that I can cook so can make meals out of things. I think that chicken is going to become one of the legendary MNet chickens that feeds a family of 4 for a fortnight!

I taught DS how to make a proper cheese sauce the other day but in doing so I used the last of the flour and can't get any more so that knowledge is probably wasted on him now :)

In other news DH now has symptoms, hoping he will be well enough to collect DS2 from Uni next weekend.

StoorieHoose · 21/03/2020 19:23

@WaxOnFeckOff Sainsbury's Local in the centre had lots of flour when I was in yesterday.

Hope your DH doesn't suffer with the symptoms too much

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/03/2020 19:29

Ah, good shout re flour, I have half a bag of bread flour that's just about out of date but should be enough to make a loaf, or a batch of rolls or pizza bases but to be fair there doesn't seem to be too much issue with getting fresh bread products. I was hoping to increase DSs cooking skills over the next wee while before the crisis started and ingredients became scarce. I'd like to still try some things though.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/03/2020 19:30

DH is not too bad for the moment, hoping he gets a similar dose to me, he's older than me but far fitter.

I0NA · 21/03/2020 20:35

@Waxonfeckoff

I was in my local Morrisons ( not near you ) when they opened at 7am this morning and was able to get most things for my 2 adult + 3 teenager household ( you can’t imagine how much they eat ).

Only things I couldn’t get were dried pasta ( they had plenty fresh ) and kitchen roll.

They had fresh meat and fish from the instore butcher but very little of the pre packaged.

I think they were low on canned goods but I didn’t need any.

Most of the other customers seemed to have normal looking trolley loads IYSWIM. I guess all the crazy stockpilers were still in bed.

BTW worth checking store opening hours, the one I was in at 7am this morning has now changed to 8am opening every day.

dementedpixie · 21/03/2020 20:38

They are now using that first hour for NHS staff to shop. I got an email about it today

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/03/2020 20:51

I was in Sainsburys just after 7. I needed to pick up a prescription at 8 but when I went to the desk there was a note saying not open until 9 so I had to go back later as DH was down to last dose of his medication.

I have 2 teens boys and DH, 6'2 and over so we are used to large appetites. DH and DS1 currently on a fitness regime so eating more than usual... Hmm DS2 not home yet.

I was trying to get something nice (hopefully ready made) for our anniversary dinner (we were supposed to be out tonight but had to cancel for obv reasons even before they were shut) so I'll just have to cook! Anniversary officially Monday and I'm off then anyway.

DH is NHS but not allowed out to shop for now. Tbh, I wouldn't do that anyway as we have transport and I'm working at home for the forseeable future so we are able to access shops and get what we need, though maybe not what we want.

I'm sure it has to calm down soon? How much cupboard and fridge and freezer space do people actually have?

Lots of hopeful posts on the local sharing and caring site looking for freezers.

I0NA · 21/03/2020 21:54

Oh that’s excellent @dementedpixie, we have a hospital nearby.

SamSeabornforPresident · 21/03/2020 22:16

I'm really hoping it calms down as I don't have a kitchen so can't really store much food at all. We were also running down our cupboard supplies when this hit so were fairly low. Hopefully when I have an oven and cupboards and stuff again I'll be able to buy food.

I0NA · 22/03/2020 13:53

@Lidlfix

Don’t worry about working with the kids, it’s to be more like Childcare than school. They are more concerned about the potential psychological effect on the children than their education.

I was told this today by a reliable source at the council. The service they run is closed to the public and their admin staff are being drafted into the NHS.
