So the 6th of August is fast approaching... here is the 2019 thread.

Ds was sitting a mixture of highers and Nat5's. So we'll see what this year brings.

I'm just grateful it's not 2 lots like last year as it was a mare.

@HotGingerPudding2 DS knows of one other going who is also in DRA but self catered - this was his first choice. I think each apartment has the same basis but could be wrong.
We did ask to have a look at a room but unfortunately they couldn’t let us. We did mange a look through the windows though (DS was totally embarrass even though he wasn’t even with us 😂)! I took a photo that I could send to you if it helps ? Storage looked limited, no wardrobe as such just a hanging rail - no far off a typical premier inn room tbh !!
I think DS will get used to catered very quickly - will certainly make life easier and as you say they will need to fend for themselves at weekends so maybe best if both worlds. The bistro & bar area looked like a good sociable area. DRA is open during the summer so anyone can wander round (just not into the accommodation blocks).
DS is looking forward to going, me not so much ! I’m v excited for him & know it’ll be fabulous but if I’m honest I’m dresding Sept 😬. Getting ahead with the shopping list is strangely distracting for me ! Think I’m in denial too !
We’re lucky we’re not too far away so a weekend visit is totally doable ... if DS let’s me !!

FluffytheGoldfish · 30/07/2019 09:22

One thing I did for Dd1 before she went off to uni was to fill a box with a first aid kit which included her regular medication, basic first aid equipment but also lots and lots of cold/flu type stuff. It was definitely needed.

Alittewornout · 30/07/2019 22:21

I would second the cold/ flu first aid box. Freshers “flu” is really common in the first few weeks as they are all exposed to new bugs. ( hangovers and poor diet at the beginning obviously impact on this too!!) x

WaxOnFeckOff · 30/07/2019 23:39

DS suffers a lot with sore throats so I might need a retail sized box of strepsils. In other news, I've just identified that he thinks deodorant/antiperspirant/body spray & aftershave are all the same thing...it explains a lot. i really don't know where i've gone wrong. At least he still seems to be going through a normal amount of underwear and laundry in general. DS1 seems to be treating clean clothes as if they are rationed...

6 sleeps. he's not signed up for text results Hmm

Lovetunnocks · 30/07/2019 23:46

I've got DD waiting for Nat 5 results, DS waiting for Advanced Highers, and teacher DH waiting for Nat 5 and Higher results for his pupils. DS is sorted for a place at college next year so is completely unbothered about his results (which we fully expect to be shocking because he did sweet FA all year) but DD and DH are both self-critical perfectionists and are both super stressed. I HATE this time of year!

Alittewornout · 31/07/2019 07:20

Welcome to our team Love tunnocks. Feeling your stress!

Lidlfix · 31/07/2019 10:33

Back from holidays and the inevitable OMG it's next week has kicked in. I can see the furrowed brows and wee sighs when they think I'm not looking Sad. I know what Tunnock's DH goes through as despite declaration to the contrary I know that SMT look at class by class comparisons heck I do it myself. Least I am dodge the trip to work to look at results as am my firmly keeping my parental hat on the professional one can wait! Saw DD2's flat for next year wow she is living the West End dream for sure.

WickedGoodDoge · 31/07/2019 12:45

DS is waiting for his Higher results. I think he’s doing OK. He’s off doing the Ernst Young Business Academy this week so most of our stress is revolving around whether or not the trains are running on time on the Bathgate line!

Last year I was away off at the hairdressers when his Nat5 results came through so I came home to a very indignant boy that I hadn’t been about when he got them. I have put the date in my diary this time. Grin Blush

Alittewornout · 01/08/2019 16:41

Dd had a nightmare last night about the results. Big chats today that we are so proud of her work ethic and that she truly could not have done more. Whatever the results there will be a path and we will be there to support her. Am finding it hard to say the right things!!!

HotGingerPudding2 · 02/08/2019 08:37

Yes please to the photograph susiewong!! Ha ha - can imagine my one being totally mortified at me doing similar.
It’s difficult to know how much to take so that they’ll not be tripping over stuff. Thinking about towels and bedding particularly and trying to balance laundry costs. Am sure her current routine of fresh towel daily and weekly bed change will slip once she’s responsible for her own washing. Getting her to hang her bath towel up to dry instead of throwing it in the wash or leaving it on her bedroom floor is proving hit or miss currently!

susiewong · 02/08/2019 10:26

@HotGingerPudding2 not the best photo but hopefully you can see what’s what ! Not much storage space at all but lots of sockets 😂

Dd2 is signed up for text results. And it is just as well as last year the postman came to the door and only had results for one daughter! I just looked at him and went "but there is supposed to be two!Shock"
His colleague came to the door ten minutes later with them after they searched the van and found it had slid under the seat. It was so nice of them to interrupt their delivery to search then rather than waiting till they were done or back at the sorting office. I wasn't expecting anything till the next day.(it was already 2pm)

HotGingerPudding2 · 02/08/2019 14:42

Thanks susiewong That’s useful to have a nose. See what you mean about the sockets - crikey.

Doesn’t look like a great deal of floorspace with the double bed. Am thinking she could have a couple of basket type things on top of the wardrobe as we’ll take away suitcases and just leave her with her rucksack. Will have to have a search for nifty storage ideas. Adding clothes hangers to my list! Thanks for sharing!

Less than four days now until results day. Hope everyone is just about bearing up.

Groovee · 02/08/2019 14:43

Ds is saying nothing at the mo.

weegiemum · 02/08/2019 20:03

Waiting for 2 lots of results this year. Ds did 5 highers and is mainly worried about Maths. Quite chill about the others, expecting reasonable results.

Dd2 did 6 Nat5 and Higher music. She has no idea how she's done and isn't even here, she's gone on holiday to Poland with her boyfriend (staying with his granny) and is just enjoying herself.

Currently the stress is on Dd1's module resit for uni. It's due in on Monday (it's art, she's at GSA) and she was up until 4am this morning.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/08/2019 20:34

Sounds like everyone's stress and anxiety are on the up. Sad

4 sleeps...

Alittewornout · 04/08/2019 14:19

2 sleeps to go! Fed up now I have to say. How is everyone getting through tomorrow? Dd meeting friends and has a ballet class early evening. Her fab big bother is going to take her to Cinema for the late night show at 1045pm in the hope she will sleep a bit when she gets home( also will give me and Dh a break from the stress!!🤣)

Aurea · 04/08/2019 14:38

I'm not doing great (constant state of anxiousness and nerves). My DS, however, is 'excited ' about learning about his fate on Tuesday. I'll get to do enough worrying for both of us, I guess. 😂

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2019 14:49

I'm struggling between the desire to get DS ready for going to Uni and trying not to mention it at all in case it doesn't happen.

He got his birthday gift early yesterday as he wanted to try it before purchasing and it seemed mad to hide it away 'til Friday so that's keeping him occupied a bit.

He also needs to tidy his room so I think that might be tomorrows task.

Alittewornout · 04/08/2019 14:55

Aurea have everything crossed for you ds. Wax I am also hoping that some room tidying and clothes purging might happen tomorrow. Hope you ds is enjoying his early birthday gift.
I am keeping busy with a pile of ironing from the hols and a family request for roast chicken for dinner!
Keep you chin up ladies we are almost there!!x

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2019 15:02

Thanks Alittle I have my fingers crossed for them all too. I'm also busying with housework and other chores.

WickedGoodDoge · 04/08/2019 15:56

DS just found out that Nando’s do a free starter or 1/4 chicken on results day. DS loves Nando’s so this makes him very happy. I suppose we’ll be launching there on Tuesday whatever his results. Grin

DS also told me today that he is “absolutely bricking it”, though just a couple of days ago he asked me when results day was. Hmm

Aurea · 04/08/2019 16:01

Well.....I've just rewaxed a jacket I've been meaning to do for ages and sorted out my knicker drawer. Hopefully that won't be the most good that comes out of the next few days.

Good luck ladies!

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/08/2019 16:07

I'm working at home on Tuesday to be there to either pick up the pieces and facilitate the formulation and execution of a plan B or briefly celebrate and help pay for organise accommodation etc.

tava63 · 04/08/2019 16:21

Hope it is ok to hop on to this thread at this late stage. We've been away for 10 days in mainland Europe (whilst it is easily done!) and that has been a great distraction. Now with two sleeps to go all slightly on edge here for DD1's Higher results.

She is currently planning to take Chemistry as a 'crash' higher in S6. She's swithering though - any one here with experience of their child taking Chemistry as a crash higher in S6 after not taking it since S2? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.
