So the 6th of August is fast approaching... here is the 2019 thread.

Ds was sitting a mixture of highers and Nat5's. So we'll see what this year brings.

I'm just grateful it's not 2 lots like last year as it was a mare.

Postie has been. 3As, 2Bs. B for Eng not anticipated, but then neither was A for History, so a mixed bag. Was ideally hoping for just the one B, but all in all a great result.

OtraCosaMariposa · 06/08/2019 11:16

FFS, DS has double checked and he has a confirmation email, not text. So he's obviously done something wrong somewhere and we'ree just going to have to wait for the postie.

Lidlfix · 06/08/2019 11:29

Whitelisbon definitely grounds for remark. A clerical check may prove an entire paper missed or some other administrative error. An A at Prelim to D at exam is unusual and her teacher would have been having a chat re Folio if a potential A candidate was submitting weak writing- well I would have been.

tava63 · 06/08/2019 11:35

Thanks everyone on this thread a great outlet for my nerves these past few days. Dd1 couldn't have done better, I'm delighted for her. I feel the pain of many others though - I didn't do well in these exams myself - with life experience we know there is so much more to getting on in life than exams and definitely having lovely parents like you lot is a big help!

OtraCosaMariposa · 06/08/2019 11:42

Well the postie's been and his results are... weird.

A in Biology, Chemistry, Maths, French and History.
B for English which he's delighted with.

D for Computing which is a total shock as he was predicted an A so something's gone badly wrong somewhere. School open tomorrow so we're going up to discuss it as he's already started on the Higher on the recommendation of the teacher (same teacher who said he'd get an A no bother). D for the external assessment part of computing too.

dementedpixie · 06/08/2019 11:44

I gave in and woke dd at 11.30 after going to body pump class. 7 A's so we're super proud. Cant believe she was still asleep tbh

Sexnotgender · 06/08/2019 11:56

@FluffytheGoldfish thank you. Yes she did! I’ve got a maths degree so was helping her too but yes, a lot of hard work and dedication from her.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2019 12:11

Some lovely new updates, we must be nearly there for everyone now.

Place in Aberdeen confirmed but can't book accommodation until tomorrow.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/08/2019 12:19

I'm still waiting, postie not been but Dd won't be here for another couple of hours anyway.
I'm pacing and wondering if it's really bad to have a drink at this time of day to calm my nerves.

Congratulations to everyone so far who has got what they needed, I so hope Dd does since this is her last year of school.

howdoyousolvethisproblem · 06/08/2019 12:45

Still no post here. DS now pacing. But said that the letter was more traditional!!!

JudgeRindersMinder · 06/08/2019 13:01

Postie has finally been here (ds didn’t sign up for email-strange boy) and brought 3B and 2C for ds’ highers. Absolutely delighted for him.
He’s doing a load of vocational amd sport related subjects in 6th year as he’s dead against going to uni, but doesn’t know what he wants to do

Gingerkittykat · 06/08/2019 13:37

As in English and Sociology and a B in psychology.

Very proud of DD, she missed so much school due to kidney failure and dialysis from 9-12 and then school refusal at high school. She saw an ed psychologist at school who said she spent so much time in hospital and home that she had missed out in huge chunks of her development so although she is bright she was socially miles behind her peers which led to her not fitting in and bullying, she officially left school at 15 but had barely attended at all.

A spell working in a call centre focused her mind on getting back to education at 20, she seems to be doing reasonably well socially too and is planning on a night out with her classmates tonight.

She's got a college place to do social sciences, I would love it if she went to uni but living away from home still too much but the HND allows her to progress in a couple of years if that is right for her.

Sexnotgender · 06/08/2019 13:43

Great results @Gingerkittykat I know the difficulties faced by chronically sick children. DD has missed so much school. So proud of what she has achieved.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/08/2019 13:46

That's wonderful Ginger.
Dd similar with school refusal and hospital admissions, plus I have a chronic illness and she has undiagnosed PDA.

Bumply · 06/08/2019 13:51

C in Advanced Higher Computing, but failed Maths and Graph Comm, so not getting into Uni.

DS2 is disappointed but not despairing and looking at HND options at college.
At least Computing is what he wants to do. Maths was always a gamble as he got D at Higher and had to campaign to be allowed to carry on and do AH (and was deemed on course in November).
Don't know what happened with Graph Comm as capable of a B (if he'd revised more) so surprised he didn't get at least a D.

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/08/2019 14:08

OMG, she did it, B for maths, she's going to college.
We're both crying!

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2019 14:11

oh that's a shame bumbly - is there nothing suitable on clearing?

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2019 14:14

fabby Brillo, that's exactly what DS2 did, failed maths then came back with a B on resit!

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/08/2019 14:15

She failed history higher, and got a D for chemistry but college only asked for the maths pass.

Gingerkittykat · 06/08/2019 14:48

@IHaveBrilloHair Well done to DD!

I'm just as excited that DD is going on a night out, she is still very much like a kid mid teens so got to celebrate every step forward!

WickedGoodDoge · 06/08/2019 15:04

DS has had his component parts sent through and it’s clear he completely and utterly messed up his Chemistry assignment. He got 15/30 for that which pulled his overall mark down to a B. Bit of a shame as every single other bit in all his Highers were As, but hey ho, hopefully he’ll be a bit more careful in future.

Ginger & Brillo well done to both your DC!

Groovee · 06/08/2019 15:05

Fab news for many. Commiserations to those who need the handhold x

RoseDog · 06/08/2019 15:13

My dd is severely dyslexic and only sat one exam Nat 5 History and she passed with a C!!

We are very proud of her, she also passed all her other subjects at the level she done, thankfully she left school and got a college place as school was not for her, too many different subjects and not enough support!

Jammiebammie · 06/08/2019 15:23

Well done to everyone, and Flowers for those who need it. Everyone has worked so hard and should be very proud of themselves.

Dd got b’s for bio & maths. But she got a D for higher English and an F for physics nat 5. She had a scribe for the English and physics as she broke her arm, but she got b’s in her prelims for them both. Is there anything we can do about it? Should have complained at the time really, she couldn’t finish the physics exam as the scribe didn’t understand what she meant and was really stressing her out, she actually had a panic attack.
Dd still has enough to get into her college course luckily, she’s chuffed with her bio and maths but pretty gutted about the other 2 understandably.

howdoyousolvethisproblem · 06/08/2019 16:03

Post finally arrived about half one and ds has got what he needed to get into Strathclyde. Such a difference from last year when there had to be lots of picking up the pieces!
