I know it's not the same course, but when DS was applying for Computing Science, Edinburgh said it's not worth applying if you are not hot on Maths as first year in particular is very Mathsy. I think Edinburgh must have a glut of Maths lecturers so are making sure they get their monies worth :o

Alittewornout · 20/12/2018 17:27

Well done to your ds wax! That must be a real confidence boost and will help keep him motivated!
Re Economics my son is doing history but is also doing a module in economics having studied AH maths. It seems to be a perfect fit with history and has opened his mind to other options. He is very glad he took Maths to AH those who didn’t are struggling a bit with the maths side of things. But that is just one uni as others have said they can all take a slightly different slant.x

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/12/2018 17:47

Thanks Alittle I still don't think he can quite believe it, he's gone in today and said thank you to his teachers and the person who supported his application which is lovely but I'm also trying to say to him that he needs to take credit himself too! Driving test tomorrow - eek!

Alittewornout · 20/12/2018 18:28

He should be very proud of himself! Good luck for the driving test tomorrow, let us know how he gets on!x🤞

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/12/2018 18:38

Thanks, will do. I've told him there are only two results, pass or fail and either is ok. As it's only the first time sitting, statistically he's not as likely to pass as fail.

Groovee · 20/12/2018 21:03

Ds is re doing maths and got 93% in his latest practice paper at school. The tutor is helping

Aurea · 21/12/2018 12:41

That's a great mark. The future bodes well.

readsalotgirl63 · 21/12/2018 22:01

Congratulations to your ds Aurea - you must be very pleased. Dd would thoroughly recommend Glasgow

Aurea · 22/12/2018 08:22

Thanks Readsalot.

Next stage offer days to decide. Smile

prettybird · 23/12/2018 10:18

That's brilliant news Wax Smile (Only just seen this as the thread had dropped off my "Threads I'm on" Blush)

What did your ds apply for in the end?

You're right, ds was rejected by Dundee, despite his at the time unconditional from Strathclyde and before he got his unconditional from Aberdeen (neither of which he was expecting, so I'm sure it was down to the PS).

I'm sure your ds will be ultra motivated to get those 2 Bs Grin

Happy to advise on Uni accommodation etc Xmas Smile as and when you need it. He should also keep an eye on his UCAS account - I know of at least two lots of people (different Unis though) whose dcs hadn't got the required results but when they rang clearing were told, "You've not logged in recently, have you?" as their offers had been changed to Unconditional weeks before the results came out Confused

WaxOnFeckOff · 23/12/2018 11:21

Thanks @prettybird yes, he is motivated and the offer of help with accommodation info is appreciated :) He's also applied to Stirling X 2, Dundee and an outside choice of Strathclyde just to fill up the form. Don't think he's heard anything else but will check with him later. He didn't pass his driving test but wasn't far away. Just trying to fit in a resit round his prelims.

Alittewornout · 02/01/2019 11:37

Happy New Year everyone! Wishing all our DC success in all they do but more importantly health and happiness in the coming year. Good luck to those sitting prelims this month and to the parents/ carers who support them.xx

howabout · 02/01/2019 14:00

Happy New Year everyone! Very peaceful house here with both DC studying so fingers crossed for prelims for them and all the others in the same boat.

WickedGoodDoge · 02/01/2019 16:42

Happy New Year from me as well! Also have DS studying for prelims though he has gone into Edinburgh today so is having a bit of a break. If everyone could channel thoughts of no snow for the middle of January (so he can get to the prelims!) it would be greatly appreciated. Grin

Groovee · 02/01/2019 17:09

Ds has been studying. Dd feels lost as she has nothing to do and has never experienced this before 😂

WickedGoodDoge · 02/01/2019 18:15

Well the batshit crazy boy just messaged me to say he is on his way home now but that he’d walked to Fairmilehead (from Haymarket- I hope, and not Waverley!). It must have taken him at least an hour- don’t know why he didn’t just ask for a lift there (30 minutes max from us) or asked which bus to get from the Centre. Plus he’s in shoes that hurt his feet. Batshit.

Groovee · 02/01/2019 19:32

He sounds like my Dd. She'd go on ridiculous walks like up Corstorphine Hill in white converse then be upset as they were muddy!

WickedGoodDoge · 02/01/2019 20:40

Turns out there was a girl involved. Grin I’d suspected as much (shower/shave/good clothes/upstairs stinking of deodorant) and DH confirmed it (they got the train home together). I’m being good mum and not asking him as he’s being deliberately vague but he walked his “friend” home. From the centre of town. To Fairmilehead. Then got the bus back into town. Grin

And here I’m posting all about it on Mumsnet- no wonder he’s not telling me. Grin Grin Grin

Groovee · 02/01/2019 21:02

🤣😂🤣😂

Aurea · 09/01/2019 12:05

Law offer from Oxford just came through for my DS. Trinity College. Needs AAB at Advanced Higher to satisfy the conditions.

Can't quite believe it........SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

howabout · 09/01/2019 12:08

Congratulations. Smile

Thank you for sharing. Will definitely be telling all my lot and their friends to aim high based on your DSs' progress.

ClerkMaxwell · 09/01/2019 12:24

Great news Aurea. Plus sensible conditions (AAB).

WickedGoodDoge · 09/01/2019 12:27

Oh wow, Aurea that’s fantastic!

Groovee · 09/01/2019 12:39

That's good news.

Ds went back today. He used to be great at getting up. Every day is a struggle.

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/01/2019 13:48

that's brilliant news Aurea, he's clearly knocked their socks off. Fingers crossed for those results now!

DS went back to school on Monday, he has all his prelims plus his driving test next week - eek!
