Edinburgh meet up?

ocelot41 · 10/09/2016 07:32

On a couple of other threads it seems like a few of us have recently moved to Edinburgh and fancied a meet up. Some longstanding Edinburghers also said they would be up for a pint/wine/dram/coffee and cake to say hi.

I said I would be happy to organise it when I got here if no one else wanted to and well, I am here! The bags are (sort of) unpacked, DS has started school, and my new job at uni starts soon.

Please post if you want to come for a meet!

Hmm. Not sure I'll be able to drag myself out in the evening this close to my due date... But would certainly be up for a lunch or coffee meet-up some time!

purplefox · 14/09/2016 22:19

I can't do evenings, as I have no childcare, therefore no life Grin

ocelot41 · 14/09/2016 23:20

OK, how's about we pick one eve for those who work ft and want Wine

And one Sat or Sun meet in the big play park on the Meadows for those who prefer a day time slot?

I have limited availability but will lurk on the thread in case I can make it - have met Stats before and would love to meet Prettybird even although we disagree on a fair few things Wink

Noofly · 15/09/2016 10:14

I think that's a good idea, ocelot.

ocelot41 · 16/09/2016 15:39

OK. How about 7pm on Th 22nd for the evening posse? Should give everyone a chance to get in? Is central ish best for everyone or do the WLo folks prefer West End/SW?

SciFiFan2015 · 16/09/2016 15:52

How will we know each other?

hidingwithwine · 16/09/2016 16:02

Just had time to read this - I'm in Fife but not exactly sociable Blush. Have a good time folks!

Noofly · 16/09/2016 17:40

The 22nd should be fine. It's DH's 40th birthday but I think he'll be away off playing football as usual that evening. Grin

Central or West End is fine for me- I'd likely be getting the train in that case. If more SW I'll drive- doesn't matter to me.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/09/2016 19:47

Central or West End best for me too - walkable for me - and I can do the 22nd

slippermum · 16/09/2016 20:21

Am in too, were and when? Edinburger born and bred, just not a big poster on Mumsnet more of a Lurkio lol!

madgingermunchkin · 17/09/2016 19:24

Would love to be able to join you for that, but will be on day 12 of 12 in a row and working til 2am. Have a lovely evening ladies!

ocelot41 · 17/09/2016 19:49

Great, that's a goodly posse, if not everyone. Can any resident Edinburghers recommend nice pubs centrally or in W End which won't be too rammed on a Th?

madgingermunchkin · 17/09/2016 20:13

You could always come and visit me at work
The Branble bar dies very good cocktails, though is quite small and a bit dark and dingy.
Panda and sons also does a very good cocktail list.
The printing press is also nice, but pricey.
Or the Dome is another option.

I'm sure the others will have better suggestions. I only seem to end up in bars on dates

madgingermunchkin · 17/09/2016 20:14

*Bramble bar!

TheTurtleMoves · 17/09/2016 20:16

A Saturday or Sunday on the Meadows sometime would be great.

Prob won't make Thursday evening this time but depending on what kind of vibe you are after, I quite like www.tigerlilyedinburgh.co.uk - it's West End of George Street, slightly glam feeling bar. Though equally, lots of proper honest old school pubs round there too, if Tiger Lily is a bit too fussy for folk.

TheTurtleMoves · 17/09/2016 20:17

It's plus points are:

  1. good cocktails.
  2. lots of seats
  3. unlikely to be rammed
  4. quite often has some sort of deal on (241 etc)
TheTurtleMoves · 17/09/2016 20:19

Bramble bar and The Dome are also good suggestions! Seems the cocktail vibe is shared!

Though it's worth saving a trip to the Dome til nearer Christmas as it is the most Christmassy experience, short of getting drunk with actual Father Christmas himself.

TheTurtleMoves · 17/09/2016 20:28

At the other end of Princes Street, near Waverley, I like www.caferoyaledinburgh.co.uk - more of a pub than a bar, but quite beautiful (nice tiles!) but does get busy... You could reserve a table though.

clearly I'm over-invested in a night I'm not even going to be at. Please post updates on the night so I can live vicariously through you all

god I miss Wine

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2016 20:39

Foundry 39 on Queensferry Street has opened recently, supposed to be nice and doesn't seem to be rammed when I pass it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2016 20:41

BTW there is an Edinburgh mumsnet local meet up section, maybe once venue is chosen we should pop details over there, lots of people don't visit Scotsnet?

ocelot41 · 17/09/2016 20:50

TigerLily looks good to me (looks sceptically through wardrobe to see if can find anything cool enough to wear). Does anyone know if they will let us book tables? And YY to Edinburgh section - I didn't know anyone really visited that. The couple of times I popped on, it looked a bit tumbleweed central. But could have just caught it on a bad day... also up for a Meadows meet on a Sat or Sun, maybe the play park near the Causewayside end. What date suits folk for that?

OP posts:
madgingermunchkin · 17/09/2016 21:14

I def can't do any Sat, but could do Sunday with at least a weeks notice.

BankWadger · 17/09/2016 21:39

If it's within easy distance of Waverly or Haymarket I'll try to make the 22nd. Don't finish work til 6pm and have an hour on the train, but I'm off work the 23rd so can manage a few hours (as long as I'm home for the school run in the morning!)

Cocktails sound great.

prettybird · 17/09/2016 21:52

Tigerlily does good bottles of Prosecco Grin

not that I was introduced to buying Prosecco by the bottle at previous MN meetups there Blush
