My dd1 is in s4 and about to sit 8 Nat5s. I don't know who is more wound up about it - her or me! (and I'm a teacher!!).

Wondered if there's anyone else out there to hold hands with?

DD is sitting English, Maths, Ghaidlig (Gaelic native speaker), French, History, Art & Design, Physics and Design & Manufacture. First is English on 5th May.

Schools threat?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 14:56

A bit updated now:

Thank you for the link.

For goodness sake!

On a lighter note Grin at the Magnum talk.

DS was pleased with the physics paper. Hoping for an A - but he doesn't usually underestimate his grades so we'll see.

weegiemum · 24/05/2016 15:03

Haven't heard anything about that here.

but theres been a major incident on one of the 2 ways our dc can take to school - its about 100m as the crow flies from our house, and i spent all morning listening to the sirens!

just waiting to hear from dd1 as physics is just finishing!

God weegie that looks terrible 😧

Physics seems to have gone well. I got a "fine" when I asked ,which is high praise from teenager.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 15:13

Yes, saw about that incident too. Seems to have involved a couple of diggers as well as cars :(

I heard about the threats as a colleague messaged me to ask if i'd heard anything as she'd had a text from her daughter's primary saying all was well but hadn't heard from her son's secondary. Police Scotland had tweeted about it. Our council updated their site and FB page 3 hours later with no actual info... Hmm

I was wondering if it was the Scottish version of the threats in England yesterday which seem to have been part of a scam to avoid exams I believe.

weegiemum · 24/05/2016 15:16

dd1 is being ok about the exam - she says she didn't "fail miserably" Grin

Physics Nat 5 was "pretty good" according to DS.

prettybird · 24/05/2016 15:35

Still waiting for ds to get home.....Hmm

No chance of feedback by phone or textGrin

prettybird · 24/05/2016 16:33

He's home: don't know how it went because he "came out of the Prelim thinking he'd failed and was actually 3rd in the year with 86 or 86%", so because if that won't predict if it was ok this time.

I think he thinks it was an A as he went on to say that the only A he cares which precise percentage he gets is Maths, as he wants to be sure to stay in the top set next year (and the class size is going down to 20).

We then proceeded to have an argument as I was saying there's no shame in a B particularly in Physics as even his own cousin (Head of Physics at another secondary) has talked of his frustration in marking as they're not allowed to award marks if the specified words haven't been used even if the candidate has demonstrated complete understanding Hmm

Only one more to go! Smile

Groovee · 24/05/2016 17:29

Glad Physics went ok.

Dd is ill. Not sure if it's her reflux or a bug. She has her drama exam tomorrow. Hoping it's just reflux and meds kick in soon.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 18:04

Oh dear groovee hope she feels better soon x

PurpleFrog · 24/05/2016 18:10

OneMagnum - I am disappointed. I always thought your name referred to champagne not choc ices. You are obviously not as posh as I thought! Grin

HamletsSister · 24/05/2016 18:15

DS is finished!!!!! Yay. Advanced Higher Physics was good, but tight for time.

He is doing 3 more Advanced Highers so has to get back on the treadmill on Monday - poor bugger. DD starts 5 Highers then.

I took him out for lunch but he mostly just seems tired.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 18:25

Hah purple. No, not posh. It goes back to my pregnancy days where I had a total craving for them. They tended to have the boxes of 3 on bogof. I'd eat one, which wasn't enough, so I'd eat another. Then it would be obvious I'd eaten two so I'd eat the third and make it look like I'd only bought one box. Then I'd realise I could have another and it'd only look like I'd eaten one.... :o Blush

hidingwithwine · 24/05/2016 18:26

Glad physics went well and particularly glad we haven't got physics on the agenda here this year after the stress it caused at N5 🙈.

DS' last higher is Mods on Monday. I emailed his teacher today who was also MY Mods Higher teacher and he sent me lots of essay pointers/info for DS. This was at DS' request, to save him going into school and back just to ask that question taking into account our crappy rural bus service etc.

And I thought that teacher was ancient back then, too Grin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 18:26

Your's back on Monday Hamlets? We have another week to go.

Well done in your house though. Over for another year. Still 2 to go here. W are getting there.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 18:27

hiding he was probably in his 30s :o

hidingwithwine · 24/05/2016 18:57

More likely fresh out of uni, Magnum Wink. I sat my Higher Mods wayyyyy back am very very old

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 19:08

I sat my highers in 1983 - i'm old too.

prettybird · 24/05/2016 19:12

Mere youngsters Grin

unlucky83 · 24/05/2016 20:38

Glad physics seemed to go well - DD wasn't doing physics but had good friends who were ...she said she doesn't know how they did - even though she got the bus home with them as they don't talk about stuff like that Confused
She's also got drama tomorrow - it is the last one - yay!
She has next week off as well...I can't wait to get back to normal!
Not sure what they will do for the last month though- do they start their new timetable? what happens if they fail/do better than expected and have to change?

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 20:44

We were told that they start their new timetable and any adjustments to classes are made in August when they go back - there can be a lot of movement!

hidingwithwine · 24/05/2016 20:46

After Mods next Monday my DS has another week of study leave - he's naffing off over to the West coast with a bunch of mates to stay in a friend's caravan lucky sod When he goes back on the 7th he'll go into S6, and DD into S4 Shock

OneMagnumisneverenough · 24/05/2016 20:52

DS2 moved into S4 when the study leave started. Ds1 back to start S5 on the 6th. He wont get his timetable until then and I don't know if he's been put into the Higher class for Graph Comm or not as he was only told to put down the subjects, not the level. I'm wondering now if his pupil support teacher may be quietish given that there will be less classes on? Might try and give her a ring and see if she can tell me anything.
