what *ONE* piece of advice would you want to pass on to your daughter

if you could only give one piece of advice what would it be?

having spoken to so many women over the years and to me the most important piece of inromation i can give her is to respect herself and never to allow anyone to treat her in any other way.

what would yours be?

I agree - respect yourself.

If I'm allowed more I tell her to treat others as she would like to be treated. If you're going to do something do it properly. Love life because it's precious.

Just one piece of advice? That's so hard but I suppose the one thing would be:

Whatever the issue, always take your time to make a decision so that you feel comfortable with it.

And save your money so you can escape if necessary (whoops slipped in another bit there!).

As far as relationships go, men are people too, don't pay too much attention to the supposed differences in the sexes and make sure you have plenty of male friends.

The point being that you will never then think it is 'normal' to be treated badly/cheated on/scorned in public/lied to/whatever - you will always know that that is only some of them (and the ones to run away from), and not all of them (and so inevitable)

To enjoy the here and now rather than wishing for tomorrow and always thinking ahead. One day, tomorrow will not come.

have confidence in yourself, but not at the expense of others.

never eat anything bigger than your head.

Other than respect yourself make sure you can always support and look after yourself, financially and emotionally.

Agree with natty about other peoples opinions, I would also say always make lists they help you with every aspect of life.

FWIW, I asked my grown up son what was the best advice I ever gave him, expecting some real gem of wisdom to reassure me that I was a major influence in his life.
Quick as a flash he came back at me with
"Never walk backwards into a crowd!!!!"

never put yourself down as there are plenty of others waiting to do it for you.

my art teacher told me this when i was about 14 and i have never forgotten it.
