Husband caught messaging other woman

I woke up thismorning and saw some messages on my DHs phone from his friends girlfriend. I didn’t think much of it at first but then something felt off. I asked him about it and at first he gave me two different explanations about why he was talking and how it was very short and one worded answers. I asked to look at the messages and they have been talking constantly for 3 weeks, hundreds on messages on Snapchat, voice notes, winky emojis etc. I became so upset and throw his phone down on the sofa and when I asked to see the messages again he refused and told me I needed to calm down, he said he wouldn’t let me look again until later. They have been messaging throughout the night when I have been asleep. This girl is 19 and my DH is in his 30s. One of the voice notes from her to my DH says “why don’t you want to talk to meeee” in a whiney voice but then he has been talking to her and continuously talking to her. They have also sent photos of random things to eachother like funny photos and things. The conversation from what I saw looked slightly flirty but nothing completely obvious of being unfaithful.

he has admitted it was wrong but also has got cross with me about how upset I feel. He went to give me a hug and I turned away and he smirked and laughed and tried to invalidate my feelings.

im so sad and feel like i am overreacting.

He says I am over reacting and if I don’t trust him now our relationship should be over! He says I have no reason not to trust him.

Tell him it's over then ! He is saying this because he obviously doesn't think u wud leave him ! That's why he isn't reacting scared he thinks he can get away with it
He is deffo a wrong en !
Best thing is dump him sometimes people show u who they are and him messaging her whilst u asleep in bed is disrespectful it won't stop he conditioning u to accept bad behaviour x

Point out that he's just given you every reason not to trust him and don't treat me as if I'm stupid, sunshine.

WizdomE · 23/09/2026 13:42

If it’s harmless, ask him would he be comfortable showing his mate the messages? If not he has his answer.

GiveOverRover · 23/09/2026 13:46

BansheeOfTheSouth · 23/09/2026 13:33

Girlfriend not daughter.

Apologies, his friend's girlfriend, old enough to be his daughter. My mistake.

FlowersInPots · 23/09/2026 13:53

Don’t tell him but call his friend, tell him you’ve found messages between his gf and your DH and think they’re cheating.

Wait a while and see what happens. My guess is his friend will confront the gf and possibly your DH and your H will explode about being caught out. And you can acknowledge that if he hadn’t done anything wrong, he wouldn’t care that his friend knew and no one would be upset would they?

Im sorry OP. Chances are it’s not physical but he’s still disrespecting you and not acting like a happily married, loyal husband.
Doesn’t make you feel comfortable about what his actions would be if he had the chance to cheat does it?

Oh also, tell a close friend or family member. You don’t need to keep it a secret for him and you need support that is away from him.

She's 19, he is in his 30s. He could be 31/32. Hardly old enough to be her dad.

cartagenagina · 23/09/2026 13:56

You aren’t over reacting but yes, the relationship is over. You can’t trust him so that’s the end of it really.

I would tell the friend what you found and get legal advice.

whatasituationisthis · 23/09/2026 13:57

@WizdomE at first he said his friend is aware but then when I asked again he seemed unsure.

No she’s his friends girlfriend! Not son. His friend is much younger than him.

I wonder would he be OK with his friend knowing about all the contact they're having 🤔

ginasevern · 23/09/2026 13:59

@whatasituationisthis "he said he wouldn’t care if he found them on my phone!"

No, he probably wouldn't. Because he doesn't give a shit about you.

I may be mistaken, but I don't view whether it's his daughter or his girlfriend, or the precise age of the middle aged man who's inappropriately messaging her is the issue here, is it?

Does it make it more palatable for you if he's 31 not 36? Is it alright if she's his mates girlfriend, not his mate's daughter? Is OP overreacting in any of those circumstances?

BansheeOfTheSouth · 23/09/2026 14:05

@GiveOverRover I've already said to get rid of him. At the very least he's having an emotional affair.

Making it sound worse that he's a middle aged man messaging his friend's daughter doesn't help @whatasituationisthis.

Is he thick. Those messages are reason not to trust him. You don't trust him because he has shown you that he is untrustworthy.

We'll have to disagree there, I don't think either is worse, it's just nominally different.

No she’s his friends girlfriend! Not son. His friend is much younger than him.

Presumably he'll be fine with you filling in his friend then about these communications with his GF?

outerspacepotato · 23/09/2026 14:15

Let him go blow up his life for a teenager. He thinks there will be no consequences to this and that comes from an immature mindset. If he does blow up his life, he's not worth having as a husband.

A near middle aged man going after his friend's GF who is still in her teens, well, he's awful. He's checked out of your marriage for a teen that will drain him. He's betraying both you and his friend.

Do you have kids?

Get a lawyer consult and get papers ready to file.

whatasituationisthis · 23/09/2026 14:24

@BeEagerRubyBird He seems to think his friend won’t mind and he knows but then on the other hand he said he will have to talk to his friend and get him to stop her messaging him.

they also went on holiday as a group at the start of the month and the messaging started shortly after that. They are due to go away together again in a couple of weeks and I said I’m uncomfortable with that if she is going to be there.

Are you saying your husband went on holiday with only his friend and girlfriend? Or a much larger group of friends and partners?

The former suggests the boyfriend knows all about the "friendship" and he and your husband are closer friends than you think.

whatasituationisthis · 23/09/2026 14:34

@BansheeOfTheSouth No it was a big group of them. Usually a boys holiday but his friend brought along his girlfriend this time, they had only met once briefly before this.

OP posts:
flubber975 · 23/09/2026 14:44

And if you throw a spanner in the works regarding the holiday (which you’re perfectly right to do) he will be the poor little victim again and you’ll be the controlling nagging wife. It’s all such a sad, predictable story op. Only you can decide if you want to live with such a disrespectful, lying snake.

GreyCarpet · 23/09/2026 14:45

whatasituationisthis · 23/09/2026 13:22

Could they maybe just be friends?

It really depends on what you definition of a friend is.

Because what a lot of men in these situations mean when they describe a woman as just a 'friend' is that they havent had sex (yet).

Not that they are actual friends. Not that they aren't flirting. Not that he wouldn't shag her given half the chance. Etc.
