Boyfriend’s hair fetish is affecting our sex life and future together

I've just found out that my new boyfriend (7 months in) has a hair fetish and he has just told me that he is unable to get an erection without fantasising about a hairdresser's chair, cape, women getting really long hair cut to short hair, no hair, some women getting forced to have their hair cut or cut shorter than they wanted it. There's more but I think that's enough and gives a good enough picture. He also follows lots of online hair fetishing accounts showing hair getting chopped off, sometimes the women are crying.

He says he's not really bothered about having sex and doesn't really get turned on, but gets turned on if a partner talks about being at the hairdresser and he is pleasuring them secretly under the cape etc. Or watching the haircuts.

I was wondering why he didn't want sex with me. He almost falls over himself if he sees a woman in public with really long hair. All ages. It's getting really boring. And very frustrating for me!!!!

We are both middle aged and although I care for him a lot, I can't see a sexless future for me while he gets fulfilment from all of this in his head, watching stuff online instead of having healthy sex with me.

I've tried a bit of role playing but it's so boring and not much really happened. I have fairly long hair but it doesn't seem to turn him on. And when he does start touching it, I now feel repulsed.

I've started noticing other men and fantasising about them. I just want normal, healthy and passionate sex. I need to talk to him. I really care about him and don't want to lose our friendship. I don't know whether to suggest an open relationship or that we simply remain friends and he finds a hair situation and I find normal.

This is real for people who are thinking WTH 🙃Anyone been through this or similar?

He needs therapy, not sex.

I'd get out of there OP.

Run.

BleedinglyObvious · Today 10:43

Bin him

Mulledjuice · Today 10:43

Get out.

Apart from anything else his fetish is about women being coerced/humiliated/disappointed?

zanahoria · Today 10:44

Don't overthink his fantasies, they are harmless enough but if it is not for you then do not pander to them.

SharkyBait · Today 10:44

This won’t change. So you either accept a sexless future with a man strangely obsessed with hair, or you move on and find someone reasonably normal who wants the same as you. I know what I would choose.

AmberSpy · Today 10:45

It's not going to get better with this one. Bin him and honestly I wouldn't bother trying to maintain the friendship either.

Waitingfordoggo · Today 10:45

As PP said, the fetish is not so much about hair, as about women being humiliated/upset/something happening without their consent. That would be a huge red flag for me and I’d be out of there.

TallSturdyGirls · Today 10:45

Bye bye new weird boyfriend

HinzKunz · Today 10:46

This is very weird! The fact he seems to be more turned on if the women are not consenting and are crying is quite disturbing.

throw him back!! It’s only been 7 months.

agree with this about the humiliation/coercion aspect of his fetish with the forced hair cutting. That would be very concerning.

apart from that, you’re allowed to want a sex life and to end things with anyone who doesn’t fit with that (or anything else you want in life). Throw this one back, he can’t provide what you want.

zanahoria · Today 10:47

I always get the impression that some fantasies are more about control, getting the other person to forget their own wants and needs and play out out a subservient role.

MJEBinAthens · Today 10:48

You already know what to do! 😜

Screamingabdabz · Today 10:49

I’d wash that man right outta your hair. And send him on his way.

Gardenisablooming · Today 10:50

I'd be tempted to take a huge pair of scissors to bed. Wouldn't be hair I'd be chopping off...
*lighthearted.

Agree with this. The hair thing is weird and boring but the lack of consent being his big turn on is worrying.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Maleficent, but she has her wings cut off while she’s sleeping and her reaction to it is harrowing. It was seen as a metaphor for rape. Given that cutting someone’s hair without their consent can be considered assault, he gets off on women being assaulted. Are you ok with that?

Ilovecheeseyah · Today 10:50

I know a family member has this - I don’t think it makes for a happy life. Listen quietly to your heart it will be your best messenger not us.
you sound a lovely, caring person, I am sure you have much to give someone who is a bit more on your wavelength x

ThatWriterInTheCorner · Today 10:51

At least he's been honest. Now you don't have to waste time wondering what you can do to improve your sex life.

Don't spend one more second thinking about this. You're simply not compatible. Bin him off and move on.

nomorekitchenislandsplease · Today 10:54

Just leave him. He may have many good qualities but that's not really the point.

IsaTheIguana · Today 11:04

This would give me the ick. Id rather be alone personally.

Gettingbysomehow · Today 11:06

I cant stand these fetish idiots. My ex husband was one and everything was about him and his sodding fetish. Throw him back into the Mariana trench along with all the other weird fish.
He will make your life a misery.

tsmainsqueeze · Today 11:08

Urghhhhh -he sounds repulsive , weird and scary .

moderate · Today 11:15

Get rid of him.

Even if he "just" had a fetish for coercing/humiliating/disappointing women I would say: get rid of him. But if he can't get an erection any other way, it means you're not even in the room.
