Has anyone found ChatGPT too sympathetic towards an ex?

Asq · 14/06/2026 15:49

I have started using chat GPT to go over my relationship with my ex as certain things still bother me a lot and I never had anyone to talk to about it at the time. I have started using chat GPT to write down how I felt and go over situations I felt were wrong, but it often seems to “side” with him, I don’t know if that’s the correct term but it often seems to sympathise a lot with him. Is this normal? I have even said to it a few times that I felt like it was siding with him. I don’t want to say what the things are as the great reason for chat GPT is it doesn’t judge me for things, but is this anyone else’s experience?

yet people seem to forget those very same servers, are used for eg the internet, mumsnet, facebook, netflix etc so why the hate on the water for Ai but not for everthing else that uses the servers ?

They are NOT the same servers, and not the same datacentres.

Servers for non-AI workloads don't have GPUs, consume vastly less power, and therefore don't need water cooling - most traditional datacentres don't even have the facilities to water cool servers.

A rack of regular non-GPU servers will consume a maximum of 10kW (about the same as an electric shower). These are the servers that a serving websites, netflix, facebook etc.

A rack of GPU-equipped servers is rated at 50-150kW, and due to the way that AI workloads work, it will be at peak consumption much of the time. That's the same as 140 1-bar electric fires, hence the need for water cooling and massive new datacentres with high capacity links to the grid.

Oh dear.

We are fucked.

Have you read the thread?

basically the vast majority is telling the OP to pretty much stop the chat gpt nonsense

15minsofrowing · 15/06/2026 13:21

I am raising children and “i have a busy and a active social life”

How old are your children @Asq ? What’s the split with your ex in terms of the children?

Asq · 15/06/2026 13:23

wont* be posting too much details as it’s outing but he doesn’t see them.

Only it does which is what my whole thread is about

But when it has challenged you to think differently ie that your ex is not as heinous as you think he is, you have disagreed with it and think it’s “too sympathetic”

Please say you’re getting maintenance?

Do you ever see him?

how old are the kids?

Asq · 15/06/2026 13:27

No the kids don’t see him neither do I, I don’t want to say their ages. He does not pay maintenance and I don’t want it anyway.

Not ages but are they at nursery or school ever?

You don’t want maintenance ? That’s money for your children !! If you don’t work you must be surviving on benefits when CMS could improve opportunities for your kids

Asq · 15/06/2026 13:32

Where did I say I don’t work, im not going into too much personal details as I don’t want to out myself on here.

“Cooking cleaning and looking after our kids all day”

sorry I read that to mean you didn’t work

If I was going to therapy would you say I needed a life or to get out more? This is just free therapy as not everyone can afford to pay

If he paid towards his children, you might be able to afford RL therapy for yourself, which would actually be in your children’s interests anyway.

All I am saying is that to not bother about him paying his way seems cutting your nose off to spite your face and your children’s too.

ask chat gpt if you should claim!

So he lives in your head 24/7 for free, you’re burning through the earth’s resources obsessing over everything (having burned through your friends and family) but you’ve let him off his parental responsibilities entirely.

make it make sense.

Asq · 15/06/2026 15:41

Well at least im not using it to make silly pictures 🤷‍♀️

If he was contributing to your kids’ needs you could use the cash you save for actual therapy.

Asq · 14/06/2026 16:13

Oh I see maybe it’s that then, I will try telling it to be less sympathetic towards him as no one else is irl so I don’t think it’s a me issue

So you want it to tell you that you're right, even if you're wrong?

For goodness sake. This is one of the reasons why AI is so fucking dangerous.

saraclara · 15/06/2026 15:50

Seriously, I signed an online leaving pot thing for a colleague who's leaving after many years. I swear that half the people who left a message used AI to do it. Totally not the way they normally speak, or the kind of things they'd normally write in a card.

Give it a decade and people won't even know how to write a sentence from their own head

So you know cheating and abuse are wrong. What could you possibly need to discuss beyond that?

AI is programmed to validate you and be as agreeable as possible. The only thing it won't do is give you information that it knows to be factually incorrect (although it does make frequent mistakes).

I also sometimes use it to process arguments and every now and then I have to ask it to stop just validating my point of view because I need to look at it more neutrally in order to resolve the issue, at which point it might say- and even then, worded in a very sympathetic way- where I've given mixed messages or the other person may have had a point.

If you're managing to take offense at an AI bot then I'm afraid the problem is definitely you.

saraclara · 15/06/2026 16:06

Due to the paywall, I can't read that article. But the first sentence is visible and as depressing as hell.
