Pretty much as the title says , newish partner admits to taking ecstasy on nights out with their friends, obviously an illegal class A drug and leaves them shattered and low the next day.

reason enough to leave them?

God I’d get rid of- who on earth wants to be with a druggie? You can do better than this.

it’s not just the drug use it’s the whole situation of exploitation and crime and she’s funding this

get rid

Exactly this. How naive to talk of MDMA being ‘lovely and pretty harnless’. I guess weed even lovelier and more harmless?

Tell that to Olivia Pratt-Korbel’s family. The murdering scumbag that did away with her was ‘just’ a cannabis dealer.

Starlight7080 · 06/03/2026 19:02

Bloody hell how sad . She needs to grow up . I thought you were going to say she was 22

Cannabis is also lovely and usually pretty harmless. Neither substance should be illegal IMO - prohibition of drugs causes drug dealers and drug crime, not the drug itself.

No, both in our 50s actually !
Im M partner is F - she goes out dancing/ clubbing on Saturday night etc ( not for me ) and is knackered on Sunday and not really fit for anything

I think I’m going to end it over this really

Taking E in your 50s is grim. Would be a no.from me

That’s not the point.

They are illegal and using them sustains and drives the associated crime.

ExhaustedButHere · 06/03/2026 19:10

That would be a hard no for me, personally. As PPs said in 20s can kind of see it with living life a bit and trying things but now it’s just a bit sad.

Socialising with people on drugs is also boring AF. No thanks.

I use to think this about cannabis until someone i know ended up with schizophrenia

Itsmetheflamingo · 06/03/2026 19:12

well, that’s your decision obviously. Some people wouldn’t care, some would, some would join in. iME e is quite popular in middle age, particularly with people who have given up boozing

No she is 53 this year- she was a clubber / raver before marriage / kids etc , but now divorced and her kids are older/ with father some weekends etc - I think she looking to relive/ recapture some of that with a couple of her GFs who are in the same kinda age / situation really

That doesn't change that it's usually pretty harmless
I have smoked it for 27 years with no ill effects. I'm not going to deprive myself because a small number of other people get serious mental illness from smoking it.

WednesdaysChild73 · 06/03/2026 19:35

I think I know this woman 🤣🤣🤣

I’d dump. I don’t take recreational drugs, never have, and as I have a long friendship with a close mate who is in border force she would end our friendship if I had a relationship with a drug user of any kind.

Plus I think people who take drugs are boring.

How many people do you know who take drugs? Saying that anyone who uses drugs is boring is such a sweeping statement 😂

I've been known to enjoy the odd recreational drug in my time. I also have a career i feel passionate about and multiple hobbies that I actively engage in. I wouldnt say I'm boring.

surprisebaby12 · 06/03/2026 19:55

Yes, but it depends on your values. Personally Id see it as a sign of immaturity if they are still doing nights out and taking drugs, but if you’re young and they’re single/childless then there’s like harm

Don't you care about the kids being caught up in county lines??
All OK as long as you get your fix.
Cannabis is a shit drug often seen as harmless until it causes an acute phsycotic episode and your MH is irreparably damaged.

Peonies12 · 06/03/2026 19:58

You don’t need others to tell you you what to do. If you don’t like it, that’s fine, just end it. But dont shame her for having a good time. MDMA is far less of an issue than alcohol, in our society

It’s not about shame , if she wants to take MDMA that’s her business not mine - but we only get to see each other every other weekend really and it seems to wipe her out - so one weekend day can be a writeoff if she is out the night before

I know she keeps a few pills at her home sometimes and her kids are there every other week- so it’s more about the lack of personal responsibility or accountability I suppose that is getting to me

Yes. Absolutely yes. 1000 times yes

Any drugs, smoking/vaping/drinking

BIG no from me

From all these things comes drama or worse....

rainbowsparkle28 · 06/03/2026 20:20

For me it’s a hard line no, any involvement with it is one of the few immediate things I would end it for, especially if a new relationship.

Insane.

You would not say that if you saw what it did to young adults/teenagers and families on a daily basis

Every single person i have encountered in my job (which is tens of thousands by now) who smoked canibis has been danaged by it physically, mentally, financially or socially.

I have never heard such tosh in my life. You will be affected somehow. But if you admit that then you have no argument

I can’t stop coming back and reading this to ROTFL at the “close mate in border force who will end our friendship” 😭 it’s ticked the hell out of me

daotaomao · 06/03/2026 20:25

YABU if it's only once in a while. regularly - maybe not

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 06/03/2026 20:33

You’re posting so you’re bothered. That’s enough really. Don’t try to be the “cool girl*” and pretend you’re fine with it when you’re not.
Drugs are one of those things that some people are more opposed to than other people are and for lots of different reasons. If you’d seen drugs destroy lives first hand for example, no one would be so quick to tell you you’re being OTT.
Figure out where your red line is and stay true to it.
*apologies- cool guy

What decade are we in? I haven't dropped an "E" since the early naughties. Do people still do that stuff?
