I’m done being single, in the new year I really want to concentrate on finding someone. What are the best apps to use and any advice? Also which to avoid.

Unfortunately I’ve tried them all and had no luck at all, been on plenty of dates but nothing come of them, it may work for you though. I’m going to concentrate on trying to find someone a different way in the new year.

HappyTalkingAndLaughing · 23/12/2025 17:41

Same... got absolutely nowhere on the apps - POF... Tinder...FB....Bumble...Fitness Singles.

Best way is to fulfil your life by doing things you enjoy and hopefully it will happen naturally... although hasn't for me!

pinenuts75 · 23/12/2025 18:07

I was chatting to one guy in the week, we sent quite a few messages and he just come out with “this site is s**t isn’t it” I just replied yes it is 😂 then he messaged me his phone number, safe to say I haven’t used it 😂

rainbowsinheaven · 23/12/2025 18:08

Why @pinenuts75he sounds quite normal?

Why @pinenuts75he sounds quite normal?

Because we were messaging back and forwards quite a few lengthy messages, then he messaged that.

Err...he was suggesting messaging off the site/app instead? What's wrong with that?

Well that’s for the positivity 🤣 I’m joking! But online dating is the only way for me I don’t get out much and when I do men don’t approach me

I also don't understand. The sites are shit... which is why you exchange numbers to message off site.

Ok take it back, the sites are amazing and when a guy messages you in one sentence, after you have been messaging quite a bit, “this site is shit isn’t it” he’s definitely a keeper 🙄

🤣 No wonder you've had no luck on the OLD, @pinenuts75

He's trying to take it a step further with you, you numpty!!!

Think I’ll stay single

Beenaboutabit · 23/12/2025 19:48

Remember the sites have a vested interest in you coming back again and again. They are not working in your best interest.

I think that’s normal for most people nowadays…

When you do meet people you’re interested in getting to know better do you drop hints / make them aware you’re single?

It’s possible that some men are thinking similar to you, but assume you’re taken.

jiskoot · 23/12/2025 20:01

I met my DH on Match but this was 13 years ago, from my experience back then the paid sites were better but I think it's more of a case of patience, sifting out the rubbish and hoping for the best these days! I had been single for my whole 38 years at that point and was a week away from cancelling my subscription forever when he popped up, sooo don't give up Grin

Id never make the first move with a man. I haven’t found any people in interested in so no I haven’t done that.

I met someone ten years ago on line and then another person 6 years ago. Think things have got progressively worse with online dating. Currently single. Have been single most of my adult life and think it's likely to.remain that way. I thought u might meet a better calibre of people on paid sites, but it seems not. I would focus on enjoying life rather than meeting someone.

ReadyForNewYear · 23/12/2025 20:53

No Been single for years definitely plan to find someone in the new Year

I met my husband through online dating (POF) and we are still together many years later. I tried a few sites and only used the free ones, I hated Tinder so quickly stopped using that. You will need a bit of patience and be warned, you will probably get a lot of interest and many time from the wrong sort.
It took a few months until I found someone I wanted to go on a date with, perseverance is key.

LizzieSaid · 23/12/2025 21:24

@Catwoman8 what was so horrible about Tinder? I am simply curious as I have never used any of them.

No one is really answering your question!
It all depends what you want, but if you want a boyfriend, hinge or bumble I think are best. Pay for a subscription- it will match you with more/ better options, and use the filters so you only see people you might actually go out with.

StarDolphins · 23/12/2025 21:46

I’d like to meet someone ready for when my DD is too cool to want to spend time with me!

I won’t ever do OLD though so it’s natural for me or nothing! WFH doesn’t help!🤔

I am really hoping Ricky Gervais or someone equally as funny moves in next door!

Elixir86 · 23/12/2025 22:05

Id say that you'll find most of the same men on all of them.
You'll get ones who are honest about what they are looking for and ones that aren't. Unfortunately you just have to try and decipher it. You'll make mistakes but that's life.
Try not to take anything to heart and remember that it's a numbers game. Theres a lot of males on them and sadly most will not be a good fit for a number of reasons.
You have to stay hopeful and develop a thick skin and one day you might find the luck comes your way.
There's no magic process to get it to work for you.
Good luck.
