Can we have a happy VD thread?

We've got a Galentines thread which is awesome but can we also have one for those of us with decent men (if only to show that they are out there!)

I'll start:

I had flowers, chocolate, a card and a takeaway coffee handed over at work before 7am this morning (the coffee was particularly appreciated as it was bloody cold this morning - i work outdoors)

Anyone else?

Flowers and breakfast made for me, plus out to lunch tomorrow. Add to that we have the sun out for the first time in over a week, a lovely day all round.

HauntedBungalow · 14/02/2025 11:51

The clap. That's quite cheery.

Squirrelsnut · 14/02/2025 11:52

I'm not sure VD makes anyone very happy.

Needmorelego · 14/02/2025 11:54

You titled made me snigger because it reminded me of the Judy Blume Forever book where the character makes a joke about VD - as in "venereal disease" as they called it back in the 70s 😂
Anyway.....I asked my husband to pick something up from the supermarket yesterday on his way home from work and he bought me a Lego set as a surprise.

DH bedbound and v unwell so it's me doing it for him really. He's got a heart balloon, card, red tulips and I'm doing the (excellent) Morrisons meal deal later, maybe some for lunch and some tonight.

On our first Valentines together years ago I got 2 dozen red roses, 6 cards, 5 e-card and taken out for dinner. He's said he's sorry he can't do anything for me and I've reminded him of this.

Have a lovely day everyone

ETA Maybe get the title edited OP 😂!

RIPVPROG · 14/02/2025 11:57

We haven't exchanged anything yet neither of us even has anything wrapped, building work finished this week so we've been busy working and cleaning. We've got something nice in for dinner and will do it then. Won't be anything fancy though usually just a token and a card. Our wedding anniversary was a couple of weeks ago so we focus more on that.

VD did make me laugh 🦠

wipeywipe · 14/02/2025 11:58

DH left for work whilst I was still in bed. I bought the M&S meal to have tonight. We are off on holiday tmw early so it's pointless to receive flowers.

Were the cards from different people?

No, all from him. The writing was a bit of a giveaway 😂

wipeywipe · 14/02/2025 12:01

Why so many? 😆

Nothitrockbottomyet · 14/02/2025 12:01

Roll on next year and I wonder how many posters on the thread basking in the cards and presents this year will be posting hurt messages saying: he's not got me anything, he's ignored the day, why was he changed when he made such a lovey dovey show last year?
I just hate it when buying into a retail fest designed to boost shop sales becomes the symbol.of what love is about.

Because he's very, very soppy! It was nice though.

Insidethelargeapple · 14/02/2025 12:03

Happy Birthday to me!

KezzaMucklowe · 14/02/2025 12:04

We don't really bother with it because it's not our thing. I'm saving myself for pancake day.
I like to hear about other people's romantic gestures though.

AnonAnonmystery · 14/02/2025 12:04

I’ve had my flowers and card since Tuesday as I’m not seeing dp till tonight so he didn’t want me to wait. We always go to the cinema for a valentines movie so doing that Sunday and Monday he’s booked us a spa break. Tbh he shows he his love everyday.,, even if he’s going to work he will get a mug and put a tea bag in it ready for me when I come down. My exh didn’t do even 5% of this.

Mrsttcno1 · 14/02/2025 12:05

Half happy half sad in our household today😂my husband put my flowers, card & chocolates on the table for me before he came up to bed last night so they were waiting for me this morning.

Unfortunately though, at about 10pm last night my husband suddenly got an awful sickness bug and has been cuddling the toilet all night and is still there now, so I’ve had a lovely little Valentines day trip to the pharmacy to get him some Diarolyte, who says romance is dead eh😂😂

Nothing says love like Diarolyte

😂😂😂 my thoughts exactly. True love ay!

I got a card and a gift i'd picked myself (quite happy about it as it was something I really wanted). I'm up first so make my own coffee. He does 90% of the cooking anyway and buts me flowers every week. So I'm having a good valentines day!

pikkumyy77 · 14/02/2025 12:25

Haha! We are having a washer-dryer installed as ours broke this week. I teased him that after 35 years “here is a new washer dryer” would have to do for romance. But, actually, he does all the laundry. And really right now I am recovering from a painful surgery (resection of a thymoma) and my dh has been hand caring for me like an anxious mother cares for a premature infant. He gets up at all hours to check my temperature or give me meds or water. They wouldn’t let him stay at the hospital but he tried to insist. I said to our daughters, who are cooking us an elaborate valentines dinner, “if I were in hell your father would be sleeping on the floor of hell to look after me.” And its true. Usually he would write me a sonnet or write and perform a song for me. But the absolute kindness he has shown me during this scary, pain filled time is the real valentine.

Oh my god I am so excited about pancake day!

JJZ · 14/02/2025 12:29

We’ve not swapped cards or anything like that, but we are going out for dinner tonight which I’m very much looking forward to!

xRobin · 14/02/2025 12:32

I’ve had a lovely card off DP and we’re going to a Chinese buffet tonight.
I did an enclosed compartment tray of snacks for DP and DD (7) with mini balloons and faux rose petals and gave them both a card.
I’ve also rearranged the living room (harder than I thought when pregnant) so that’s my treat to me 😂

Inextremis · 14/02/2025 12:32

We're in our 60s, have been together for 30ish years - he got me flowers, I got him a card and a silly keyring thing. Currently waiting on a cheese (heart-shaped) delivery, plus very posh chocolates that we'll have after our fillet steak home-cooked dinner tonight. We have wine to go with the steak. I'm going to be making his favourite shortbread this afternoon - using my new heart-shaped cookie cutters. He took the day off work so we could spend it together :) We don't go OTT, but the little things are lovely!
