Can we have a happy VD thread?

We've got a Galentines thread which is awesome but can we also have one for those of us with decent men (if only to show that they are out there!)

I'll start:

I had flowers, chocolate, a card and a takeaway coffee handed over at work before 7am this morning (the coffee was particularly appreciated as it was bloody cold this morning - i work outdoors)

Anyone else?

Did you happen to miss that it was posted after a poster put up a Galantines one cos they were having a hard time on this day? Who is more in need of support and comments?

To previous posters who called me jealous, or said I don’t belong on this thread, you just come across as mean and vacuous. And it’s why Mumsnet has the reputation it has.

I was referring to my post, which you were replying to:

I am the most long-term single person I've ever encountered, and I'm really enjoying this thread.

So the flowers and whatnot you claim I’m boasting about do not exist.

Why not go and try to comfort some people struggling with today, instead of pissing all over this thread?

Because we don't have to?
Because we're in gʻgood joyful happy moods and don't want to bring ourselves down.

I wasn’t addressing that to you, and you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick. I’m pro Happy Valentines thread 😉

I said it was mean, I didn’t say I was bothered in the slightest.

Apologies 😅

Flowers, card and chocolate for me. Nice food when DS is in bed!

didgeriaye · 14/02/2025 18:04

I've enjoyed reading about other people having a nice day, no idea why anybody would have a problem with it. Not reading the thread is a very simple solution for those who find it upsetting or offensive (I believe there's a support thread running for anyone who finds it actively difficult?)

We don't make a fuss for Valentines Day, and never do more than a card. I got him a funny one that acknowledges the fact that we think it's largely nonsense.
He surprised me. I'm always up first, and when I went through to the kitchen I found a (nice, not flippant) card and a box of chocolates next to my coffee mug. I was already shocked, then later her presented me with an antique book.
I don't know whether to be touched or suspicious...*
(*joking; he found the book, knew I'd love it and felt VD was a good 'excuse' to buy it for me - this thought process makes me smile).

He's making dinner now, and will likely run me a bath later...but he does that often anyway. Still appreciated though!

AnonAnonmystery · 14/02/2025 18:16

It’s just nice to read about well balanced men who are thoughtful and kind.

KezzaMucklowe · 14/02/2025 12:04

We don't really bother with it because it's not our thing. I'm saving myself for pancake day.
I like to hear about other people's romantic gestures though.

Saving myself for Pancake Day absolutely wins all VD threads this year, next year and forever!

ExercicenformedeZ · 14/02/2025 18:35

Yes! I have chocolates and flowers. Bought DH a box of chocolates. I'm off to make a steak dinner soon. I love Valentine's.

We don't 'do' Valentines Day by agreement so no disappointment. We do silly things though just for fun if we fancy it. I had some leftover fancy pastry so I made him a heart shaped pie for lunch. We are going out this evening with friends and generally are considerate and nice to each other so don't need a specific day.

You can be considerate and nice to each other all the time and still enjoy Valentine's. It's not either or.

I just went to M&S after a yoga class and bought myself a valentines gift of champagne truffles.About to eat some whilst watching Bump on BBC1 then I'm going to walk the dog.Honestly the most perfect Valentines day.

This sounds just perfect!

Crushed23 · 14/02/2025 18:42

He's not a boyfriend or a husband or anything, but my FWB/situationship partner is making me something using his cool 3D printer. 😎 He's very... good with his hands. 😍

bifurCAT · 14/02/2025 18:43

Happiness for us was the stress-free knowledge that we didn't have to do anything for each other.

So a good Valentines Day :)

billycat321 · 14/02/2025 18:50

I read the title and immediately thought, 'Isn't it called STD these days?' !

NDerbys32 · 14/02/2025 19:06

I'm cooking dinner tonight, as usual, but cheating with the M&S meal deal so no loads of faffing about

She can choose brekky in the morning though, and I'll sort that out. Got some cherry and amaretto jam today and wondering what to make with it.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 14/02/2025 20:27

Commenting so I can continue reading the nice days people have had and thoughtful gestures shared.

Littlebitpsycho · 15/02/2025 06:52

Thank you to all the lovely posters who used this thread in the spirit in which it was clearly intended.

Sometimes it's actually nice to talk about something positive and fun, it takes nothing away from anyone else - mumsnet can be ever so negative but I've really enjoyed hearing others nice stories 🥰🥰

I got lovely flowers and he got our three teenage daughters a single rose each. Had a Chinese after a few wines in the pub but that’s standard friday. We’re off to a gig tonight. Lovely!

BigDahliaFan · 15/02/2025 07:20

Been together 20 years. Got a funny card, flowers, an M&S meal deal and sat and ate it on the sofa together while I bawled my way through the last 3 episodes of Bad Boys.

ThaTrìCaitAgam · 15/02/2025 07:36

My husband and I bought chocolates for each other. And after dinner we went to a Valentines Stand-up Comedy show, had some cocktails and had a really lovely time. 🩷

QuizzlyBears · 15/02/2025 07:43

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 14/02/2025 16:56

I think she's just jelly.. ;)

Agreed, perhaps her time is better used starting a ‘jealous sour grapes Valentine’s Day’ thread where all the haters can go whine about how it’s fake and commercial.

I love this thread though! It’s lovely to read all the things people have done or had to celebrate love in all the forms. My partner is away at the moment for work but made sure a card and flowers/some thoughtful skincare gifts I’ve been coveting arrived in good time. I’m spending this weekend doing galentines with my friends and having a wonderful time already!

Chypre · 15/02/2025 07:45

I’ve had flowers, he cooked dinner tonight, got some steamy action in the bedroom, watched the movie in bed afterwards while finishing off wine and chocolates. Sweet and cozy night in! Yes it doesn’t have to be on a set date, but setting the date and planning ahead is definitely helpful to stay close and aligned when married more than a decade.

mrsdavegrohl0 · 16/02/2025 14:57

My man gave me flowers, a few jokey gifts and a key to his house! (We're not moving in together though!). He also took me out for a meal ♥️

Feeling very lucky!
