Would you take a bullet for your partner?

Was chatting to a friend who said the way she believes you can tell if you’re with the person you should be with/soulmate is if you feel like you would take a bullet for them.
I said the only people I would take a bullet for is my children, not even my parents, siblings etc who I also love.
she said that that means I don’t truly love my partner. What do you think? I don’t think you can ever unconditionally love anyone except your children

Nope! My children and grandchildren, without a second thought! But for anyone else...of course not! And equally I wouldn't want anyone doing that for me either...how absurd.

It would be the ultimate in setting yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.

And the grieving (and now probably wealthy widower) would soon be comforted by a plethora of women just waiting to take your place and enjoy the life that you should be living, probably one of your friends! Think carefully before the heroics, all those years off graft and then someones else is living your life on your hard earned dollar whilst your picture on the mantle gathers dust…

SleepingStandingUp · 13/07/2024 10:30

Nope. DH offered to take one in the toe for me

Yes. For him and DS. No one else

GreigeO · 13/07/2024 11:58

I think this kind of thinking comes across as very immature

Oh God I would probably have a terrible moment of trying to work out which of us would be the best surviving parent by which point we would both be shot.

Haha, me too

It does, yes. It sounds like the sort of stuff a love sick teen would spout.

longdistanceclaraclara · 13/07/2024 12:03

No.

Eleanorshelstrop · 13/07/2024 12:07

I feel that few mothers would. It’s not because I don’t love my partner, but rather because I would absolutely never willingly leave my child.

Yes that's what I think too.

Everlore · 13/07/2024 12:35

Yes, unquestionably. I love my husband unconditionally and would do anything in my power to protect him from harm.

Growlybear83 · 13/07/2024 12:44

Of course I would, and for my daughter. I would have done the same for my mum when she was still alive.

StrawberryWater · 13/07/2024 13:00

My kid absolutely!

Anyone else? Nope.

EmmaPeele · 13/07/2024 13:15

I'd take one for my ds, my nephews, my niece, my sister, my late parents and my late ddog. At one time I would have taken one for dh and he would have taken one for me, we still love each other but I don't think either of us would be pushing each other out of the way to take a bullet for them anymore.

ohthejoys21 · 13/07/2024 13:35

Mine isn't my kid's dad, and their dad is useless.. that would leave them without a parent and even though they're adults now I couldn't do it. However my dh is a kinder, more generous person than me (and most people) so if it wasn't for my kids, I might do.

autienotnaughty · 13/07/2024 14:07

Just the kids. They need me too much.

Dh, the dog and dn come close tho.

merryhouse · 13/07/2024 17:41

I wouldn't take a bullet for anyone.

Not even my children.

No, I realise actually I don't love them more than life itself.

I mean, in a hypothetical situation where somehow (we're talking Netflix here) my death would mean saving half the world, then maybe possibly I would agree that that could be done... but I'm pretty sure I still wouldn't unthinkingly dive in front of someone to ensure that happened.

I don't want to die.

LadofNorth · 13/07/2024 17:46

Absolutely.

I'd catch a grenade for them.
Throw my hand on a blade for them
I'd jump in front of a train for then
You know I'd do anything for them

tuvamoodyson · 13/07/2024 17:52

Yes.

Ilovelurchers · 13/07/2024 19:10

No, I couldn't possibly leave my daughter.

Whatonearth07957 · 13/07/2024 19:41

Whereabouts? I might take a flesh wound!!

Cattery · 13/07/2024 19:42

Only my kids and my niece

BowlOfNoodles · 13/07/2024 19:42

No

Whatonearth07957 · 13/07/2024 19:42

My son, 100% no questions asked
