Imagine A World Without Men

What would that world really look like? I'm toying with a piece I am writing on this subject and was asking friends and family, thought I'd ask you as well.

To be honest I am not thinking so much of a world without men, as we need men and women to carry on the human race. But rather I'm contemplating a city, or a state where women and men were segregated off.

As place where women lived by choice completely separate to men, with no interaction with men at all.

To be upfront, I have a husband and an adult son both of whom I love. I can't really imagine living away from them, or never seeing them.

But if they had never existed, if I had no close male relatives I cared about - then I would actually be ok with it, I think. Or would I?

I'd miss sex a fair bit, to be honest, and physical touch with my husband genreally. If anything happened to my husband though I would not be pursuing any more sexual relationships, this is my second and last marriage, cannot be bothered with the rigmarole of dating ever again.

And women have zero sexual appeal to me, but I suppose there's always vibrators!

But sex aside, what would living in a city filled with women really be like?

There'd be no ongoing threat of rape or of murder by men. There'd be far fewer murders, almost none I suppose.

I'd imagine it would be just generally a lot safer, as women are (whether misogynists and pickmes like to admit it or not) a lot less physically violent than men. They just are. Citation - all of human history.

Would there be more arts? More of what sort of jobs and industry and less of what? What would exist that just can't in our current world - or would it just be weird and unpleasant?

Women can be abusive, and even sometimes to their kids. Would they be more or less so without men around I wonder?

What would be find to compete about without being trained to compete for male attention all our lives?

Would it be nicer? More fun? Or more boring? Men seem to have a bit of drive that women miss, like the drive to change and conquer - or is that just my imagination?

I'm genuinely asking the question and I am interested to know the answers.

Yeah I don't think there should be a whole world without men.

But wouldn't it be good , if there were more female only areas?

That feels a little like gently introducing the concept of purdah into Western society.

Reinforcing an idea that the differences between men and women mean they should increasingly be kept separate could have quite dystopian consequences, particularly if you approach from a liberal democratic perspective.

Mistymist · 22/03/2024 09:30

Some of the worst people I"ve met are women, so no thank you. A world with women only would be a nightmare.

KitKatChunki · 22/03/2024 09:36

Women would restructure as we did in the war. We'd learn the skills we aren't meant to now - plumbing, building and engineering etc - in fact I think that would be the first thing to do as so many of us want to be able to renovate without paying extortionate amounts for some guy to scratch his arse and tell us it's trickier than we thought... The driving would be calmer - half the cars on the road for starters and less rush. I think there would be more craft and arts and groups of women doing things communally with each other for family dinners for example; bit like a weekly street party. I think women would learn more about growing things in their gardens and being sustainable if they had the choice and time too.

Keeprejoining · 22/03/2024 09:39

It would be like the wartime in the UK women would take up the jobs that the men at war had vacated.

There's a bridge in London known as the ladies bridge as 80% of the work force was female

Keeprejoining · 22/03/2024 09:41

There's be an area where you could visit your male children and siblings they'd grown up

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2024 10:04

Assuming this was a choice - woman city - would it be adults only?

Could women with daughters move in?

What if you moved in pregnant and had a boy?

Could you leave the city to visit your son's, father's, get some PIV?
Could women apply to be impregnated with a female zygote?

If it was locked down, so no leaving to go on a date with a bloke then coming back, I think a lot more heterosexual women would find they were bi, they'd form close friendships that turned into more in the total absence of men.

I do think in terms of power it would be fairly similar. Maggie Thatcher wasn't exactly all bunnies and ribbons as a PM. Women on power aren't some magical deity hanging out love and wishes.

Crime would still exist, will always where financial disparity exists, although it may be less violent.

However if men started to die out/ fewer boys were born it would be interesting to see how they would be treated.
Given their sperm giving qualities, would they be at risk of sexual predation or gods in their glass towers bestowing sex and pregnancy to the richest few? Would a boy be protected from kidnap and exploitation by a scared mother, would she become the person with the power? Or would he be a dirty secret, drowned at birth and buried under the apple tree?

I think a lot of it comes down to technology and our ability to procreate without them

I disagree. I think the biggest difference between the sex’s ( after the obvious physical ones) is the complexity of females compared to males. I mean we can understand each other but men often don’t get it or you realise how simple men are a lot of the time.

That books Hags that gets recommended a lot is a good place to start research I think. I thought the idea that woman's bodies change purpose whereas mens don’t ,was well observed. Breasts for example; sexual objects, lactating baby feeders, sagging, no longer useful sexually or to feed. Men’s chests are simply younger to older versions, there’s no change of purpose.
A female only society might place more weight on the usefulness or otherwise of our bodies.

I dunno, a penis changes purpose and significance over a lifetime, and is tightly bound to their sense of worth which changes significantly depending on it's size, it's usefulness, when it stops working etc.

I think it's too easy to declare women are complex beings who are capable of doing everything right whereas men are just under-haired apes who only know how to have one thought at a time. I'd say a man's inability to understand a woman is more to do with conditioning - how women talk, how men listen, how we teach men about emotions etc. than biology

Eaterysarnie · 22/03/2024 10:12

There is the sequel to plague 99 where after the plague a womens only society

In terms of jobs. Yes i would be a binman!
But i imagine with current roads and traffic lorry driver maybe a struggke for some women. But likely there would be less traffic and i would redesign the roads to be more like usa straighter with much less roundabouts. Build houses with driveways and garages.
I would have more and better public transport. As it would be subsidised by gov.

I went to a private girls school. Run by female HT and deputy etc. The male history and english teachers were a bit 'dippy'. All female science teachers. Maths mixed.

The world outside with all the errors and inaccuracy of working world was a shock.
Even at uni the male teachers were not that great...
It would change the well paid jobs - likeoy models wouldnt be paid as much
Not sure about womebs sport it might be popular.

At work though where we had female manager then female etc upwards
It was quite toxic a lot of friends being given promotions, bullying, they wouldnt let the men in the dept get a promotion.

The male managers in diff dept were too competitive and always just took on any work asked even if it doubled workload. And when a group of them did the interviews they picked only young early 20s girls several of which had no IT skills or any skill for the job.

The Liberal dream isn't exactly going well nowadays.

No society is perfect though.

Or Nursing

Can you elaborate?

brunettemic · 22/03/2024 11:01

Similar problems, some in different ways, but it’s certainly not a silver bullet to solve anything. It would open a lot of women’s eyes to things they can’t or won’t see now I guess.

NonmagicMike · 22/03/2024 11:18

Doesn’t a women’s only commune already exist through being a nun if you want? My answer is that the world would fall apart very quickly just as it would with an all man world. We need each other. We need our differences. Living somewhere that is highly segregated will do nothing for your mental or physical health. It’s madness to think that a place populated entirely by women would be some sort of utopia. All humans have the propensity for good and evil regardless of what is in between their legs or the colour of their skin.

Those posting that this is some sort of great idea I am going to assume sit on the left of the political spectrum where everything gets lumped together into a box. If you’re a man you have no ability to be anything other than some pumped up woman beating meat head. If you’re a woman you are lightness, wonder and virtue. Therefore get rid of men and the world is wonderful. There’d be chaos within a week.

Keeprejoining · 22/03/2024 12:05

I'm to the centre and think it would work.

bombastix · 22/03/2024 12:34

Is the traditional line there would be a lot of fat happy women and no crime!

HollyKnight · 22/03/2024 12:39

I think anyone who thinks a world with just women would be paradise, has clearly not spent enough time around women. Women are not one big, homogenous group. They have all sorts of personalities (and personality disorders). I'd rather keep the men and just pick and choose who to have in my life like I do now.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2024 12:51

Keeprejoining · 22/03/2024 12:05

I'm to the centre and think it would work.

Work in what way tho? How would you maintain or grow the population? What if the women wanted children? Would you kill the boy babies, or send them across the city to the Manunne? Do you think it would irradicate crime or just create new opportunities for women?

ShiteRider · 22/03/2024 12:57

I wouldn’t like it. I like the diversity of mixed genders and really hate women only events. The majority of my friends who are in same sex relationships seem to exist on an emotional rollercoaster, nothing is straightforward.

Having spent time in all female company I often need to come home and decompress.

Sashamalia · 22/03/2024 13:06

There are definitely a lot of extremely cruel women.

Men are physically and sexually cruel to women

Women are emotionally and verbally cruel to other women

Basically, humans are a shitshow.

But I think we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over without really looking at how we can all improve

I disagree.

I think it is something that needs to be implemented for safety reasons.

Also no one would be forced to do it. We simply would give people the option..

For example , in europe , there are mixed gender hotels, and there are female only hotels. Female only hotels are available currently on a far lesser scale. But there re some.

The woman is not forced to stay in either hotel. Its about giving her more options of or her safety. she has the option to stay where she wants.

We need to give women more options for safety.

QuestionForHelp · 22/03/2024 13:36

@cuckyplunt
Well, a subset of dominant women would step up to fill the arsehole roles I suspect.
In order to be oppressed, one needs an oppresso

I agree with @cuckyplunt . It would be nice for a while, then women who realised they could get more power/money/control through typical male behaviours and had the inclincation or attributes to do that (physical power, bullying, dominant or sociopathic traits) would do just that.

Life would be just the same in a few decades I reckon.

BeaRF75 · 22/03/2024 13:44

A world without men means a female-only world.. no thanks! I hate all female groups, and I worked once in an all-female workplace... never again.
Sweeping generalisation, but I prefer conversation with men and they are generally much less sentimental than women, so I'd definitely want to keep them!

Superlambaanana · 22/03/2024 13:58

I can't believe no one else has mentioned it yet, so I'm just gonna chuck in this grenade ... are transwomen allowed in this women only world? And what impact would it have if they were?

Sashamalia · 22/03/2024 14:37

There were written accounts passed down tjr said that before this current era, women were actually in charge for a long time.

In the present era , men are in power. For the last couple of centuries men have had the power and woken have been kept down.

However there are many books that state that before this time, women ruled the world for a long time.

And that when they did, the women weren't kind leaders. They were cruel.

I read one book, it was full of stories passed down from old times.

It had an account from a woman who lived at the time. This was written down and passed down from generation to generation.

She said that when she lived, women had all the power. However it was only some women.

She said that there was a ruling class of high priestesses. They were the top class. They were all women.

Then there was a middle class . This was all women. They had to do more work. And this class were the only class of women to have babies. As the priestesses didn't want to be children.

The lowest class were the men. These men were used like slaves. And they were also sexually abused.

She said that even though the men were physically stronger, the women were more powerful as they were able to use their emotional powers to keep the men down

She said that the men were abused very badly by the women.

Then she said eventually there was an uprising by the men.

And that is why men then kept women down for the next long time as they were afraid of women getting powerful again.

There are some interesting accounts of ancient history out there.

Begsthequestion · 22/03/2024 16:17

I think I'd be basically fine with it. As long as there are hot butches around still 😁I do think it would be more peaceful in general as well.
