Imagine A World Without Men

What would that world really look like? I'm toying with a piece I am writing on this subject and was asking friends and family, thought I'd ask you as well.

To be honest I am not thinking so much of a world without men, as we need men and women to carry on the human race. But rather I'm contemplating a city, or a state where women and men were segregated off.

As place where women lived by choice completely separate to men, with no interaction with men at all.

To be upfront, I have a husband and an adult son both of whom I love. I can't really imagine living away from them, or never seeing them.

But if they had never existed, if I had no close male relatives I cared about - then I would actually be ok with it, I think. Or would I?

I'd miss sex a fair bit, to be honest, and physical touch with my husband genreally. If anything happened to my husband though I would not be pursuing any more sexual relationships, this is my second and last marriage, cannot be bothered with the rigmarole of dating ever again.

And women have zero sexual appeal to me, but I suppose there's always vibrators!

But sex aside, what would living in a city filled with women really be like?

There'd be no ongoing threat of rape or of murder by men. There'd be far fewer murders, almost none I suppose.

I'd imagine it would be just generally a lot safer, as women are (whether misogynists and pickmes like to admit it or not) a lot less physically violent than men. They just are. Citation - all of human history.

Would there be more arts? More of what sort of jobs and industry and less of what? What would exist that just can't in our current world - or would it just be weird and unpleasant?

Women can be abusive, and even sometimes to their kids. Would they be more or less so without men around I wonder?

What would be find to compete about without being trained to compete for male attention all our lives?

Would it be nicer? More fun? Or more boring? Men seem to have a bit of drive that women miss, like the drive to change and conquer - or is that just my imagination?

I'm genuinely asking the question and I am interested to know the answers.

There were written accounts passed down tjr said that before this current era, women were actually in charge for a long time.

In the present era , men are in power. For the last couple of centuries men have had the power and woken have been kept down.

However there are many books that state that before this time, women ruled the world for a long time.

And that when they did, the women weren't kind leaders. They were cruel.

I read one book, it was full of stories passed down from old times.

It had an account from a woman who lived at the time. This was written down and passed down from generation to generation.

She said that when she lived, women had all the power. However it was only some women.

She said that there was a ruling class of high priestesses. They were the top class. They were all women.

Then there was a middle class . This was all women. They had to do more work. And this class were the only class of women to have babies. As the priestesses didn't want to be children.

The lowest class were the men. These men were used like slaves. And they were also sexually abused.

She said that even though the men were physically stronger, the women were more powerful as they were able to use their emotional powers to keep the men down

She said that the men were abused very badly by the women.

Then she said eventually there was an uprising by the men.

And that is why men then kept women down for the next long time as they were afraid of women getting powerful again.

There are some interesting accounts of ancient history out there.

Can you link to any of this? Am curious

Begsthequestion · 22/03/2024 16:25

Also, check out the book Herland, if you haven't already. It's pretty old, from 1915, and basically explores this premise.

Written by feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman, who wrote The Yellow Wallpaper (an early story about how patriarchy gaslights women).

The audio book is on YouTube as well.

Yeah I'll have a look for the book online later! I read it a while ago. And can't remember the name of the book.

It was really interesting.
I remember the woman said she lived in a time where women had all the power.

What was interesting was in that time, the women designed the social classes

. So the they had a ruling higher class of women. Then they had a middle class of women.

The middle class of women were also abused by the higher class of women. And then the lowest class of all were men.

And I think the middle class of women could never become the upper class.

It just goes to show, that every human being (man or woman) when they are in power, will abuse the power and will try to subjugate other human beings into lower classes.

Human beings likpower.r.

I wonder If we will ever develop to an age where no one wants power over the other and we see everyone as worth the same

I've voted no because how much I like someone is based on their personality, not their sex. Also I love my husband and son very much, not to mention my brother, dad and male friends/neighbours.

Now if I could ship all the total arses off somewhere else, irrespective of their sex then I'm in 😁

Unless you separated the systems completely you would still be reliant on men to do the jobs (that has been pointed out) that women generally don't want to do.
You would get the trades but would you get the sewage workers etc. the jobs that are under valued by society and done by (mainly) men.

Women can do those jobs. Some do already.

I would actually like to learn a trade, especially if I was working with women. Not had great experiences being taken seriously by tradesmen unfortunately.

Also as witnessed by the stories on here about people mistreated by their mothers, sisters etc women are very capable of being very nasty. Also stories of female bosses. I think it would remove some of the risks and unpleasantness but introduce others.

I don't think it would introduce others! Women can be just as nasty as men can, and men can be nasty in ALL the ways women can. Violence would be different, though, for a few reasons:
~ We'd be more evenly matched, so it'd be more like violence between men (but with weaker punches, so maybe fewer injuries);
~ Much male violence is driven by machismo. If the female society didn't raise its children to prize supremacy that much, there may well be less violence;
~ Male violence against women is driven by misogyny and that wouldn't exist.

In a big survey fairly recently, women were asked what they'd do if men were removed for one day. To the researchers' surprise (they must have been men), the overwhelming reply was "walk around - or go running - after dark".

I went to a girls' grammar and worked in many all-female teams. I'd say it's better. Imperfect but better.

Seriously?! 😂 I think you may have been reading a fiction book perhaps?! 🤔

"For the last couple of centuries men have had the power"

Men have been in power for much longer than that. There are a few niche societies where women are afforded certain novel rights but the history of humanity has been male dominated.

Citation; Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari (a serious and respected, non-fiction writer).

No it wasn't a fiction book.

A lot of books say that women had the power in ancient civilizations. From accounts that have been passed down.

Why would women having power be so unbelievable to you, that you immediately assume its fiction?

Passed down by whom?

TheCadoganArms · 22/03/2024 18:38

Historically speaking, power was having control of wealth, politics, the ideological narrative and the ability to repress. In order to control the above you needed the ability to threaten or inflict violence, something men have been pretty good at.

Keeprejoining · 22/03/2024 18:43

I think in a society without men, women would be able to walk alone at night wherever they wanted. Women could walk in dark woods and streets without wondering whether if they will be attacked. Women could wear whatever they wanted

exLtEveDallas · 22/03/2024 18:48

I reckon I could happily live in a woman only town or village. Like a commune but not having to live together! I've got no issue with men, until fairly recently I had more male than female friends, but I think there would be much more freedom, peace and cleanliness (!) in all areas of my life if I lived in a female only area.

Superlambaanana · 22/03/2024 21:30

@Sashamalia your grasp of time as well as historical fact seems to be sketchy at best. I challenge you to actually refer to something specific - a non-fiction book or article or even just a geographical location or country where this female dominated society existed.

You swing between referring to 'this current era', 'old times', 'the next long time' and 'ancient history' and then you state women ruled the world until 'the last couple of centuries'

When did this female dominated society exist exactly? Two hundred years ago or in ancient history? (They are not the same!)

Superlambaanana · 22/03/2024 21:34

There's a bridge in London known as the ladies bridge as 80% of the work force was female

Isn't that Waterloo Bridge? Built mainly by a female workforce during the war

Northernsouloldies · 23/03/2024 02:58

Could it end in an animal farm type scenario...where some women are more equal than others?.

IloveAslan · 23/03/2024 06:00

Sounds very boring to me, and there are a lot of women I would rather give a wide berth to, probably more I can think of than men.
