Is watching porn at work really a common thing?

My husband watches porn and I'm fine with it.
However, he told me that he also sometimes watches it in the bathroom at work and it made me wonder if it was symptomatic of something more serious?

Is it really a thing that people commonly? I'd think the environment itself wouldn't put someone in the mood and the fear of getting caught would turn them off but clearly I'm wrong.

We barely have sex so I wonder if it's because he lost attraction to me. I'm pregnant with our second child, so admittedly don't look like I did before.

I was watching a movie and the opening scene was a man watching porn at work and getting caught by his colleague, his colleague pities him and tells him he must be miserable in his marriage and stupid as it is it made me start to question things too

Thank you

In real life the hospital in Grey's Anatomy wouldn't have anyone left in it - the entire workforce would be sacked! 😂

Haha yep totally agree! How the Grey’s Anatomy lot ever had time to actually treat patients is beyond me. They were far too busy having inappropriate sex in inappropriate settings 😂

Someone got caught in my office and was sacked soo yeah it’s risky, and pretty grim to be doing it there. Clearly doing it for the thrills

harerunner · 18/01/2024 13:26

@PurpleBrain

And no one is going to look over the top of the cubicle as they will be in trouble too . Plus is going to be their word against yours . The complainant could be left with egg on their face .

Indeed... it's hardly an easy thing to evidence unless someone is being blatant about it !

20 years ago I move roles and my replacement was sacked 3 days later for watching porn in the open plan office.
This has been going on for as long as offices have had the Internet.

Yep. 20 years ago someone pretty senior on my office was sacked for accessing dodgy Eastern European chat rooms at work

LaughingAtClowns · 18/01/2024 13:34

It's really revolting that he wanks himself off at work. (What job does he do??) He'll get the sack, and rightfully so, if he's caught. I feel sick just thinking about it.

SwordToFlamethrower · 18/01/2024 13:38

He's not a teacher or otherwise working with kids or vulnerable people is he?

I'd be very tempted to anonymously report his depraved activities to his hr department

To the PPs who really can't figure out how a man might get caught watching porn in the work toilets, or why it might be a sackable offence 🤔 I received a written disciplinary in one of my first jobs for accessing pro-anorexia material at work. Initially I used my work computer, it was picked up by IT and I had to have a (fairly supportive) meeting with management about inappropriate use of work resources and work time, as well as about my mental health. Then I thought I'd be smart and access it on my phone during my lunch breaks and in the loo but it was still picked up as I used the work WiFi, and because it was the second time it got written up on my record, as per the company's IT policy.
Most jobs make it clear when you start that they'll be monitoring employees' Internet usage.

Back in the 80s I had a job installing and supporting software in investment banks in the City. I noticed that the doors in the toilet stalls of one bank were speckled with blu-tac. When I asked about this, I was told that 'some of the guys' liked to stick pictures up (page 3 was cited) while having a wank. I was frankly astonished by this as well as the fact that it was apparently tolerated by management. Internet enabled phones obviously facilitate this behavior but evidently aren't essential.

Lots of things were acceptable in the 80s that most people are horrified at now!

harerunner · 18/01/2024 16:19

But equally, the hardcore porn - even the "vanilla" variety - that's so freely available within seconds on our phones was illegal back then!

He came back from work and he's done it again today. He said it so nonchalantly just like a matter of fact, he just said this time he didn't finish.

He doesn't care

He sounds proud of what he's, stupidly, doing. And yes - he's also baiting you. I cannot see how that can end well for his employment if/when he's caught.

It doesn't sound as though there's anything to save as far as this relationship is concerned - I would be, discreetly, planning my way out. You deserve better than this, OP. 🌹

Watching porn / wanking at work?
lol I guess it might be normal if you're a common chav working in some low grade job.

SideshowAuntSallyx · 18/01/2024 21:43

I can't get my head around wanking in the work loos. Just seems really grim and inappropriate. They're hardly private.

EBearhug · 18/01/2024 23:02

I guess it depends on the office and configuration of toilets, but even if it is more private, it's still grim.

Channellingsophistication · 18/01/2024 23:18

Not normal, really gross in fact and he’ll be found out soon enough….

Years ago when I worked in HR a lad had been looking at porn and was promptly fired.

I think you need to rethink your future.

windysocks · 18/01/2024 23:33

Sounds like a porn addled creep with escalating deviant behaviour- sorry this is very far away from normal

TheAverageJoanne · 18/01/2024 23:36

I'm sure wanking isn't in his job description.

You don’t think there are middle class perverts? lol. I think office workers have far more opportunity for this sort of behaviour than manual workers for example but you do you Mrs Bucket.

Well the guy I knew worked in high end security software development, so no, not necessarily.

StinkyWizzleteets · 19/01/2024 08:58

Seems it is a common occurrence and from that it can be considered as a normal behaviour. Being normal doesn’t make it morally or ethically correct. Maybe we should be asking why watching porn at work has become normalised when people ought to be actually working.

DatingDinosaur · 19/01/2024 17:29

Sackable offence in our place. Let's hope your hubby's not using work's wifi!

Sparklypen · 19/01/2024 17:39

I know of someone who was sacked for this in the late 90s , they were using the work computer tho.

I've worked in IT now for 20+ years. You'd, maybe, be surprised how often people STILL do this.

Just last year I had to coordinate a call to the police because of what we'd found being accessed with a work laptop.

Tootops · 19/01/2024 18:35

This why I never go into the “All Gender” toilet at work. How Grim.
