Can you identify this mystery sock?

Just found under our bed. Not mine, looks too small to be his. I have done the laundry enough times to know his sock collection inside out and this is a rogue one. Thick sock, mens or womens? Anyone recognise it? Feeling very freaked out.

Theoretically, if I was having a relationship with someone I shouldn’t be and was sneaking round for some quick fun I’d not be wearing bird table socks.

I think this could be fake - a very good story to get lots of replies on mumsnet. I often wonder about posts like this 😂 maybe I'm wrong!

@Saschka so we haven't actually been up in the loft properly because there is no flooring down BUT there are mystery boxes that we can see in a corner! And in 2 of the rooms shallow cupboards had been boarded up... I prob should have name changed for this... we never opened the cupboards because so much was going wrong with the house that we were sure the wee guy from Saw was behind them 😂

It's a pretty unisex sock. Could belong to a woman, could be a man. It doesn't scream affair.

I would casually ask MIL. Socks get everywhere and it looks like an older person's sock

If I found that sock under my bed I wouldn't think affair. I once found a bride of dracula style Halloween veil under my chest of drawers after I'd lived there for 3 years, things do just turn up. If you have another reason to believe affair then I would focus more on that rather than the sock

Sorry but I'd be inclined to feel if it was another woman she may be purposely leaving things behind in hope of this coming to light. A sock is a very odd thing to forget, you know whether you have one sock on or two

An unhappy theory would be that maybe OP came back early or unexpectedly and they had to quickly get dressed with the OW not finding one sock and then rather had to leave quickly than search for a missing sock.

but if you left your sock - would you not say to affair partner - FIND THE SOCK

(and then the bed would be rumpled/smell of sex - unless it was all stood up, but then you'd leave your socks on!)

I’d say it’s definitely a women’s sock as for some reason manufacturers don’t seem to think we need long socks.

For your own peace of mind you should try and rule her out before considering whether you confront your dh. You can just casually ask her when your dh is not around.

Hi @JIMMI85 , I'm at a low point as it is and if I went into it it would be 1) very outing and 2) sound like Dickens character giving an X Factor sob story. But good point, that's not apparent from a lonely sock posted on the internet

I will ask him when he gets home. I've been around these parts long enough to know about getting your ducks in a row and whatnot but I have no ducks to speak of, and it'll be week's before I see MIL anyway

He will just say he doesn't know how the sock got there.

I'd say it's a shrunken bloke's sock that escaped from somewhere. Does it smell clean?

If anything had happened, it would have had to be really opportunistic

And would have had to involve someone washing that sock - it's worn but clean, I think? - and then losing track of it so that it ended up under the bed.

12 months after I moved into this house, my dog walked into the room carrying a child's dummy. I know...

a) it was not lying about when I moved in
b) it did not move in with me
c) there had been no children (or even adults with children at home) in the house since I moved in

yet, there the dummy was.

Sometimes odd things happen. By all means, if you have other reasons to suspect cheating then focus on them and listen to your gut. But the sock thing alone would not cause me any concern.

I can confirm that I have sniffed the sock - please do all enjoy that mental image! It smells clean and freshly washed, but maybe OW - if she exists - has very clean feet!
