Can you identify this mystery sock?

Just found under our bed. Not mine, looks too small to be his. I have done the laundry enough times to know his sock collection inside out and this is a rogue one. Thick sock, mens or womens? Anyone recognise it? Feeling very freaked out.

Can you identify this mystery sock?

Even if this turns out to have a reasonable explanation - this is the cost of forgiving a cheater - constantly hyper vigilant and preoccupied - exhausting and unsustainable - is this what happened?

wited · 08/11/2023 11:01

Ask him.

scribbles82 · 08/11/2023 11:01

Hang on! You've also found an earring??!!! This is an important piece of context OP!!

henrysugar12 · 08/11/2023 11:05

I had socks like that in the 90's!
It could be from previous owners... we thought our house was completely empty when we moved in, but occasionally odd things turned up that belonged to the previous owners. We found an old metal tiger toy behind a radiator about 15 years after we moved in! That room had been decorated twice in that time too.

Was t there a thread ages ago about a woman finding a painting of a nude woman under her bed and neither she or her husband had ever seen the pictures before?

It's hardly a sock you'd wear to have rampant affair sex in

Maybe not at the start, but once an affair has been going on for some time?

Also, what about unplanned and opportunistic times where the woman might be dressed casually for the day?

ifimay · 08/11/2023 11:29

If anything had happened, it would have had to be really opportunistic

Sorry, the earring back thing wasn't a drip feed - only just remembered it.

Why you say that? Is it because of the length of time you were out of the house?

PepeLePugh · 08/11/2023 11:39

I would first rule out the MIL and casually ask her if it's her sock when your DH is not around. Don't make it out to be a big deal in front of her.

Humanswarm · 08/11/2023 11:44

What your initial thought, truly OP? Because, you've asked, but the fact that is, not a single soul on here can identify that sock. And all ideas you have responded to with, nope, not likely.
This isn't about a sock. I find random shit in my house all the time, but I feel no need to ask on a public forum of anyone knows whose it is...so, what's your gut telling you? Why are you so suspicious? This isn't healthy for a couple who haven't lived together for long...

I'm pretty sure the OW don't all walk around dressed as sex kittens each and every day. Perhaps she popped in for 'coffee' on the way to the supermarket?
OP says it would have to be opportunistic. So may also account for the sock being left, if she had to leave in a hurry.

Could also have been left on purpose. Especially given the earring back aswell. I mean a bit unfortunate to lose 2 things in OP's house when the opportunity to even be in there is very small.

TheOwlChronicles · 08/11/2023 12:03

Why can't you answer a simple question?

Why can't you answer a simple question?

I agree that would be helpful!

Two things though. One, the examples might be outing. Two, OP's just found the sock so she's only just processing it really. There might have been suspicious behaviour before now but she's in panic mode at the moment so might not be able to articulate.

ifimay · 08/11/2023 12:10

Hello, yes I'm not refusing to answer questions, and I'm not being hesitant for fun. I'm just terrified.

I'm very curious about what socks people would wear for an illicit bout of sex?!

Do you think that OW only wear lingerie with sheer stockings and heels?!

ifimay · 08/11/2023 12:12

Yes, would have been very rushed as he has barely been home alone there - only a few times and only during the day.

If you're suspecting another woman then this probably means someone who lives fairly close.

burnoutbabe · 08/11/2023 12:15

it could be his "fun times" sock, one he has had for years for "private times", maybe nicked from a milfy neighbour when he was young.

Yes, Rachel!

It's not the sort of sock a woman would wear on an assignation with a married man!

This!!

And why would she leave without one sock! She'd surely notice!!

On purpose of course.

JIMMI85 · 08/11/2023 12:33

It looks like a mans sock to me, the size of the heel to the tip looks too big to be a woman's, although I appreciate woman can have big feet too!

This might sound a bit 'gross' - but, have you smelt it? If its a recent addition to the bedroom then it should be relatively clean and you might be able to determine whether its your partners by the smell of the detergent used?

This reminded me when one of my exes found a thong in my gym bag. She went mental and turned out I had picked it up at my mums when I got changed before the gym and it got picked up accidentally when I transferred my work clothes to my bag where she had clean washing on the bed. So, it could be a similar innocent scenario.

However, you say you are 'terrified' which implies you have trust issues or have suspected previously that he isn't trustworthy.....

I would be more concerned about the rogue earing but you seem to be focusing more on a sock which I find a little odd if I'm being honest.

Jewelspun · 08/11/2023 12:36

Put the sock in his sock drawer.

Watch die his reaction.
