My oh got annoyed about something small today and as they went out because they were saying stuff under breath I looked on camera after
And heard

'This whole house it's all backhanders'

What does anyone think my oh was getting at as obvious wasn't said to my face but said under breath when annoyed?

Barrowgirl · 17/10/2023 17:33

Are you sure you heard him correctly?

Barrowgirl · 17/10/2023 17:34

In any event - will be related to whatever he got annoyed about, which because you don’t detail - we can’t guess

leemajor · 17/10/2023 17:37

It wasn't related to what they were annoyed about but our dog had done a poo accident and it stank and oh on her way to work and I had just cleaned up but hadn't closed bag so they were funny about the smell but so comment wasn't that context

Who is "they"? Or are you trying to obscure the sex of your partner, in which case you fucked up in your last post 😂but I'm trying to ascertain if your partner was talking to herself or someone else.

Also why are you recording her on camera and does she know about it?

Does she know the meaning of the phrase "backhander"? (Do you?) Are you sure that's what she said?

Seaoftroubles · 17/10/2023 17:45

I'm guessing the poster is male?
The comment makes no sense unless there is further context.

nancypowers1983 · 17/10/2023 17:46

@EvenMoreFuriousVexation I presumed it's a ring doorbell kind of camera. Mine would pick that up.
OP it sounds like maybe you've misheard but all you can really do is speak with her and find out if she's ok and go from there.

nancypowers1983 · 17/10/2023 17:47

Could it have been 'cackhanded' rather than 'backhanders'? Might make more sense with the open bag of poo that way.

That's what I'm asking?
What is the meaning in way I wrote it.
I'm not recording them at all but camera picks up everything and wouldn't normally look at what we doing but they were so grumpy and miserable on leaving I wanted to hear exactly what was said as was said under breath.

very odd to mutter something under your breath and for it not to be linked to what you’d seconds ago been annoyed about

Barrowgirl · 17/10/2023 17:52

Why do you have cameras in your house?

why don’t you ask your partner

unless of course - they don’t know about the camera

in which case, you are a psychopath

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 17/10/2023 17:52

A backhander usually refers to something being given as a bribe or payment for a favour.

For example you might give a backhander (cash or goods) to a council member who helped your company win the contract for some works to be done.

Does that make any sense in your house? Or is a PP's suggestion of "cackhanded" (something being done badly or clumsily) more likely?

category12 · 17/10/2023 17:53

Think you must be mishearing it. Either that or she doesn't know what backhanders are.

Sorry Mumsnetter it meant to say!
People come on these forums for advice not to be insulted.

She is out now at work but really grumpy earlier and whole thing made me feel uncomfortable for whatever reason. Something just feels off like they were saying something about me as a person. I don't know. Just paranoid today. Low day.

Barrowgirl · 17/10/2023 18:09

I don’t support anyone just because they’re a “mum” 😂

VeridicalVagabond · 17/10/2023 18:10

Just ask her when she gets home, literally no one on here is going to be able to tell you what she meant because (presumably) none of us are her.

Barrowgirl · 17/10/2023 18:10

And having an open bag of dog shite in the house is pretty… foul

Only thing is they earn more than me so whether they think I am not contributing enough financially not sure.
Just felt weird thing to say.

AtomicBlondeRose · 17/10/2023 18:11

I think someone muttering something annoyed under their breath because the house smelt of shit is pretty par for the course. I’d be muttering myself if there were open bags of poo lying around. It doesn’t mean it’s a personal insult, but some things piss some people off and saying it quietly to themselves is perfectly acceptable.

WhateverMate · 17/10/2023 18:12

Barrowgirl · 17/10/2023 18:06

Why don’t you just ask her?

Why would any sane person do that when they can creep over the camera footage, and then start a thread on the very public Mumsnet?
